What is mew

Yep, it's something like an evolved-unique-ancient cat

If its the ancestor pokemon it would be strange to be a cat because in the bible it has been proven to be zero references to cats. Im not sure how much that matters in japan but.

I already mention Eqyptions having the cat goddess Bast.

It was probably originaly based of a cat, because they are cute, etc etc, and Mew was supposed to be VERY popular. Well, storywise, this is my view.

In the beginning, there was nothing. Suddenly, a shining white light aroze from the nothingness, and an Egg was created. From the egg grew Arceus, God of all things. The Great Creator created time and space, so things could be done (?!?). In the process, He made two creatures: Dialga and Palkia.
But Arceus was lonely. So he made another creature to play with. He called it Mew. But Mew was very repetitive. So He used Mew to make many more friends. He called them Pokemon.

I hope you liked my Bible parody. I did not write the Bible, respective publishers, etc etc.

Look at this sprite:

MEW IS A CAT FETUS THING. DEAL WITH IT.

Mew is based on an infant in the mother's womb. Do you notice the umbilical cord of a baby, the mew's tail is one. In emerald or crystal, mew is curled up in the baby manner. Proof: why not check out on pokemon physiology on bulbapedia or wikipedia? They describe all.

Mew is said to have the DNA of every single Pokémon. It also vaguely resembles a fetus, and is often depicted in a pink orb similar to a womb.

From Bulbapedia

I had already made those comments without Bulbapedia but not many paid much attention. Its also very playful like a baby and everyone loves it. Instead of "ancestor" it should be "birth" pokemon.

Please Mew was not THE first

Mew isn't the first pokemon to exist. The first was Arceus. Mew was just the majority population of pokemon in the anicent times. Then it dwindled in population with time. It just contains the DNA of all pokemon and isn't truly indescribable. Just read the previous posts.

That's what is thought, but not known, Mew is mysterious while Arceus is known about. The pokedex isn't all knowing, and we really son't know if Mew or Arceus was first, it's just a thory that Arceus was first.

i think magikarp came first and gave birth to arcues and mew at the same time :p

Somewhere I read that Mew was meant to be an embryo. o3o
I have no idea where I read that, but I know thats what it said. -shrug-

The closest animal Mew looks like would be a mouse..

Please coolcatkim22, Arceus is the first pokemon to exist. Don't believe me, go to bulbapedia and search for the history of pokemon. Arceus was borned even before the universe existed. And please..., why the hell would anyone think that magikarp is the first pokemon? Please, wanna know more about pokemon and its history, read bulbapedia. Mew isn't the first, i'm telling you ask the creators of pokemon they will tell you the first is arceus. The story goes before the universe existed, a egg came from nowhere and hatched into arceus....

Moral of this story: Get the information right before typing!

The pokedex is not reliable, it only gives a bit of the information. More information is given on the internet... For instance, i can find the behaviour of a pokemon whereas the pokedex sometimes doesn't give me that information.

Where does it say that Arceus created the universe and isn't in a myth story or in mythology.
