Here I did a quick work with Burgh having the type advantage in castelia and went full exp on Arnold the Pignite, so at least 1 of my Pokemon could survive Elesa's emolgas, and it worked, being level 35 when I got to the her, Against the first emolga, I setup flame charge 4 times, thanks to not OHKOing the emolga and Elesa's heals, then I outsped the second emolga, and 1 heat crash did the job, unfortunately static entered the scene here, but fortunately no Full para's against Zebstrika, and 4 hits of arm thrust did the job (in 2 turns).
Spoiler:
Current team
Arnold lvl 36
Moves: Assurance, Heat Crash, Flame Charge, Arm Thrust
Keanu lvl 26
Moves: Rock Throw, Low Kick, Wake-Up Slap, Chip Away
Additional Rules: - No items on important battles (rival, leaders, etc.)

3. Major team overhaul, more Hawlucha carry and Confusion panic!
I kept going, and Totem Alolan Marowak was my next challenge. When it called for help a Salazzle, the combination of both was too strong for my team, and I... didn't lose, because I had Hawlucha, who beat both opponents using Rock Tomb and then Wing Attack after Rock Tomb got Disabled.
After this fight, Route 8 was accessible, and there I caught a Stufful, which I immediately added to my team, replacing Machop. Adamant nature is amazing for her as well. And here I also found a Water Stone, so as soon as Poliwag evolves into Poliwhirl, I'll evolve it into Poliwrath! Totem Lurantis was very similar to the Marowak fight. I did some damage, but ally Comfey healed him, and Solar Blade in Sunny condition was too strong for my team, except for..., you guessed it, Hawlucha! In the end Mankey delevered the final blow as I did not want to make Hawlucha overleveled... By the way, before all this, an Ace Trainer in Route 8 had a Fearow that destroyed my whole team, and again, only Hawlucha remained and thanks to Rock Tomb beat it. This is starting to get silly now!
And with this trial complete, I caught Passimian, and she was Adamant, so amazing nature again!, also some of my Pokémon evolved, so now I have Hariyama and Poliwrath. I decided to remove Mankey from the team to add Passimian, but Mankey may come back later, we'll see...
Next important fight before the Kahuna was Plumeria, and her Golbat was a pain, as I hit myself with confusion 5/6 turns, and the turn I didn't hit myself, Rock Tomb missed! Even Hawlucha went down, as Wing Attack did a lot of damage to my team, and I lost 4 Pokémon. Finally Passimian with Rock Tomb beat the bat and then the Salandit was easy with Bulldoze.
And finally, Kahuna Olivia was easy, as I have a typing advantage over her Pokémon. Stufful dealt with Anorith with Rock Tomb and almost beat Lileep as well. Crabrawler finished the fossil plant off and also beat the Lycanroc with the combination of Power-Up Punch and Brick Break, as her Bites did very little damage. Nice to beat an important fight without relying on Hawlucha for once!
And that's it! 2/4 islands done, but a lot more to do still! Time to go to Hano Grand Resort.
Spoiler: Current team
@ Leftovers. Lv. 26 (M). Thick Fat.
Adamant Nature. Fire Punch, Knock Off, Fake Out, Force Palm.
I went back to route 4 after defeating team plasma in the cold storage, and caught myself a female Scraggy, named Sandra, then went on to the gym challenge, and got myself the 5th badge.
My current team:
Spoiler:
Arnold lvl 37
Moves: Heat Crash, Arm Thrust, Assurance, Flame Charge
Keanu lvl 35
Moves: Rock Slide, Wake-Up Slap, Bulk Up, Chip Away
Additional Rules: - No items on important battles (rival, leaders, etc.)
- Set mode for important battles.
4. If a Masquerain sweeps my team...
I kept going, and soon after the previous update, Stufful evolved into Bewear! So the team is now fully evolved except for Crabrawler. Nihilego at Aether Foundation was quite easy, 2 Bulldoze from Passimian and done, despite the Defense boost.
But now we get to Ula'ula Island, and things begin to get tricky for my team, as I am beginning to see game is quite hostile to Fighting-types! Hau was very hard in Malie City. Dartrix was already tough, as it beat my Crabrawler and with a crit almost beat Passimian as well. But the problem was the Alolan Raichu, so fast, and with Psychic. Thankfully, Hariyama survived with 10 HP, and using Fake Out + Knock Off, beat it. Bewear and Poliwrath easily dealt with the rest of his team (Noibat, Tauros and Vaporeon).
It was time to make some changes, and I removed Hariyama from the team to add a Pangoro I caught when I wild Pancham called it for help. It should help againt Psychic-types, I hope, as long as they don't have Fairy-type moves, something that I know well after Pokémon X... But while Psychic is now better covered, Flying is not...
Well, next important fight was Totem Togedemaru (I thought it was going to be a Vikavolt, but I misremembered, I guess Vikavolt was in Sun/Moon). It was easy, it was my luckiest fight so far, as he missed with Bounce 4 times, so Bewear meanwhile dealt with Skarmory and Dedenne, and finally Pangoro easily finished the fight.
And the last important fight I did was Guzma. Hawlucha almost beat the Golisopod, as he missed Razor Shell, but 2 Wing Attacks triggered its ability, and then Masquerain came. It was faster than my whole team, and with Air Slash, it destroyed everyone in one hit, except for Poliwrath, who survived with 3 HP but flinched, of course... So second loss. Next try, I gave a Sitrus Berry to Hawlucha. The idea was to trigger Unburden versus the Golisopod, and then be faster than Masquerain. But it didn't work, as Golisopod (again) missed Razor Shell, and then Masquerain swept my team again, with Poliwrath flinching (again). But then in the third try the strategy worked, Razor Shell triggered Unburden, and Hawlucha even beat the Golisopod with a critical hit. Now Hawlucha was faster than Masquerain, so with Rock Tomb it almost beat it, and made it slower also, making Passimian's own Rock Tomb finish the fight.
If a Masquerain, a terrible Pokémon, can sweep my team, I am going to struggle with this challenge. But it is what it is! Team is slow and Special attacks do a lot. Maybe I should have kept Mankey, as Primeape at least is fast...
After heading out of Turffield I had to battle team yell, then Hop
VS Hop
So this was easy enough. Quagsire hit mud shot, took a weak double kick then KOd Wooloo with a 2nd Mud shot. Mudbray dodged a screech, set iron defense, lowered Thwackey's defence twice and speed twice, barely missed the KO so Hop healed.
Got it below half before hop finally had the brains to y'know, use razor leaf, the super effective move, after screeching me back to normal Def so down goes Mudbray but at -2 def Swinub can take it out with ice shard.
2 expert belt boosted Ice Shards took out Corvisquire taking a peck in the process.
After making it to Hulbury I did the gym no sweat
VS Nessa
Now normally water would be a terrible match for ground....except Quagsire exists. It took a horn attack from goldeen and hit mud shot, a 2nd took it under half as it tried water pulse which healed quagsire, a third KOd it.
Mudbray took an aqua jet from arrocuda and got up iron defense, a whirlpool was followed by rock smash, then a 2nd whirlpool and bulldoze finished off arrocuda.
Last was Drednaw, i stayed in the hard switched to Quagsire to negate the max geyser, then protected to reduce the damage of max strike, took another max strike and hit mud shot, a 2nd mud shot hit hard after a headbutt, then another. Quagsire was very low so i swapped to Diglett who took a bite and bulldoze finished the match.
Heading on to Galar Mine 2 I caught itsatrap! the Stunfisk and Sluggo the Shellos before facing Bede.
VS Bede
Quagsire put Solosis to sleep with yawn, hitting a mud shot on turn 2, after it went to sleep 2 more mud shot finished it.
Mudbray took a psyshock from gothita hit bulldoze for over half then despite triggering competitive, outsped and finished it with another bulldoze
2 bulldoze took out hattena taking a psybeam in the process
Finally Swinub tried to take on Ponyta but failed. Baltoy used light screen and finished it with a few rock tombs.
At this point I realized I forgot an encounter (ok i didn't, most encounters in this game are in multiple places and i thought this one wasnt till later) so I went back for Drilbur. At least i know it wouldn't have helped much against Milo or Nessa.
After training drilbur, catching a better Golett and returning to Motostoke in the hotel i faced Marnie
VS Marnie
Palpitoad's mud shot cleanly one shot Croagunk, 2 bubblebeams took scraggy into the red taking a couple of headbutts, she healed, 2 more took it low again, it headbutted me and a third bubblebeam finished it
Morpeko made Mudbray flinch, 2nd hit didn't and a single bulldoze one shot it.
After heading to the gym i marvelled at how hop let you walk past him inside, then teleported next to the front desk.
VS Kabu
So baltoy got burned and light screen. swapped to Paliptoad who took a quick attack and got burned oh no! except bubblebeam is special, and 2 shot ninetales after a quick attack.
Then arcanine came in. it sadly made palpitoad flinch but after a 2nd bite, mud shot did almost half and slowed him as bite + burn finished off palpitoad. Sent in drilbur, realized quickly it has no ground moves and swapped quagsire in on a will o wisp.
after a bite a soft sand boosted mud shot finished Arcanine
Finally came Centiskorch, foddered baltoy and Mudbray to waste 2 turns of dynamax, then quagsire protected to stall the final turn taking a little damage from max flutterby. I also healed his burn earlier and he levelled up after beaing Arcanine so at lv28 he learned Aqua tail.
and after a bug bite, a critical hit Aqua Tail one shot Centiskorch for the win.
After all the cutscenes i headed to Hammerlocke, met Raihan and moved on to route 6
there i cought Yo Mama the Hippopotas, Buzzy the Trapinch, Spoopy the Yamask and Snek the Silcobra. After giving Yamask a focus sash and putting it up against a high levelled rhydon in the wild area, it took the big hit needed, ran away and evolved into Runerigus under the arch.
Made it to Stow on Side, was a little underlevelled so trained up a bit. Mudbray evolved into Mudsdale and Swinub into Piloswine. Re-taught ancient power.
VS Hop
Quagsire put Cramorant to sleep and Runerigus finished it with 2 Shadow Claws, will o wisp after a strong razor leaf hurt thwackey quite badly so Runerigus was able to take it out with a couple of hits. Excadrill handled Silicobra, hone claws as it used dig then a critical hit dig from Excadrill took it out.
Piloswine one shot Toxel with a dig.
In the gym piloswine evolved into Mamoswine.
VS Alister
Excadrill used hone claws and got disabled, one shot Yamask and Cursola with a dig each. After a shadow sneak metal claw broke Mimikyu's disguise, a baby doll eyes followed by a crit metal claw KOd Mimikyu.
Last was G-Max Gengar which hit max darkness for a smidgeon, then dig almost one shot it before g-max terror finally finished Excadrill, with g-max done Silicobra dodged a hypnosis and finished it off for some exp.
After the gym i went up to the Mural
VS Bede
So excadrill used Hone Claws as he used Reflect. I used hone claws a few more times to partially negate reflect but also waste turns of it, duosion's psyshock wasn't doing much to Excadrill anyway.
So eventually dig burned the last turn of Reflect and on the following turn one shot Duosion. Excadrill at +4 proceeded to one shot Gothorita, Hattrem and Ponyta too.
Going through to Ballonlea wasn't too difficult. Quagsire handled most of the gym trainers to try and get a couple of levels.
VS Opal
Excadrill sweep. Hone Claws then a light fairy wind. Metal Claw didn't quite KO Weezing but a 2nd one did the trick and another fairy wind barely hurt. Mawile is the reason i used hone claws. At neutral stats a dig one shot it.
At this point i was up 2 speed and 2 Def/spdef thanks to her quiz, so rock slide did over half to togekiss, air slash barely touched Excadrill and a metal claw ended it.
Metal claw did about half to Alcremie before G-max finale barely dented me and healed her up, but then giving her the answer she wanted (not the correct answer lol) boosted Excadrill by +2 so a metal claw finished Alcremie.
Outside of Hammerlocke...
VS Hop
This was tricky. so Trevenant kept confusing Excadrill, i swapped to Mudsdale with own tempo on a horn leech, i swapped back to excadrill thinking he'd go again. nope, confuse ray, that is he tried to confuse a pokemon with own tempo and only because i switched did he hit excadrill instead. Le sigh.
Excadrill broke through twice with metal claws, taking horn leeches before hitting itself and going down. Mamoswine finished it with ice Fang. then in comes Heatmor which slashes Quagsire and is one shot by aqua tail.
Rillaboom is the big threat. it outsped and one shot Mamoswine. Runerigus was able to burn it, then sandaconda stalled a bit with dig, sand spit triggered and sandstorm + burn chipped it to yellow before Sandaconda fell, last turn i healed up mudsdale who took a drum beating and heavy slam finished it.
Mudsdale went back and forth with Snorlax through a potion before one last High Horsepower took it out after a third stockpile. then after a crunch one final High Horsepower KOd Boltund to win.
After being unimpressed with Sandaconda for a while i decided to swap it for Hippopotas.
On route 8 heading to Circhester I caught Rhyhorn. Swapping Mudsdale for now. I went back for some raid dens to get candy and level up Hippopotas and Rhyhorn getting Hippowdon and Rhydon in the process. Got everyone up to 40-42 for the gym
VS Melony
Mamoswine one rounded Frosmoth with expert belt boosted rock blast, after a taunt it did the same to Darmanitan, then 4 hits allowed it to break Eiscue's ice face and finish it with the reemaining 3 hits.
Mamoswine did a chunk to Lapras before a Max Geyser crit one shot it. Excadrill hit rock slide for another chunk before falling to max geyser. Rhydon baited max geyser as i swapped Quagsire to neutralize it.
Quagsire yawned and protected to make lapras sleep then rhydon came in, got outsped and got hit with a crit surf. leave it to hippowdon to tank a surf, snadstorm chip plus dig then finished Lapras.

5. Getting used to losing!
In the last update, I fought Guzma and beat him after getting destroyed by Masquerain twice, and things didn't get better, as I lost twice to Totem Mimikyu too. But before that, a big advantage of US/UM over S/M is that you can enter Mount Lanakila earlier, so you can evolve Crabrawler! So now, finally, my team is fully evolved.
As for the Totem Mimikyu fight, he didn't miss a single Play Rough, and even critted Bewear in one of the tries. The strategy was using Beat Up with Passimian to break the disguise and do some damage, but it was not enough, Play Rough was too much. In the end the key was Crabominable surviving in one of the attempts with 2 HP, and getting an Ice Punch hit. Bewear with Iron Head finished the fight!
Plumeria at Route 15 was easy, as Crabominable easily beat Golbat, and Passimian with Bulldoze beat the Salazzle. But next important fight was Guzma again, and that means trouble. I went for the same strategy as before, Sitrus Berry to Hawlucha, but forgot to put my bird first, so I could not trigger Unburden and Masquerain swept my team with Air Slash. And yeah, my useless Poliwrath flinched again, ridiculous, 3 times the same fight. Sixth loss. But next try the strategy worked, and with Acrobatics, Hawlucha easily swept Guzma's team.
To finish at Ula'ula, you have 2 more important fights, but these were easy as both Gladion and Nanu have many Pokémon weak to Fighting. Gladion's Golbat with Acrobatics was annoying but Bewear could endure the hits easily thanks to her ability. And Pangoro easily dealt with Nanu's Sableye and Krokorok, while Crabominable beat the Alolan Persian after my Pangoro went down.
Another island done, next we will go to Aether Paradise to help Lillie!
Additional Rules: - No items on important battles (rival, leaders, etc.)
- Set mode for important battles.
6. Aether Paradise cleared! The Guzma nightmare continues!
Let's rescue Cosmog! Aether Paradise trainers, including Faba, were not that hard. His Hypno was annoying with Nightmare in the first try and then with Focus Blast in the second, but Pangoro easily dealt with his team.
But now, it is Guzma again, so it's pain again. I lost once again to the Masquerain. I went for the Unburden strategy, but this time after Golisopod he sent his new addition to his team, Vikavolt, and beat Hawlucha with it. And yeah, for the 4th time in a row, Poliwrath flinched to his Air Slash, so I cannot even try Hypnosis.
I tried again, giving a Quick Claw to Crabominable this time, and, yeah, this speaks for itself, I had my camera ready, as I knew it was coming:
Quick Claw didn't work either, so it was another loss. 5 times I have sent Poliwrath vs. Masquerain, 5 times he made me flinch, factoring Air Slash 95 % accuracy, that is a 0.188 % of happening... I cannot even try the Hypnosis! But next try, Quick Claw worked for Crabominable, so finally the bug went down!
To "compensate", his Vikavolt got 2 crits in a row, but fell to Bewear's Thrash, and then Poliwrath beat Pinsir and Pangoro finished the fight against a very weakened Golisopod.
After this you fight Dulse, but a lv. 47 Poipole is not too hard, and while poison was annoying, it was a relatively quick fight. And to end Aether Paradise, you have to fight Lusamine. She starts with Clefable, who is a big trouble for my team. Thankfully, she had bad AI, and went for Psychic and Hyper Voice instead of Moonblast, so even if Pangoro went down, Clefable was weakened enough for Passimian to finish it off. After this the fight was not hard. Hawlucha missed High Jump Kick after defeating her Lilligant and that made Lopunny beat him, but otherwise with my Bewear and Passimian everything (Bewear, Lopunny and Milotic) went down.
So now, I am at Poni island, ready (or not, after 8 losses and a Totem Ribombee on the horizon xD) for the final island!
When we last left our heroine she had just defeated Melony.
After some events in the restaurant.
VS Hop
Dubwool literally did nothing. It just hit growl once, then spammed defense curl. Mudsdale got it low and i swapped to Excadrill expecting him to heal. nope. So i used Swords Dance as hail took it out. It didn't try to attack once.
at +2 Excadrill took over half off rillaboom with metal claw, took a brick break then finished it, a +2 soft sand boosted dig one shot Snorlax and Pincurchin. finally a rock slide did over half to Corviknight but a drill peck finished off Excadrill leaving Rhydon to KO with fire fang after a scary face.
Headed down towards Spikemuth. Outside Marnie wanted to battle.
VS Marnie
Hippowdon took a sucker punch from liepard and knocked it low with dig, she healed on a crunch and a 2nd dig after another sucker punch took it down. Mudsdale took a crunch from Scrafty and managed to land Double Kick.
Scrafty then used Swagger....big mistake, Mudsdale has own tempo so thanks for the free +2. Earthquake took it out, after a sucker punch earthquake one shot toxicroak, then after a crunch, another one one shot Morpeko for the win.
Through Spikemuth I faced team yell with Mamoswine.
VS Piers
Oh no scrafty has intimidate! well Mudsdale has own tempo so nyeh. Iron defense followed a sand attack. brick break didn't do much as double kick took over half, another brick break another double kick and down goes Scrafty.
Malamar hit a soft psycho cut and dodged an earthquake, foul play hit hard, 2nd Earthquake did too, 2nd foul play, third earthquake....dodged. swapped to hippowdon on a foul play then after a 2nd, crunch finished Malamar.
Rhydon used rock blast on the obstruct before....outspeedint Obstagoon with hammer arm to almost one shot it? oh, counter. down goes Rhydon.
Well I figured he'd heal so Excadrill used Swords Dance, nope Obstruct. either way drill run finished it, outsped and drill run finished Skuntank in one shot.
After farming a couple of raid dens, i levelled up and evolved Golett into Golurk, swapping out Rhydon. I beat the gym trainers in Raihan's gym no sweat.
VS Raihan
So first flygon annoyed with breaking swipe as quagsire took both Flygon and Gigalith down a bit with Icy Wind. Mudsdale's heavy slam did a chunk to gigalith, after a few turns i had to switch Mudsdale for Golurk as Quagsire outsped and finished Flygon.
Gigalith's body press did nothing to Golurk. Sandaconda came in and Gigalith fell next turn to a stomping tantrum after Sandaconda protected. in came Duraladon to hit a max knuckle as Sandacona used Earth Power on Golurk, Quagsire aqua tailed Sandaconda and Golurk used Phantom force.
Sandaconda protected itself as did Quagsire, max knuckle hurt a tiny bit through protect and Phantom Force ignores protect lol so a crit almost took out Sandaconda.
Quagsire finally fell as Golurk took down Sandaconda. Duraladon was all alone but a +3 breaking swipe did finally take down Golurk and Mudsdale after 2 turns, both of them hitting Duraladon. giving a free switch in to Excadrill and Mamoswine. Ice Shard + Drill Run later and match is over.
After taking the train to Wyndon i decided my final team would be the one i have. Hippowdon, Golurk, Mudsdale, Quagsire, Mamoswine and Excadrill. Sucks to not have any Galar pokemon there but none of them are good enough honestly. And unlike USUM i had other options this time.
there were plenty of other pokemon i caught sitting in the box unused for a long time like baltoy and diglett.
VS Marnie
Mamoswine hit hard with ice fang after Liepard used nasty plot. she healed and ice shard took it below half, prankster nasty plot outsped a 2nd ice shard into the red before a third finished Liepard.
after taking a crunch, a double power, black belt boosted, critical hit Revenge from Mudsdale annihiliated Scrafty. Hippowdon got toxiced and one shot Toxicroak with Earthquake, Morpeko used torment and met the same fate.
Finally was Grimmsnarl. Mudsdale refused to use heavy slam, some mechanic i don't know about i guess. and 2 Max Starfall KOd it, Quagsire stalled the last turn with protect before taking a darkest lariat, landing a high horsepower, then Grimmsnarl used torment as a 2nd high Horsepower finished it.
VS Hop
Dubwool outsped and hit Mamoswine with body slam, dig did over half, 2nd body slam hit, paralyzed. Dig still KOd.
Snorlax took a stomping tantrum well, hit high horsepower before Golurk KOd with Drain Punch
Corviknight went back and forth Drill Peck vs Phantom Force, he healed in the yellow which gave Golurk enough HP after drain punch to survive a drill peck and phantom force for the KO.
Hippowdon outsped and one shot Pincurchin with Earthquake.
Excadrill set swords dance, took a max quake, hit rock slide, 2nd quake finished it. Mamoswine outsped with ice shard, then took a max strike, got paralyzes on the 2nd one sadly. leave it to Mudsdale to take an uproar and finish with heavy slam.
By the way, Rillaboom didn't use Drum Beating or Max Overgrowth, ever.
After 3 battles with the same guy, and climbing rose tower...
VS Oleana
Mudsdale one shot Froslass with a Heavy Slam after it used Double Team. Milotic was next and guess what, only has Surf to attack with. Quagsire stone walls it. So she used Aqua Ring, High horsepower took her below half then she healed up slightly. Another took her low after a safeguard.
She used recover and a high horsepower crit KOd Milotic.
Tsareena came out and didn't even get to move before an ice fang crit one shot her from Mamoswine.
Quagsire got poisoned, missed aqua tail, venoshock, missed again. 2nd venoshock before finally landing Aqua Tail for the one shot. then poison made it faint.
Finally Mudsdale took a Max Quake from Garbodor, almost one shot it with Earthquake, then took another before finishing it.
Back at the Stadium
VS Bede
Excadrill set up Swords Dance and took a crunch from Mawile, in hindsight one more would have probably swept (intimidate meant it was only at +1) Earthquake still one shot mawile, psycho cut from rapidash followed by metal claw one shot it.
Metal claw one shot Gardevoir and almost one shot Hatterene who KOd with Max Flare. Mamoswine outsped with Earthquake for the KO.
VS Nessa
Excadrill knocked Golisopod below half with rock slide so it exited for Barraskewda. Quagsire took a drill run on the switch...because it doesn't have water moves oh wait it does! and it tried to use one on Quagsire, healing it with liquidation as high horsepower knocked it low
she healed and high horsepower knocked it low again before a third kod it after a throat chop. Golurk watched Seaking use aqua ring and used phantom force, then hit it after dodging a waterfall, took a waterfall and KOd with drain punch.
Excadrill finished Golisopod with rock slide again. knocked pelliper low before i swapped Quagsire into a water pulse for healing, roost followed by rain boosted aqua tail then air slash flinch made me switch to Excadrill again on the air slash. She outsped with roost because tailwind was up.
So rock slide didn't do much, water pulse hurt but now the super effective rock slide finished it. G-Max Drednaw uses....max darkness as i switch in Quagsire(why is the AI like this?) So i swap in hippowdon on another one. to hopefully bait the Stonesurge. it does, which heals Quagsire and with its Gmax done drednaw used jaw lock and one high horsepower KOd it.
VS Alister
Hippowdon took over half off Dusknoir with crunch, ate a rock tomb, then got outsped with shadow punch and crunched for the KO
Excadrill set Swords Dance as Polteageist did the same with Nasty Plot, then it stalled with protect before Earthquake took it down. This sadly meant the sandstorm died out (Hippo had black glasses)
Excadrill still outsped and one shot Chandelure and Cursola with Earthquake before eating a Max Darkness from Gengar and one shotting with Earthquake.
VS Raihan
Easy. Mudsdale outsped and one shot Torkoal with Earthquake. Golurk hit Ice Punch on Goodra to the red as he used Rain Dance. Expecting a surf i swap to Quagsire but he just heals.
But he did try to surf quagsire to no avail as ice punch takes it below half and freezes. 2nd ice Punch finished Goodra. Flygon uses Sandstorm as Quagsire one shots it with Ice Punch.
Mudsdale outspeeds and one shots Turtonator with Earthquake and then there's Duraladon. G-Max Depletion did about half, Earthquake did over half. Max Knuckle put a small dent in Mudsdale as Earthquake ended the match.
After the cutscenes
VS Rose
Mudsdale earthquaked Escavalier as it used Swords dance. then KOd it with a 2nd. Excadrill set up swords dance on ferrothorn, it used curse. earthquake, curse, earthquake KO.
2nd Swords Dance on Purrserker just in case, it used throat chop. Earthquake one shot. Klingklang outsped with assurance for a smidgeon before Earthquake KOd it. then even G-Max Copperajah couldn't take a +4 Earthquake from Excadrill, OHKO.
finally
VS Leon
Aegislash stalled for the first turn, then flash cannon hurt Hippowdon but the return Earthquake knocked out Aegislash.
Snipe Shot did nothing to Quagsire who took over half with High Horsepower. Tearful look could have been annoying but a 2nd high Horswpower plus sandstorm damage KOd Intelon
Haxorus immediately one shot Golurk with Outrage before Mudsdale took an outrage, hit back with earthquake. Haxorus was confused, hit itself and another Earthquake finished it.
Mamoswine got 5 hits off an Expert Belt boosted Rock Blast to one round Mr Rime before out came Dragapult. Ice Fang from Mamoswine after a flamethrower took it low, Leon healed, Ice Shard did over half, then a 2nd KOd.
Then came the big Kahuna. G-Max Charizard. Hippowdon set sandstorm and fainted to Max Overgrow. Excadrill's Rock Slide didn't one shot so Max Wildfire annhilated it. Quagsire stalled the last turn of G max with protect then i healed Mudsdale as charizard charged solarbeam.
I stayed in, took the hit and safley brought in Mudsdale who dodged Fire Blast, hit a Heavy Slam. then took a fire blast and finished charizard with one final heavy slam.
The pokemon that i ridiculed in USUM. Won the champion fight for me. with 2 KOs to boot. Thank you Jenny.

Run MVP: I mean it's Excadrill, it's obviously Excadrill one of the most broken pokemon in competitive history when paired with sand, great defensive typing, powerful moves, swords dance. Steel typing was very helpful for a ton of mandatory battles in this game.
LVP: The Galar Ground types
Two games in a row where the new region ground types aren't as good in their home game. though Runerigus was alright Stunfisk was pretty bad and Sandaconda was underwhelming. I tried using them and dropped them pretty quick for established heavy hitters like Golurk and Hippowdon
Honorable Mention: Mudsdale
Incredibly physically bulky, powerful moves, strong earlygame with iron defense and high horsepower, took some gnarly hits in the lategame. A far cry from the meek little colt that got shredded every time a special attack looked at him funny in USUM
Salutations! Thanks so much for keeping this thread up for years now. glad it's still active because I wanted to redo my bug monotype attempt from 2023. I am surprised I am still on the challenger list! My Intention is to for now do a single bug type run, but I want to eventually do an ultimate bug type run. It looks like though that i'd have to do FireRed all over again though if I wanted to go from a single to an ultimate run, so I will register now as an ultimate run and do FireRed now; do the other games later.

Caught Caterpie & Weedle at Viridian Forest. Brock's Onix was rough, so I had to get Butterfree to Lvl 15 to use Sleep Powder/Confusion combo to down Geodude and Onix. Beedrill is a phys. attacker and is useless here. Cut through to Mt. Moon where I caught Paras, and found the Bullet Seed TM there cause i'd need a grass move for Misty. Taught Bullet Seed to Paras. Against her It took a few tries. Staryu was easy; Stun Spore + Bullet Seed. Starmie was pretty tricky though. It always attacked first and the water pulse/swift packed a punch. I'd use Butterfree's sleep powder and would chip it down as much as possible with Bullet Seed. When Starmie would wake back up and down my Pokemon, i'd have to clean up with Beedrill's Fury Attack. It was a team effort for sure. Ran down to Vermilion City and cleared S.S. Anne's. Got HM01 and now it's Lt. Surge Time. Since I know Ground is great against Electric, I taught Parasect Dig (Dig is given in Cerulean City after beating the team rocket guy.) So with Dig and some paralyze heals I went in. Parasect's dig was able to one shot the entire gym. Yawn. I went ahead to the rock tunnel and rushed through it. Arrived in Lavender Town and used Butterfree's Confusion to shred through the gauntlet of Gastlys in the Pokemon Tower. Forgot I needed the Silph Scope to get to the final floor the tower so I went back down and began a little bit of Route 12.
So far Butterfree has been a real MVP, with very early access to sleep powder and good special attack. Parasect has been flexible cause he has the best move coverage so far. Beedrill, like the last run, has been mostly useless. His typing hasnt been helpful. He's mostly just been help cleaning up and helping take the blows for the other two. I still plan to level him up and give him best possible move set, cause a kanto bug type run doesn't have the most wiggle room.
Do let me know if you need proof for anything. Thanks

Bug Type FireRed Log #2
Spoiler: FireRed Log #2
Went down through Route 12 till the Snorlax blocked the way. So then I went back up and cut through route 8 and reached Celadon City. Got the Coin Case at the house below the game corner. Scyther is indeed available to purchase in the Game Corner and according to the rules I can hack coins in to buy him or hack Scyther in himself. So I went ahead and hacked Scyther in. Pinsir is also available here in LG to buy @ Game Corner, but it seems to specific to justify in the rules so i'll just wait till the Safari zone to hack him in. Now it was time for Celadon Gym, and I wanted a flying type move for her. Scyther can learn Wing Attack at Lv26 so I leveled him up and was able to one shot the whole gym with him. She gave Giga Drain TM after I beat him and I intended to give to Parasect for the STAB but since he's so versatile I might give it to a different pokemon, we will see when the time comes (probably E4 time.) I cleared the rocket hideout and the scope, completed pokemon tower in lavender and was able to move the snorlax. Continued down Route 12 and got my Venonat. I skipped 90% of the trainers in Route 12 so I could get my Pinsir and go back to use the Route 12 XP on my new team members. Got down to Fuscia City and the Safari Zone. Here I can hack in Pinsir because he is a version exclusive to LG at the Safari Zone, so I went ahead and got my Pinsir in! I am now at my full team! So I went back to route 12 and worked through the remaining trainers to try to get my Venonat and Pinsir up to the other members levels. It was now time for Fuscia Gym. He was the trickiest gym yet. Even though his Pokemon is weak to flying/psychic, they were tanky enough that my moves didn't even seem effective. Muk was super tanky and kept using minimize to skyrocket his evasiveness. I had to use my big guns (butterfree) to sleep him + psybeam as much as fast as possible before his evasiveness got too high. The rest of the team i'd clean up with Venonat's confusion and other Pokemon on my team. Phew. Off to the cycling road now, but I didn't grab my cycle back in Cerulean. So I ran all the way back, got the bike pass in Vermilion, turned that in to the bike shop in Cerulean and got my bike, came all the way back down to fuscia. Ran through the cycling path and got the Fly HM. Back down to Fuscia and ran through the Safari Zone. Got Surf HM and the Gold Teeth in there. Gave the Teeth to the Warden and he gave me the Strength HM. Began surfing down Route 19 and arrived at the Seafoam Islands.
Ran through Seafoam Islands and swam to Cinnabar. Cleared Cinnabar Mansion. Boy, Cinnabar Gym was quite the wake up call. Rapidash and Arcanine's Fire Blasts would one shot my entire team. So I had to take a step back and formulate a plan. Most importantly I taught Scyther Rain Dance, and this halves fire type moves. Now, the fire blasts wouldn't one shot me at least and gave me room to deal damage. I also ended up teaching Rock Tomb to Pinsir (The only rock type move available on my team) because I didn't really have a great move vs. fire types. These changes helped a lot and was able to beat him. Finally gave the tea to the guards and got to Saffron. Saffron gym was super easy. Flew to to Viridian and got the last gym. It was also pretty easy, using a mix of my psychic and fighting moves. I now had all gym badges and was ready to face the E4! I got to the Plateau.
Spoiler: E4 Prep and Execution
E4 Prep
I looked at my team's moves and compared what's needed to cover E4 + what my team could learn. With that I taught Earthquake to Pinsir, Giga Drain and Thief to Venomoth, Shadow Ball (hacked in bc game corner item) & Psychic to Butterfree, and Steel Wing to Scyther.
EV training. Pinsir is the most important, so I made sure to level him a good amount and EV trained attack to make sure he does a good job. I also EV trained Venonat's speed to be able to get Sleeps off first.
Type Coverage Pinsir: Dewgong, Cloyster, Lapras, Onix (x2), Arbok, , Dragonite, Gyarados, Aerodactyl
Venomoth (and Butterfree as a plan B): Slowbro, Gengar (x2), Haunter, Golbat, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, Machamp
Scyther: Jynx, Aerodactyl
No Coverage Vs.: Dragonair (x2)
**Although Venomoth has more type coverage than Scyther, Scyther could likely replace him in some scenarios, because he's generally a stronger pokemon. Otherwise he does have a place in some fights.

The rest of my team is mostly dead weight, but there are a couple plan Bs mixed in. I highly doubt Beedrill and Parasect will help at all, and mainly be team placeholders to allow myself to revive/heal the important ones in the background. Butterfree is a good plan B for Venomoth; they're nearly exactly the same Pokemon, but Venomoth is faster and can learn Psychic by levelling up. I don't expect Venomoth to hold up the entire run so Butterfree will have to take it's place.
Vs. Lorelei: Pinsir did most of the work, Swords Dance (x2) + Brick Break sweeped through Dewgong, Cloyster and Lapras. Venomoth had to sleep and Giga Drain Slowbro. Scyther swept Jynx.
Vs. Bruno: Pinsir swept the 2 Onix with Earthquake, Venomoth Slept + Psychic for his fighting types.
Vs. Agatha: Venomoth did most of the work, Slept + Psychic to the 2 Gengars, Haunter and Golbat. Pinsir swept Arbok with Quake.
Vs. Lance: Slept Gyarados and cleared with Pinsir's Rock Tomb. Aerodactyl was rough, and had to sleep + Rock Tomb/Steel Wing. I rain Danced Arcanine with Scyther and cleared with Rock Tomb. I had to sleep Dragonite and clear with Rock Tomb, had no super effective vs. Dragonairs, so i'd sleep + Clear out with my attackers.
Gary was a little tricky but had enough coverage to get him. Had to sleep a few and get my hits off.
It was a great run. Pinsir did most of the heavy lifting, and Venomoth did well at taking care of what Pinsir couldn't. Venomoth successfully replaced Scyther in some scenarios, but there were definitely spots Scyther was needed. Butterfree had to be used a couple of times in replacement of Venomoth. Parasect and Beedrill were virtually useless to the run, only placeholders to take a blow while I healed the others in the background. It was fun. FR out the way, on to the next journey.
Caught Wurmple immediately at route 101, it evolved into Silcoon instead of Cascoon, so I caught a Cascoon in Petalburg Woods when I got up there. But before that caught Surskit at Route 102. So far it's been arduous because my team only knew weak moves. I couldn't clear the first gym (Rock) without getting Dustox/Beautifly up to around lvl 15, even then it was rough. Beautifly getting one shotted by the rock throws, Dustox is beefy so it could take the blows and get them down with poisoning + Confusion. Sailed to Slateport for the devon goods and beat the fighting gym, it wasn't too rough with Confusion. Took the underpass to Mauville, Nincada's mud slap did more work than i'd expected and cleared nearly all 3 of his pkmn. So far Nincada and Surskit struggle a lot to keep up with Dustox and Beautifly. Dustox is the apex predator so far, he clears well like Beautifly but he takes blows well, whereas Beautifly gets one shotted easily if its a bad type matchup. But I think the dynamic of the team will change as the other two evolve.
Got up to the point where I beat Groudon and am facing Sootopolis Gym. It's been a challenge indeed. I would say the cards are stacked against you until you are able to grab Heracross at the Safari Zone due to underpowered pokemon and the lack of type coverage. Flannery wasn't as hard i'd expect, thanks to water sport. Norman was a bit rough but I was able to slowly beat his tanky Pkmn down. Winona was pretty tough and had to use plenty of revives. Mossdeep would erase my team with one rock slide unless I was able to survive and have heracross one shot Solrock.
Now that Groudon is defeated, I now have access to catch Joltik and Dwebble if I wanted them on my team. I believe I could get an Armaldo, need to look it up.. Surely there will be changes to the team for the E4. Obviously since I got Heracross he's been the saving grace. I want a Pinsir but he's p much exactly like Heracross. Ninjask has been very usless, with weak stats/moves. I am trying to find a way to make him viable being his very fast speed stat. Dustox has been dwindling in usefullness, as Beautifly/Masquerin do similar work in the team and do it a little better with more coverage and better stat. I might include Shedinja in the mix w/ wonder guard. I did catch an Illumise a while back but there are better options. Good time for an update now that I am near the E4.
Spoiler: Team
Heracross (Mega) Lv43
Megahorn / Stone Edge / Close Combat / Smack Down
Masquerain Lv40
Air Slash / Blizzard / Bubble Beam / Water Sport
This is not something I'd recommend taking to the League in ORAS unless you really want a counter to Steven's Mega Metagross.
There are only four Pokemon in the League that can't 1HKO Shedinja: Drake's Kingdra, Steven's Metagross and Claydol, and Glacia's Walrein, and that last one doesn't work either if she managed to set Hail with any of her other four Pokemon.
That being, said, Shedinja is an excellent option against Wallace. The only things he can do against it are using Luvdisc's Lovely Kiss to confuse it, which is negatable by a Persim or Lum Berry, or Seaking's Horn Drill if Shedinja is level 44 or lower.
Got to League and prepared for E4. Caught Joltik. Got Galvantula to Lvl 46 for Night Slash. Taught Earthquake to Hera, Thunder to Galv, Psychic to Dustox, Scald and Blizzard to Masquerain, Shadow Ball to Beautifly.
Vs. Sidney: Was a breeze due to his heavy bug weakness. Swept through with 1 of my Pkmn, except had to switch out to Dustox to tank Absol due to his speed.
Vs. Pheobe: Galv Night Slash + Beautifly's Shadow Ball to get through most, cleaned up with others. Had to water sport for Dusknoir's fire punch and sweep through his beefy HP with Mega Hera.
Vs. Glacia: Hera's Stone Edge did good work for most, as well as the other's Shadow Ball or Night Slash.
Vs. Drake: My super effective moves all had low PP, and I had a stroke of luck with his moves missing. Most of his team was 4x weak to Ice, so I reserved Masq for Flygons & Salamence, Hera cleaned Altaria and Seadra.
Vs. Steven: Galv for Skarmory. Heracross for the rest.
This run was pretty grueling, a lot of hair pulling, but it became rewarding and was really fun at the end. I can't tell whether to love or hate it, but I will sure miss it. Galvantula carried a ton of weight and had Compound Eyes, and I could imagine it'd be much rougher if it was in R/S/E without him. Him and Hera were the main heavyweights. Beautifly and Masquerain had important spots in the team, offering some decent spread and damage. Dustox was mostly outclassed by Beaut/Masq, I had a Anorith with me and was planning to use him but ended up useless. Ninjask was useless the entire run, and I didn't bother with Shedinja/Illumise. I could have opted for a Crustle, but I felt Armaldo was a better option, and even then I ended up not needing him.
Spoiler: POST E4 TEAM
Heracross (Mega) Lv.53
Close Combat / Megahorn / Earthquake / Stone Edge
Galvantula Lv.48 (compound eyes)
