FireRed hack: Sword and Shield Ultimate Plus GBA English Version (Complete 1.2.1.2)

There is a small issue I have noticed.
The Pokemon Ferroseed is supposed to be in Route 4 like in the original games but doesnt seem to exist here.

Thanks. The spawns aren't perfectly mapped to SwSh. I don't know if I'm going to totally overhaul, but this is a good callout. I'm glad this is the type of stuff getting noticed vs what the issues were at the beginning :)
 
Hi Everyone!

I've been obsessed with the idea of GBA demakes for later games for a little while now. I stumbled across PCL.g and Jean star's Sword and Shield GBA game.

There are a few versions of this game floating around online. The regular version and an ultimate version. The regular version is in both Portuguese and English, while the Ultimate version is only in Portuguese.

While very cool in concept, these games all suffer from compatibility issues. They can only be played on specific emulators with specific settings. I did a deep dive into all of these roms in order to try to gain functionality on real hardware (ie, flashable repro. carts). The non-ultimate versions have a bug which will not allow you to progress past the title screen and will crash. I have had no success in fixing that version.

That left me with the Ultimate version. The Ultimate version worked...kinda. It contained game breaking bugs which caused crashes when you try to view either your bag or your party. This makes it impossible to catch Pokemon, use items, and many other issues which you could conceive.

I have fixed those bugs and now the game is playable on all emulators I have tested (mGBA, VBA-M, and no$gba) and functions on reflashed reproduction cartridges as well as on the Analogue pocket's openFPGA.

The game was still only in Portuguese. As a native English speaker, I wanted to play in my own language. I have faithfully translated the Ultimate version into English.

Here I am sharing a .ups patch which you can patch to a base Fire Red ROM which you may use to play on any medium of your choosing!

I want to again emphasize. I take no credit for the creation of this ROM hack, I merely translated it to English and fixed some bugs to make it compatible with real hardware. I asked PCL.G for permission to distribute this version and he approved my request.

Known Bugs:

  • In the Wyndon train station, there is an Eevee kid that will freeze the game if you speak to them prior to the piers event.
  • Do not return to Rose Tower after you have beaten it, Piers will block the way and you will be stuck!
  • Do not forget to go to the left of the stow-on-side gym for the mural event. Missing this event will mess up the corviknight flying taxi system.
  • in the mission to get the Z-bracelet, please give the man his Mudsdale back. Holding on to it will cause issues.
  • in the Isle of Armor, the absolute last thing you should do is battle Honey, she gives you the crown pass. She may give it to you if you haven't completed everything else.
  • Some collision issues.
  • Few scenarios where there are blank or repeated text boxes.

Hi, I currently play on a modded 3DS with homebrew, fbi, twilight menu. I bought the 3Ds already modded so im not very experienced in downloading more complex roms like this. Could someone please walk me through how to download and patch this and get it onto my 3ds? Im assuming i will have to use my pc which is fine, i just am not sure how to use patchers nor when i get it running, how add it to my 3ds. Im assuming i will patch fire red in my computer, and then drop the rom into a folder in my 3ds (probably twi menu). So yeah could someone please explain how this works, i moreso need detailed help on the "getting it into my 3ds" than i do with patching fire red because i can try to figure it out with google and the comments below here. But yeah, any and all help will be much appreciated.

lol no way!! This timing is crazy. I just made a complete tutorial for this on my discord. Are you on there?

Edit: the tutorial is for generating a cia file which is basically a 3ds virtual console file. You can also just grab the .gba rom and run it on an emulator, but i think the cia file is cooler.
 
I respect demakes of modern Mons games, but why does it still have the FRLG music? It'd be one thing if it were a space issue, but dozens of FR hacks choose to not switch it up as is and it kind of kills the immersion. Not that I'm implying you should demake the Gen 8 music, you could get away with porting tracks from Gens 4 and 5 instead.

Yeah i could, I'm not the og dev so i didn't make that call. I didn't realize the fire red soundtrack was so hated.

I mean to be fair, if I recall correctly, the first version of the demake used HG/SS music, maybe you could consider adding that?
 
It is a very good game, just that the elemental punch and fang moves are post game, as my Cinderance only had flame wheel as its only reliable stab move. Really hope that all the TRs will be assessable in later updates.

How would you go about evolving typically trade evolution Pokémon, specifically Electabuzz into an Electivire?

Hi, this is an emulator specific bug, where marines dialogue doesn't appear. If you mash A, you should get thru the invisible dialogue.
 
Hey, seems like there's a new version of SwSh GBA came out, will there be a port of the translation to this new version?
Yes. I have paused all work on the current English version to port the new version dropped by PCLg. I was able to quickly get the translation of the story done using some fun patching tricks, but there are still some bugs and the encounter tables need to be redone. As well as the random NPCs need translation. I'd also like to add in the bug fixes I've done on this version.
