Platinum hack: Pokémon Platinum Redux

I'm mixed so far.
The regional variants are a genuine 10/10 design wise, stuff like Magmortar, Blastoise, Togekiss, Flygon, etc, are genuinely super well done. Whoever did the sprite work did an amazing job.
I also like some of the new moves, access to earlier special rock type moves, unique moves like a water move that poisons for Venasaur, and even to access the new types the regionals get is amazing.

But there's a lot that bugs me.
The number of clowns everywhere to either block the way, give very video gamey tutorials, or give TMs feels almost artificial, when item balls already exist. Same with the Pc and professors just standing there
Like the Move balance confuses me. So many moves got buffed a little sure, but have 1-2 pp, which does very little outside of preventing spamming in a fight because max elixirs are free to buy. Like every change was done specifically to prevent someone from buffing their defenses, using stuff like leech seed/toxic then spamming potions.
Combined with all the high damage moves I feel like using anything other then offensive strats is so detrimental.
Some moves just have new and honestly odd effects, like headbutt dealing recoil, so many early game stat dropping moves dealing damage now makes every fight another chance to be caught by a super effective coverage move.

It's a well built rom hack with alot of great ideas, but for me it's held back by a lot of things that I just cannot click with.

My main issue is that there are so many moves that reduce accuracy. It's bad enough that some moves now have 90 accuracy, but then so many other moves can reduce your accuracy further.

Accuracy reduction shouldn't be a thing. If this is a difficulty hack, don't put in rng spikes. There are plenty of ailments to play around and other stat reductions the mess with, accuracy shouldn't be one of them.

This is what radical red did that EVERY other rom hacker needs to do, get rid on f accuracy dropping moves. Especially if you're adding in moves that aren't 100 percent accurate.

If a move attacks, has higher attack than it's original versions, AND CAN REDUCE ACCURACY, it's just a battle of who hits first. That makes no trainers that much more cheap and gimmicky. It's not fun, and will never be fun.

I'm at the point that it's not worth even playing anymore up until that dumb shit is taken out. Such a dumb decision.

Outside of this major (imo) gripe, the rest is great. Love the QoL improvements, pokevial, portable PC, all that. Super great.

Pokémon Platinum Redux

Latest Version: v2.9.6

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon Platinum Redux

You might be interested in Pokémon Platinum Redux if:
  • You look for a unique ROM hack with adjustments to virtually every Pokémon.
  • You enjoy challenging battles and team-building.
  • You like type and stat changes.
  • You don´t enjoy grinding.

Trailer:

Summary:

Platinum Redux is a difficulty/enhancement ROM hack of Platinum. The changes listed below aim to provide a more challenging Platinum experience with focus on teambuilding and battling. As a completed ROM hack, Platinum Redux includes all 493 catchable Pokémon. The Drive link includes documentation on Pokémon and move changes as well as information on boss fights and much more. It also includes a "How to Patch" and the xdelta patcher for 4 different versions of Platinum Redux (more on these versions below).

Primary Goals:

  • Differentiate Platinum Redux from Renegade Platinum:
Renegade Platinum is one of the best and most polished Pokémon ROM hacks. Every Platinum ROM hack will inadvertently be compared to Renegade Platinum. Platinum Redux has a lot of things like quality of life changes in common with Renegade Platinum but there are also massive differences. The Pokémon and move changes are more extreme in Platinum Redux. Therefore, Platinum Redux is less like the mainline Pokémon games. There are also a lot of regional forms in Platinum Redux with changed typings. Furthermore, every single Pokémon has adjusted stats, abilities or learnsets. Players new to Platinum Redux will be constantly surprises by different Pokémon forms, new moves and changed abilites. For anyone who doesn´t like being surprised, there is documentation for every change in the Drive link. If you want to play a game more similar to mainline Pokémon games, Platinum Redux is sadly not the ROM hack you are looking for.

  • Make every fully evolved Pokémon viable until lategame:
In mainline Pokémon games some Pokémon are straight up useless later in game. To ensure that every fully evolved Pokémon is useful up until the champion fight, most Pokémon got some sizable buffs to stats, moves or abilities in Platinum Redux. On the other hand some Pokémon (mostly legendaries) have received slight nerfs. Legendaries have, however, still the highest base stats. There is no way to perfectly balace hundreds of Pokémon but in Platinum Redux every Pokémon should be useful throughout the whole game. All stats, typings, abilities, learnsets and much more can be found in the documentation.

  • All fully evolved Pokémon have a unique niche/purpose:
To ensure that no two Pokémon have the exact same purpose, there are no fully evolved monotype Pokémon in Platinum Redux. All fully evolved monotype Pokémon in Platinum received a regional form with an additional typing. Some dual types also received a type change. All Pokémon with changed typings have an adjusted color palette that indicates the type change. Around 50% of fully evolved Pokémon have regional forms so there will be a lot of surprises if you play blind. Every type combination is distributed at least once. It is very difficult for every Pokémon to have a niche if many Pokémon with the same (mono)typing exist; with these regional forms, every Pokémon is unique. Some of the regional forms are very obvious (Bug/Dragon Flygon), some are more unique (Dark/Psycho Absol) and some are very experimental (Gras/Water Venusaur; it is a toad right?). If you are just looking through the documentation and ask yourself how on earth Beautifly is a Bug/Ice type, remember that the sprites have different colors that reflect the type changes.

  • Increased but fair difficulty:
There are no EVs in Platinum Redux. This increases difficulty but also reduces tedious grinding. Every trainer has champion level AI, better movesets, held items and more trainers are unavoidable. Platinum Redux is not supposed to be a super difficult hack (such as Radical Red or the Kaizo games). Thats why all trainer Pokémon have 16 IVs in all stats (31 in Kaizo game for comparison), so they should on average be as strong as your Pokémon. Some changes also decrease difficulty a bit, such as infinite TMs and early access to powerful battle items. In summary Platinum Redux will be a lot more challenging than the mainline Pokémon games but not as hard as ROM hacks designed to be super difficult.

  • Catch 'Em All:
Every single Pokémon is catchable somewhere in tall gras. Easy as that. You will find Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard and even Mew somewhere.

New Moves with Custom Animations

Features:

  • Type Chart and Different Versions:
Platinum Redux has 13 type chart changes. These impact around 5% of all interactions and should decrease the strength of the steel-type and make the normal-type more interesting. The changes are in the documentation. Many people don´t like type chart changes; that´s why there are 4 different versions of Platinum Redux. One version has the above listed type chart changes included, one version has the vanilla type chart and one version has the vanilla type chart but with the Gen 6 change that both ghost and dark attacks are neutral to steel. These 3 versions only differ in the type chart and nothing else.
"Hardcore", the 4th version, is an exception. In "Hardcore" enemy trainer Pokémon have 31 IVs and immunities are changed to resistances which makes switching in a lot harder. "Hardcore" also has the 13 type chart changes "Platinum Redux" has. All patches can be found in the Drive link.

  • Features for Nuzlocking:
You have the option to get an infinite amount of rare candies, max elixers, EXP shares and max heals on the first route. You are also informed about the levels of upcoming boss fights. There is also gras in areas where you couldn´t get an encounter in vanilla Platinum and there are some new areas with encounters.

  • New Events:
There are many new events, fights, gifts, Pokémon eggs and storylines in Platinum Redux. All story beats are, however, the same as in vanilla Platinum.

  • Quality of Life Features, Speedup and Damage Calculator:
All Platinum Redux versions have instant text and uncapped FPS.

You get infinite Rare Candies, Max Repels, Nuggets early on.

You can find the damage calculator with every boss fight here: Damage Calculator

The move reminder and move forgetter can be accessed through the portable PC. You also don´t have to pay anything for the move reminder.

You get a portable PC early on.

You can use the PokéVial to fully heal your team from anywhere, anytime.

Trade Pokémon always obey.

Check your Pokémons IVs anytime.

The shiny rate is increased to 1/257.

You will receive every useful hold item, TM and berry at an infinite amount during your playthrough.

Every Pokémon evolves by level.

There are no encounters while surfing.

Move and ability informations are more detailed with exact numbers.

The nature names show stat increases and decreases (for example: Jolly (+Spe/-SpA)).

Minimize the necessity of HMs.

You receive the National Pokédex early on.

And much, much more.

Oh man! This game was too much fun! I wish you would make Pokémon HeartGold Redux some day.

Is there a doc that provides info on how to evolve Pokemon? I'm stuck on how to evolve the regional porygon.

Hi, I was wondering if you were planning on putting in all Pokemon up to Gen 8 into the game

Hey there, i run in an issue that the game allways freezes when i select the gender in charakter selection. I use the current Version of the DsEmuMe and patched with the current patch just like in the HowTo. Do you have any suggestions what i am doing wrong or could change?
