This won't relate to Online stuff or anything, but this will be simply a hypothetical question, just for fun.

Let's just say that you had the power to create the official Smash Bros. roster on a new Super Smash Bros. game.

Which nintendo (or companies that are afflicted with nintendo) characters would you pick for the Super Smash Bros. game roster, and why?

Hm..hard choices, there are plenty of worthy characters.
Zoroark. It's the master of illusions, and has a bit of power. Fast, strong, and can transform into anything. If it had a Final Smash, I think it'd be a giant Night Daze (like in the movie). I'm not sure of anything else, because to be honest, I don't have any SSB games (you must be wondering why I'm posting then .-.).
    Sorry.

    My favorite topic.

First, Lil Mac is a SHOE IN. He has a strong western following, a long history and is considered a legendary retro character amongst fans. With Punch Out finally having got a new game on the Wii and considering it's success, it's only plausible to add a character from the series and who's better to go than Lil Mac. He'd also serve as a realistic character and represents a real world martial art. (Boxing) I personally feel Mac is the best representative for that case and Smash only has Snake and his CQC.

Then I'd consider adding more characters to a series already represented. Looking at the roster, it's very evident that despite deserving of more due to popularity Wario, Metroid and F-Zero have only one characters.

For Wario, it's an odd case. It's definitely deserving of at least one character, but it'd either be from Wario Land (Captain Syrup) or Warioware (the various members). Thing about Captain Syrup is that while she has moveset potential (being a pirate and all) and that she finally appeared in Wario Land game again with Shake It! she wasn't even relevant in that one. She'd be a pretty obscure character despite making sense as a smash newcomer. Then there's the Warioware crew, while diverse, you have to be extremely creative to think of a moveset for any of them. The obvious choice would be Mona or Jimmy T, but 9-Volt and Ashley (why...) are extremely popular and demanded. But there's also Kat and Ana who not only are popular and important in the series, but also have the most moveset potential (the new Ice Climbers?) and even appeared in Brawl! If I were given the choice, since it's the point of this thread, I'd go with both Captain Syrup and Kat & Ana. (I'd have gone with Jimmy T but there's a reason why not and you'll find out below.)

For Metroid it's the obvious Ridley. I don't buy the size BS. Though, his body proportion and structure is the real problem, but I'm sure there's a way to make him. Metroid NEEDS a new character and there's no other choice. Except maybe SA-X but she's pretty much a cloned Samus like Dark Samus.

F-Zero, it's either Samurai Goroh or Black Shadow since F-Zero isn't big enough for two. The former being more recognizable and having more moveset potential while the latter for popularity and being the main antagonist. I'd go with Samurai Goroh personally because relevancy and importance (and I like him better. I main him in GX after all!) is better than popularity. I could also say screw them both and add Bio Rex or Deathborn!

I'd also consider adding characters from IPs that aren't represented. The first to come to my mind is Advance Wars. It's big enough and has a cult following (IS also expressed interest in making a new game in the series), and if Fire Emblem has representatives then AW definitely deserves one. Of course the obvious choices are Andy, Max or Sami. For selfishness and better moveset potential I'd go with Sami, but Andy is more important.

Next is Takamaru, a character from a popular game in Japan and the "retro" representative. Despite having no knowledge of his game, I'd add him because of the huge demand, his moveset potential as a samurai and because samurais are cool. His theme is amazing as well!

Then there's Rhythm Heaven. The series is huge enough to get a representative one way or another, and though even if a stage is more appropriate, I wouldn't object to adding Karate Joe at all. He's not only appeared in all games in the series, but he's recognizable and has good moveset potential to boot. Plus, everyone loves him. (Especially Japan.)

And for selfish reason and a pretty much impossible character, I'd add Agent J from Elite Beat Agents or the leader from Ouendan. Now I don't know about you, but having an elite beat agent/male cheerleader fight in Smash with their crazy dance/cheerleading moves is something I dream about every day (and the reason why I don't consider Jimmy T. even though he'd do the same.) Also, EBA is awesome (and so is Ouendan). Everyone should play and everyone should know about it. No better way to do that than with Smash! I'd add both Agent J/Leader in the game and have them as alt costumes depending on people preferences. (In the west, the default would be J, and in asia it's the leader.)

Oh, and since there's huge demand for him and for the sake of adding a 10th character, I'd add K.Rool I guess. I'd much prefer a different Donkey Kong Country representative but eh.

    That wraps it up
    1. Lil Mac (Punch Out)
    2. Captain Syrup (Wario Land)
    3. Kat & Ana (Warioware)
    4. Ridley (Metroid)
    5. Samurai Goroh (F-Zero)
    6. Sami (Advance Wars)
    7. Takamaru (Nazo no Murasame Jo)
    8. Karate Joe (Rhythm Heaven)
    9. Agent J/Leader (Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan)
    10. King K.Rool (Dixie is better. Funky is better. Tikis are better.)

I'd also keep Snake and Sonic in by the way. I wouldn't cut anyone from the roster.

Here are my top 10 selections (not counting Pac-Man):

    1. Little Mac

An obvious shoe-in to the series due to the revival of his game. Plus SSB hasn't gotten a boxer character yet, and I'm sure Namco will easily work out his moveset since Tekken also has a boxer character.

    2. Takamaru

It's become a tradition to include a Japan-only Nintendo rep (Melee: Fire Emblem reps, Brawl: Lucas), and Takamaru fits the bill. He's also a samurai character, which again, SSB has yet to have, and since his game lets him use scrolls, he'll have something to separate himself from the other sword-users.

    3. Shulk

Xenoblade is the most popular of the three RPGs from Project Rainfall, and a new AAA IP in the modern era, which is what Sakurai has been looking for. However, we're not sure if the upcoming sequel will include Shulk as the main character again or a different protagonist.

    4. Ridley

His inclusion is way overdue, and he's one of the last Nintendo All-Stars from the golden age of gaming who has yet to achieve a playable status in SSB. Sakurai has explained that Ridley was too difficult to make despite his team's best effort, so with Namco developing the game and his most recent appearance in Other M, which makes him look less complex to make as a playable character, Ridley's chances have become higher than they were.

    5. Palutena

Like Ridley, she too is one of the last Nintendo All-Stars from the golden age of gaming. Since Sakurai developed Kid Icarus Uprising, he must've also had some moveset ideas for the Goddess of Light if she were playable. Of course, this would mean they'll have to give Pit a new final smash.

    6. Toad

The reason I chose him over Bowser Jr. is because in SSB, non-human Mario characters are given realistic animal noises (excluding Yoshi since he's canonically known to talk in a Pokemon fashion), there aren't any sources from any popular media to give Bowser Jr. realistic baby dragon noises. Plus, Toad is the last character from the Mario Kart 64 roster who has yet to obtain playable status in SSB. He would have some pretty interesting moves involving spores like how fungi are usually known for.

    7. King K. Rool

Unlike Bowser Jr., King K. Rool does indeed have a better chance to enter, because realistic crocodilian snarls do exist in the media. There is one thing I do wonder regarding his inclusion: Will he use his previous modern appearance or that scrapped tribal concept art that's been floating around on the internet?

    8. Unova Trainer

Zoroark is already a failed attempt to recapture the same fame as Lucario, Genesect's status as an event-only Pokemon only makes his chances as high as Dexoys and Darkrai, who were also event-only Pokemon that were suggested to be playable during Brawl's development, and Mewtwo may be coming back as not only a veteran fighter but also a Gen VI rep with his new forme. Apart from using a team of Snivy, Dewott, and Emboar, I also want the Unova Trainer to have the ability to change your gender, in the same way as they did with Zelda and the Ice Climber's select screen, to differentiate from Red, since Leaf isn't canon to the series' storyline. That leaves only one question: Will they use the protagonists from BW1 or the protagonists from BW2?

    9. Mii

Sakurai has confirmed that the 3DS version will allow you to customize your own fighter, and they can be transferred to the Wii U version. Miis perfectly fit the bill for this role, and they can provide ways for players to have a character they want in Smash but didn't (ex: Waluigi, Darth Vader, etc.) in Mii form.

    10. Non-Specific Action Figure

SSB is known to have at least one WTF character on a roster (64: Captain Falcon, Melee: Mr. Game & Watch, Brawl: R.O.B.), and with his rising popularity since E3 2012, Non-Specific Action Figure may be the perfect candidate as a WTF character for SSB4.

Here is my personal Nintendo top 10.

    1. Chrom (Fire Emblem: Awakening): It's kinda an odd choice, but I would like to see Awakening get some love in the SSB Universe, either as a replacement to Ike, or as a brand new stand alone character. I wouldn't mind seeing Lucinda or Your Avatar (Robin)

    2. Sylux (Metroid Prime: Hunters) : Possibly the most infamous of the Hunters from Metroid Prime: Hunters, This would be a much more feasable character to include form the Metroid series then fan-favorite Ridley. This leads the problem that Sylux might just turn into a Samus-clone, but let's face it. There will be clones, there might as well be some good ones.

    3. Tempo (Harmoknight): Tempo would be a perfect "quirky" character to add to the roster, he might be bogged down with gimmiky "rythem" based moves, but so be it. Not every character has to be a top-tear addition.

    4. Dillon (Dillion's Rolling Western): A semi popular 3DS exclusive character that would be a wonderful addition to the roster.

    5. Little Mac (Punchout): He's a given, he's a cult icon that is well loved. Although if he's included I would like to see....

    6. King Hippo, Mr. Dream, or (Insert your favourite Punchout Character): If Little Mac is included it would be a shame to not include won of the wonderfully colorful opposing cast. Almost ANY of them would make a wonderful addition to the game. With SSB seeingly loving their slow villians, King Hippo would be the most likely choice. (I would really like to see Glass Joe myself lololololo)

    7. Tom Nook (Animal Crossing): They have taken characters who have seemingly no skills in combat (Game and Watch, R.O.B.) and give them a spot on the Roster, so why not one of the Animal Crossing Crew, Tom Nook just seems like the most natural choice, he has the most potential for a move set.

    8. MewBuu (Pokemon X and Y): It seems the most logical replacement to the Mewtwo/Lucario Line, and one I would love to see :)

    9. Cackletta (Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga): I reallllly just want a villian who isn't slow or a clone.

    10. Waluigi (Mario Tennis): He's overdue.

First off, I'd have all the characters from the previous games return. Including those who didn't return in Brawl following Melee. Except for maybe Snake, unless new MGS come to Nintendo platforms.

    Then add...

    - From the Super Mario series: Toad, Daisy, Paper Mario, Geno, Koopalings (led by Bowser Jr., ala Pokémon Trainer)
    - From the Yoshi series: Yarn Yoshi, Kamek
    - From the Wario series: Waluigi, Captain Syrup, 9-Volt
    - From the Legend of Zelda series: Toon Zelda, Vaati, Skull Kid, Midna
    - From the Pokémon series: Plusle & Minun, Mew, Pokémon Trainers for all the remaining generations
    - From the Donkey Kong series: Dixie Kong, King K. Rool, Kiddy Kong
    - From the Golden Sun series: Isaac
    - From the Kirby series: Dark Matter, Yarn Kirby
    - From the Metroid series: Ridley
    - From the EarthBound series: Porky, Ninten, Claus
    - From the Star Fox series: Panther, Krystal
    - From the Sonic the Hedgehog series: Knuckles, Tails
    - From the Animal Crossing series: Villager (generic playable character XD)
    - From the Punch-Out!! series: Little Mac, King Hippo
    - From the Bomberman series: Bomberman
    - From the Mega Man series: Mega Man
    - From the Pac-Man series: Pac-Man
    - From the Kid Icarus series: Palutena
    - From the Banjo-Kazooie series: Banjo & Kazooie (hopefully the rumours of Nintendo securing the rights come true :p)
    - From the F-Zero series: Samurai Goroh
    - From the Balloon Fight series: Balloon Fighter
    - From the Captain Rainbow series: Captain Rainbow
    - From the Drill Dozer series: Jill Dozer
    - From the Tales of series: Lloyd Irving (and probably other Tales characters since Namco is working on this game. Lloyd's just an example)
    - From the Pushmo series: Mallo

    Nidorina [/oldjoke]

I admit I've more or less moved on from SSB, as I haven't really felt anything for the series since the one on the N64. Melee nerfed my favorite characters which was a drag, and while Brawl fixed that and promised so much more, something about it didn't click with me except for how awesome Lucas was (and the charming Animal Crossing stage).

I really can't add a non-biased list of characters, nor can I really explain why I'd want them, or if anyone else would even care to see them. So I'll just do this.

Wouldn't mind seeing, if at all:
More Kirby representatives, preferably one of the animal friends/Gooey.
    More Mother/EarthBound reps
    A Panel de Pon rep
    Mega Man rep
    Bomberman rep
    TwinBee rep
I'm gonna just say out and out Classic Sonic
Shantae or someone from WayForward's IPs.

I'd rather not get specific since this isn't really a wish list, so aside from the ones where I'm clearly picking some of them, you can fill in whoever you want from that series, so long as a character from it is in there.

    Classic Sonic would be great.
