The month of May is coming to an end. You know what I like to do at the end of the month by now, don't ya? It's when I look for a Dragon of the Month.
As the summer heat cranks up on my side of the world I want to celebrate with a fire dragon Pokemon. Here's a popular one who needs no introduction. Enter Charizard! Let's highlight Mega Charizard X, the form that made him a true dragon type Pokemon.
Have you ever used Mega Charizard X, and how do you like Mega Charizard X compared to his other forms like Mega Charizard Y or G-Max Charizard?
I haven't used-Gmax Charizard yet because I haven't played Swsh, but I really want to use that pokemon. It looks incredible, so lucky ducky to folks who have one and can tell tales of its greatness.
For now I have only Charizard Y to compare with Charizard X, and I like both. Since I only buy 1 game when there are new releases I had to make a choice, and ended up choosing Pokemon Y over X, and thus getting a Mega Charizard Y first. I was really excited about that mega because I liked it's sleek appearance, thought the design and color scheme was a more subtle and realistic evo for Charizard, and was even more awed by the prospect of it's monstrously high special. Can you believe that it surpasses many legendary Pokemon like dialga and palkia or reshiram? The icing on the cake was the drought ability because I like weather teams and I also do double battles a lot, so I could really work this Pokemon in well. I was also eager to use instantly charged solarbeams thanks to drought for great coverage. Nice to turn the tables on water Pokemon with drought neutralizing it's effectiveness against fire types.
I was still interested in Charizard X though, and in Oras I obtained Charizardite X so I could have both. They're both great Pokemon. Black Pokemon always look stunning, and the touch of blue violet fire is definitely a cool combo and more dramatic-looking. Fire/Dragon is a rarer and more useful typing than fire/flying. This is a dragon that spits in the face of fairy Pokemon and a fire Pokemon that laughs at water Pokemon, weak only to ground, rock and itself-dragon. X has got a little more bulk behind him too with mixed attacking capabilities, and is a more effective dragon dancer sporting a base physical attack as high as Garchomp's with the ability tough claws to boost.
They're hard to compare because they're each such good Pokemon with just different functions. Game Freak shamelessly spoiled us with two amazing megas instead of one like the other Kanto starters. I am happy to get them, but it's not fair I admit :p
Did you watch and XYZ arc the tv series an/or the mega evolution special? If so, what do you think of a certain trainer and his Charizard X?
Alain is one of the best rivals that Ash has ever had, probably he is my favorite after N. Alain has a great design, determined and enigmatic personality, interesting backstory, and powerful team of pokemon that make him a really worthy opponent. The animation is at its best in XY, and I really enjoyed the battles in the Lumiose Conference where his Charizard shines. His love for Mairin is also really endearing. I adore the mega evolution special.
Charizard and his mega-evolution has made several appearances. Have you watched Pokemon Origins?
Yes, I really liked Origins too. I only wish it was a longer series, like at least each gym battle deserved it's own episode. But I think it's a really dramatic series and the animation is beautiful and expressive. It was fun getting to have a spry little Charmander as Red's sidekick, and watching this Pokemon grow into dedicated and mighty Charizard. The music is really great in the series, and seeing Charizard become Mega Charizard X was a climatic ending.
Now for an age old question, which is the best... Charizard, Venusaur or Blastoise?
I like all three of the Kanto starters. I will never turn down a Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander. It's my favorite set of starters, closely followed by the Hoenn. The Charizard line is my favorite though.
I think Charmander is just so cute with those big sparkly eyes, that excitable manner and it's eternally burning tail. It's a fun Pokemon like Totodile. Ash's memorable Charizard in the anime probably has something to do with my warm memories of this Pokemon. How Ash got it pulls at the heartstrings, an abandoned Pokemon who blindly loves and trusts his trainer, and almost dies waiting out in the storm for it to return.

Then he evolves into this colorful character who got up to so much mischief and lost Ash important battles and bullied him and the other Pokemon, before maturing and becoming a good friendly Dragon again. There are so many memorable and suspenseful battles where Charizard was at Ash's side like the showdown with Blaine's Magmar in season 1, the advanced battle factory duel against Noland's Articuno and his appearance in the Spell of the Unknown, one of my all-time favorite Pokemon movies.
Charizard wasn't the strongest Pokemon back in the RBY games, but I didn't care because this Pokemon had so much charisma that I always wanted to use him when I could despite the challenge, and we always overcame. This pokemon was buffed step by step over the years, and now it is truly as powerful as it is portrayed in the anime, and one of the best.
