I was about to ask why Exeggcute was on the list but then remembered that for some bizarre ass reason Game Freak made Alolan Exeggutor part Dragon

Speaking of giveaways, I could possibly help with some one day...I have loads of HA HA Dragons (surprised? Look at my name🤷*♂️), including Solar Power Charmander (which I don't and would not recommend. ), Unburden Treecko, Rough Skin Gibble, Marvel Scale Extreme Speed Dratini, and probably a good bit of others.

Arbok could be a great Poison Dragon type. Mainly because he could REALLY use some kind of upgrade and boost. Just make him into some kind of serpent that's more Draconic than Snake like...something to do with "evolves with a Dragon type in the party...", like he eventually adapts and changes over time as part of years of living around different species until he eventually essentially BECOMES integrated as one of them.

Just started Ultra Moon the other day with tons of great stuff, easily my favorite group ever.

I would be honored to have your help DragonKing. You have a stellar collection. Also just trading would be awesome too.

Unburden Treeko is one that I don't think I have and wouldn't mind adding to my collection. The pokemon we have seem to overlap a lot so I am not sure If I have something new to offer you in return. Some I have that I didn't see mentioned and you might want are sheer force bagon (for moxie salamence) adaptability skrelp and harvest exeggcute. I believe I have shiny noibat and trapinch too, not hidden ability.

You also talked about lot of cool pokemon in the dragon and monster egg group with draconic characteristics. I have a lot of those, some with their hidden ability or in the shiny form. Hit me up if I can help. I also just love to get new friend codes.

I am still imagining that steel/dragon Aerodactyl and how awesome that would be. Your rooster for Ultra Moon is amazing btw.

-Sam

Yeah Ultra Moon so far is really fun and literally the best group yet with no comparison. Grassy Terrain with Treecko is something I've never used before so it's interesting indeed. Just got to the first big Kahuna fight with Hala, so I guess I need to get Noibat. Even Goomy is great, which says everything...never thought I'd be praising that guy lol, but I was able to pretty much just defeat Hau with only him, he's been one shotting, AND I've been leading off with him.

Just got Flaaffy, Grovyle, and one Chameleon. I'm not sure which Treecko and Chameleon evolved; but nonetheless, I won't be getting any more evolutions for a good bit so that's bound to be helpful.

What else though...if I already stated them or not-I have:

HA Gible,
Druddigon
Goomy
Treecko
Charmander
Dratini

And maybe some others.

Some of these I will say are counter productive when weighed against their originals- Solar Power Charmander- Drains Health but increases Special Attack? Ummm no thank you. Mold Breaker Druddigon, useful but probably not easy to set up every time- Where as Rough Skin just knocks the opponent back every time they physically attack you...ESPECIALLY paired with Rough Skin Gibble.

Unburden Treecko is very simple to set up I suppose, hold a berry, take a hit, eat the berry, gain speed and therefore come back and finish it.

Goomy has overall very helpful abilties- Hydration, Sap Sipper, and Gooey.

Heals conditions in Rain, immune to Grass and heals from it, and slows the opponent for each physical hit they make on you, respectively.

Dratini and Marvel Scale are outstanding. One of the best HA Dragon abilities I've seen yet. It allows a strong Dragonite later game, to withstand super effective Fairy and even double Ice moves and come back and finish it-Reduces damage at full health-So it's either a one time buff, or if you manage to heal it can be pulled off again and again-....which I personally just realized.

If I didn't already mention it before-imagine a Steel Dragon type Aggron. Pair all those resistances with Aggron's already HIGHEST OF ALL IN EXISTENCE Defense...and you've got a destructive tank with hard hitting offense...

One of my favorite Day Dreams right there lol...

Iron Tail, Dragon Claw, Iron Head, Metal Claw, Sharp Strike, Mach Punch, Dragon Tail, Heavy Slam, Gyro Ball, Outrage.

I'm thinking he wouldn't be as powerful in Special Attack, but I guess it could be, and then you could see Draco Meteor and Dragon Pulse too.

Put wings on the whole line and Steel Wing as well.

Aerodactyl could be a lot of the same. Dragon Claw, Steel Wing, Iron Head, Iron Tail. Fly and Air Cutter for the Fighting coverage.

I wanted to answer the previous question:

My favourite dinosaur would have to be a stegosaurus! I always loved the look of it — the mighty spikes on its back, and its tail. I also love the Triceratops! I also think it looks really cool; and I always liked studying the herbivore dinosaurs.

With April's topic question being favorite dinosaurs I think that a fitting DRAGON OF THE MONTH to follow would be the Tyrunt line? Rawr!

[PokeCommunity.com] Dragon Ascent: A Dragon Lover's Club

Let's talk about the T-Rex dragon pokemon Tyrunt and Tantrum, the first dragon pokemon fossils. Give me your thoughts on them!

[PokeCommunity.com] Dragon Ascent: A Dragon Lover's Club

These Pokemon gives me some digimon vibe a little like Druddigon does, but I would say Tyrantrum seems like a more advanced version. The pre-evolution is a cute, spry tyke and the final form looks masculine and appropriately draconian. Dragon/rock is a unique, interesting combo that i'd be interested in seeing more Pokemon with.

I think Tyrantrum is a bit underrated. It has very good stats on the physical side. He seems a little predictable and basic, the kind of Pokemon you throw a choice scarf on and try to do as much damage as you can with or die, but the moves he has access to I think are impressive, so much raw power and coverage like earthquake, the monstrous stab 150 base power head smash with no recoil thanks to his ability rock head. His other ability strong jaw is nothing to sneeze at either, powering up all the biting moves 50%, making his crunch a 120 base power.

Did you choose the jaw fossil or sail fossil during your playthrough of xy? If you haven't played would you choose the jaw fossil to get Tyrunt?

I actually chose the sail fossil! I think Tyrunt is cool too though, and later traded to get a Tyrunt so I could complete the duo of Tyrunt and Amaura.

Kalos has far and away my favorite set of fossil pokemon out of any generation. This was a case where the player was given two pokemon lines that have very strong designs yet are totally different, contrasting like their night and day evolution themes, but both appealing in their own way. One dinosaur who inspires ferocious strength and the other who inspires mysterious beauty.

Where does Tyrantrum rank for you among the other fossil Pokemon of previous and future generations?

High. I prefer Tyrunt/Tyrantrum over the Unova, Sinnoh and Hoenn fossils, and while I haven't played through the Galar region yet, just design-wise I prefer Tyrantrum. I'm a little partial to the Kanto fossils for nostalgia, but in all fairness Tyrantrum is a more viable Pokemon.

I think it has earned it's place as the Dragon of the Month. This Pokemon is inspired by perhaps the most iconic dinosaur of all, T-Rex, and everybody respects the Tyrant Lizard King.

Fun Fact: While Tyrantrum's name is taken from Tyrannosaurus Rex, this Pokemon has attributes of another dinosaur that predates T-Rex, Cryolophosaurus who sorts a brightly-colored crest on it's head like our boy.

Tyrantrum is great-flat out amazing. He's one of my best, with great speed and physical attack, and monster defense to ensure he lasts. Iron Head, Crunch, Rock Slide and Dragon Claw. He's very very useful for taking down every Ghost and Psychic he can get his teeth on, Strong Jaw+ Crunch stops just about everything weak against it in one shot every time.

He takes down Flying and Fire with no problem as well, and I've also always wished Araurus was Ice /Dragon as well instead so they'd be more of the perfect pair instead of counterparts- Ice and Dragon is also another typing that needs more of. Kyurem is so late game and higher leveled.

Tyrantrum is without question my favorite fossil, and that ability is so beneficial. Pretty good alternate color with the shiny too.

There may be some Dragons with higher all around stats than him, such as the big 5 and Legendaries, but that's because he doesn't even need them because he fits his role just fine with his given stats. There's not many that are more useful and more a necessity than he is for all Dragon teams-I mean, I'm the king, I'd know. 😎

Tyrantrum is actually one of the few where I'd take standard Ability over HA...I mean that's a great boost but Strong Jaw and he basically becomes the terminator to Psychic and Ghost with Crunch...80 Base I believe, then double that from SE damage, then add on the additional boost? No one will survive lmao...plus not to mention I've never really used all the additional Fang moves he has access to...

I found fun video featuring an attempt to recreate the sound of a T-Rex, speaking of Tyrantrum.

It's not the trumpet-like roar you might have heard from movies like the Jurassic Park series, but it's still interesting in it's own way. If Tyrannosaurus Rex made this low frequency sound then it is what I would call ominous and eerie like a growl resonating in a cave, rather than the pure terror of a deafening roar.

Let me know what you guys think of this dinosaur fan's reconstruction?

The month of May is coming to an end. You know what I like to do at the end of the month by now, don't ya? It's when I look for a Dragon of the Month.

As the summer heat cranks up on my side of the world I want to celebrate with a fire dragon Pokemon. Here's a popular one who needs no introduction. Enter Charizard! Let's highlight Mega Charizard X, the form that made him a true dragon type Pokemon.

[PokeCommunity.com] Dragon Ascent: A Dragon Lover's Club
[PokeCommunity.com] Dragon Ascent: A Dragon Lover's Club

Have you ever used Mega Charizard X, and how do you like Mega Charizard X compared to his other forms like Mega Charizard Y or G-Max Charizard?

I haven't used-Gmax Charizard yet because I haven't played Swsh, but I really want to use that pokemon. It looks incredible, so lucky ducky to folks who have one and can tell tales of its greatness.

For now I have only Charizard Y to compare with Charizard X, and I like both. Since I only buy 1 game when there are new releases I had to make a choice, and ended up choosing Pokemon Y over X, and thus getting a Mega Charizard Y first. I was really excited about that mega because I liked it's sleek appearance, thought the design and color scheme was a more subtle and realistic evo for Charizard, and was even more awed by the prospect of it's monstrously high special. Can you believe that it surpasses many legendary Pokemon like dialga and palkia or reshiram? The icing on the cake was the drought ability because I like weather teams and I also do double battles a lot, so I could really work this Pokemon in well. I was also eager to use instantly charged solarbeams thanks to drought for great coverage. Nice to turn the tables on water Pokemon with drought neutralizing it's effectiveness against fire types.

I was still interested in Charizard X though, and in Oras I obtained Charizardite X so I could have both. They're both great Pokemon. Black Pokemon always look stunning, and the touch of blue violet fire is definitely a cool combo and more dramatic-looking. Fire/Dragon is a rarer and more useful typing than fire/flying. This is a dragon that spits in the face of fairy Pokemon and a fire Pokemon that laughs at water Pokemon, weak only to ground, rock and itself-dragon. X has got a little more bulk behind him too with mixed attacking capabilities, and is a more effective dragon dancer sporting a base physical attack as high as Garchomp's with the ability tough claws to boost.

They're hard to compare because they're each such good Pokemon with just different functions. Game Freak shamelessly spoiled us with two amazing megas instead of one like the other Kanto starters. I am happy to get them, but it's not fair I admit :p

Did you watch and XYZ arc the tv series an/or the mega evolution special? If so, what do you think of a certain trainer and his Charizard X?
[PokeCommunity.com] Dragon Ascent: A Dragon Lover's Club

Alain is one of the best rivals that Ash has ever had, probably he is my favorite after N. Alain has a great design, determined and enigmatic personality, interesting backstory, and powerful team of pokemon that make him a really worthy opponent. The animation is at its best in XY, and I really enjoyed the battles in the Lumiose Conference where his Charizard shines. His love for Mairin is also really endearing. I adore the mega evolution special.

Charizard and his mega-evolution has made several appearances. Have you watched Pokemon Origins?

[PokeCommunity.com] Dragon Ascent: A Dragon Lover's Club

Yes, I really liked Origins too. I only wish it was a longer series, like at least each gym battle deserved it's own episode. But I think it's a really dramatic series and the animation is beautiful and expressive. It was fun getting to have a spry little Charmander as Red's sidekick, and watching this Pokemon grow into dedicated and mighty Charizard. The music is really great in the series, and seeing Charizard become Mega Charizard X was a climatic ending.

Now for an age old question, which is the best... Charizard, Venusaur or Blastoise?

I like all three of the Kanto starters. I will never turn down a Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander. It's my favorite set of starters, closely followed by the Hoenn. The Charizard line is my favorite though.

I think Charmander is just so cute with those big sparkly eyes, that excitable manner and it's eternally burning tail. It's a fun Pokemon like Totodile. Ash's memorable Charizard in the anime probably has something to do with my warm memories of this Pokemon. How Ash got it pulls at the heartstrings, an abandoned Pokemon who blindly loves and trusts his trainer, and almost dies waiting out in the storm for it to return.

[PokeCommunity.com] Dragon Ascent: A Dragon Lover's Club
Then he evolves into this colorful character who got up to so much mischief and lost Ash important battles and bullied him and the other Pokemon, before maturing and becoming a good friendly Dragon again. There are so many memorable and suspenseful battles where Charizard was at Ash's side like the showdown with Blaine's Magmar in season 1, the advanced battle factory duel against Noland's Articuno and his appearance in the Spell of the Unknown, one of my all-time favorite Pokemon movies.

Charizard wasn't the strongest Pokemon back in the RBY games, but I didn't care because this Pokemon had so much charisma that I always wanted to use him when I could despite the challenge, and we always overcame. This pokemon was buffed step by step over the years, and now it is truly as powerful as it is portrayed in the anime, and one of the best.

[PokeCommunity.com] Dragon Ascent: A Dragon Lover's Club

Yeah, definitely got plenty of love for Charizard X , and always enjoy using him because as you said, undoubtedly a very use and helpful great combination, just sucks he's always essentially "locked " until post game lol. I've actually been using the shiny one I have...and you know what? That green and red Dragon is REALLY fresh and innovative compared to the standard black and blue style...which is wonderful in itself...I'll probably actually end up just switching them back and forth and use both.

As great as tough claws+Fire Punch /Iron Tail is...Drought sounds really nice as a Charizard ability...if not for the *only one Mega evolution in one battle* (which also means if your ass is kicked...you can't revive and come back in the mega form!) , it would be really cool to pair with Mega Sceptile and blast Solar Beams.

I initially of course got X to go with Charizard X years ago, and it what a glorious moment it was to finally see the proper ascension to Dragon Type!

Part of me hopes for a permanent dragon type one day...which has kind of gotten the wheels turning into "what IS the Dragon type and Why, and and what has the same characteristics and traits but ISN'T the Dragon type and should be."

Stay tuned for that. Pro-Dragon Rant coming. 😉

Charizard X is wonderful. Focus Blast, Earthquake, Solar Beam, Thunder Punch, Iron Tail, Outrage, and Fly are just some of the many possibilities of Ultra (see what I did there) powered moves he is capable of coupled with crushing offensive stats.

Whoops I've missed a lot.
Anyways, I really love Tyrantrum! It's not my favourite fossil or anything but I'd say it's high up there (behind Archeops and the Galar fossils). I find it neat it's designed by the same guy who also illustrated Mega Man. I think I chose the Jaw Fossil, not sure. I do have a Tyrunt plushie though.

Also, Rock Head > Strong Jaw, not a lot of Pokémon like switching into Head Smash (especially banded) and in Gen 6 that was the reason it was banned from RU.

As for Charizard, I'm mostly neutral about it, I'm probably tired of the over exposure but I also cannot hate because it is a dragon with a tail on fire. All the forms are viable though; X is a solid dragon dancer with a near unresisted type combination and it can run a defensive set too, Y is an excellent wallbreaker thanks to Drought and can run Fire Blast, Solar Beam, Focus Blast, and Roost, and G-Max can be terrifying under Sun and can run an unorthodox Belly Drum set. Y was my main game too but I also had X so I did have the chance to breed for a competitive Zard X.

I watched both XYZ (mostly) and Origins and they were nice. They definitely portrayed Charizard as a tough Pokémon.

I'm not sure about my favourite Kanto starter because I'm going to be honest, I'm just losing interest in a lot of the Gen 1 Pokémon, however I think it's Venusaur just because it's a unique take of a toad.

Both of my Charizard have

Fire Punch
Iron Tail
Dragon Claw
-And one has Dragon Pulse and the other Inferno...so I've been debating what to change Inferno for...There's Giga Impact...Solar Beam...Focus Blast...

Dragon Claw will definitely become Outrage at some point...dang Move Tutors!

Now as stated...here is a thought about GF and "what constitutes a Dragon Pokemon and what doesn't and how little sense and thought there is."

Haxorus, Tyrantrum, Mega Sceptile- Obviously giant lizard/Reptilian Dinosaurs- Dragons.

Amaura/Aurorus, Tyranitar, Scrafty-Obviously Giant Lizard/Reptilian Dinosaurs--Not Dragons.

Kommo-O, Palkia, Giratina and Dialga-Giant Lizard Reptilian Dinosaurs- Dragon.

Groudon-Probably even legitimately the SAME TYPE of Dinosaur Kommo-O is based off- Ankylosaurus, Not Dragon.

Feraligatr- GIANT REPTILE DINOSAUR LIZARD. Not Dragon. See the trend here?

Rayquaza- Giant Serpent Dragon.

Gyarados, Milotic-Giant Serpent-to a lesser extent Arbok and Seviper- Who SOMEHOW ended up in the Dragon egg group...(Scrafty too)...Not Dragon.

Zygarde 50 percent- Literally giant king cobra serpent dragon-Dragon.

Serperior- Literally giant serpent- Not Dragon.

Guzzlord- Giant Garbage compactor Alien Monster- Dragon. Excusable because he's from another world where things differ I suppose.

Alolan Exeggutor is simply a play on "Dragonfruit Tree ", so whatever.

No one really knows what Nidoking is, seemingly some sort of Rhino/gorilla hybrid on steroids, but he could almost be called Dinosaur like. I'm admittedly slightly reaching there...but man how great would Poison/Dragon Nidoking be?

Aggron entire line- Giant Dinosaur reptile lizards- Not Dragon.

Now, this is absolutely a fan list full of bias, and also disappointment at missed opportunities, and I'm not saying "Make EVERYTHING Dragon AHAHAHAHA!". What am I saying is, because of this flip-flop, back and forth, mix and match of typings and classifications based purely on looks and designs...

We lost out on /missed out on, toooons of great possible Dragons. Aerodactyl and Amaura/ Aurorus are the most obvious head scratchers, when put alongside Tyrantrum and Tyrunt who are obviously : Dinosaur equals Dragon...and the bigger overarcing thing is, there's a good bit of Dragons now, looking back to Gens 1, 2, and even 3, but there's not always a ton of variation nor mixture or options to go with.

Dragon Monotype hm? Take Kingdra or Palkia for Water. Both are either later game/borderline later game, not to mention the Dragon Scale is almost ALWAYS post -game, and Palkia is gonna be just about guaranteed level 50 at least.

I'm not looking at SWSHD whatever the Water Dragon Fossil is because I've never played it-but another clear cut case of the above even.

Fire? You have Mega X or Reshiram, again late game/Post game, and higher Level guaranteed. And Turtonator. Turtonator. Couldn't we have made him a 3 stage Pseudo? They do a one stage Dragon and that's what happens.

Electric? Mega Ampharos or Zekrom....and there's a trend here...

Grass? Exeggcutor or Mega Sceptile...awh wait...

Ghost? Giratina or Dragapult line, who I've heard are even worse than waiting for Hydreigon. Zwelious isn't bad, just lackluster when you're surrounded by Garchomp, Salamence, Latios and Latias, Dragonite and company still going and going.

Poison? I don't really have a ton of bad to say, since they're strong against AND resist Fairy...but Dragalge and Nagandel are both extensive to get, with no middle stages, therefore will always be a bit behind others, and don't even gain the Dragon typing until evolution.

Steel- Dialga may be the single greatest Dragon for Fairy and Ice counters are out there, let alone being only weak to Ground and Fighting, which can be taken down to just fighting with Magnet Rise or Air Balloon, but the King Of Time stands alone practically. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I use him, but I've heard Duruladon isn't the most well rounded bang for your buck, Viable Dragon. Druddigon with his "harder than stone and steel" face and body would be the perfect gap filler here and I'm hoping we see a Galarian version of just that soon.

Rock is only Tyrantrum. Great ability which allows him to obliterate Psychic and Ghosts and basically anything weak to Fire, Ice, Poison and Electric probably with his fang moves, very niche with many possibilities ...but as the only Rock Dragon, I'll never understand how this was chosen as Dragon and other Fossils weren't.

Dragon and Flying are different stories with several possibilities...but you won't see them until late game and there's no other options. Dragonite- 55 and only then and only then gains Flying. Salamence-50 and then gains flying. Altaria- Special and defensive oriented. Noibat- All speed and not very useful. Noivern- All Speed and Special Attack and can't take shots.

Rayquaza- Yeah you already know.

Ground- Garchomp and the line, not a single bad thing to say really. Flygon is the often overlooked and slightly younger brother. Who gets WORSE when evolving from Trapinch to Vibrava btw.

Ice-Could have been boosted by Aurorus line.

Fighting- Kommo-O is exactly what we all needed and something that sealed my decision to play Gen 7 in the first place. Rock, Normal everywhere. Enter a Fighting Dragon type. Only took 20 years. Not accessible to early on and must hit 38 or so to gain the typing as well. Scrafty and a middle stage could have helped.

Psychic- Latios and Latias are excellent, so fast and hard hitting full of endless move combinations. I always make a thing of usually using both together whenever I have them with me.

If I missed any, let me know and we'll discuss those as well.

Closing point being, huge missed opportunities to really broaden the field here and it really wouldn't have been that hard nor complex. I don't get paid for this stuff. They do and it's their careers. I also really dislike their seemingly focused points of keeping Dragons to a short list.

Infiltrating this thread with magic Fairy powers because nothing you can do can hurt me. >:] BWAHAHAHAHA
