OOC: Now you tell me. Tsk, well, I don't feel like flip-flopping between names so I'll just keep Darkrazor. It sounds more sinister anyway. ^^
Oh, and by the way; I'm using the {} notation to indicate pok?mon speech. Hope that's okay.
IC:
Meanwhile, right by the cottage of a hospitable, if rather eccentric, old lady who had chosen a rather curious spot for her home, right next to the greatest, and only, desert in Hoenn, a young male, about fifteen in age, stepped outside, stretching his joints as he let out a wide yawn, stepping out of the building, a Ninetales following in his footsteps in a distinctly timid manner, like a dog following its master out of duty but expecting to be smacked with a rolled up newspaper at any given moment.
The male turned around to watch his pok?mon, giving it a tired smile as he forced a few stray strands of unruly black hair further beneath the red baseball cap he wore on his head.
"Good morning Kaika" he said, smiling as he slowly stroked the fire type's soft fur, feeling its warm body quiver ever so slightly under his touch, the fox pok?mon's eyes darting to the boy's other glove-covered hand before returning back to the ground, their owner letting out a small whimpering noise. "Don't tell me you're still thinking about that..."
The Ninetales whimpered slightly again, nodding its head.
The boy gave his pok?mon a tired smile, shaking his head as he stroked the fire type's fur once more "I already told you that it's allright, I forgive you. Okay? I know it could have been bad, but I'm fine now. You don't need to fret about it..."
"taalee..." Kaika replied, slowly raising his eyes from the ground but still refusing to look into his trainer's dark brown pair.
The boy gave a tired sigh, noting that his pok?mon was still far from getting over the incident. He really needed to get his mind onto other matters, the chilly weather was bad enough without a melancholic fox pok?mon to drag the mood down.
"Say, I haven't introduced you to the rest of them yet, have I?" he asked after a pause, his face lighting up as he turned to gaze at his surroundings.
The Ninetales shook his head in response.
"Well, it's about time then." the boy replied cheerfully, placing the middle and index fingers of his right hand into his mouth and releasing a shrill whistle into the air. Soon enough, a Bayleef came lumbering from the berry plantations nearby, a pleasant smile encrusted on its face and a very energetic looking Butterfree circling around it in the air. Meanwhile, a strangely scruffy looking Flaaffy came walking out of the house, casting an indignant look at his surroundings. And finally, a Sneasel leapt elegantly down from a nearby tree, leaning back against the wall and watching the newcomer with a completely neutral, and somewhat bored expression on its face.
"Okay guys..." the boy said, raising his hands into the air and taking a moment to get all of the pok?mon's attention. "This is Kaika." he gestured towards the Ninetales "Kaika, meet the gang; this is Pico." he gestured towards the Butterfree who flapped its way over to the fire type and performed and performed a bow-like motion in the air.
{Hi! Hi!} the Butterfree squeaked, smiling at Kaika in a friendly manner, excitement evident in his expression. {Nice to meet you!}
{...likewise...} the Ninetales replied a tad anxiously, bowing to the bug type, a gesture which caused a slight flicker of amusement to cross over the Sneasel's face.
"And this is Herb." the boy continued, gesturing towards the Bayleef, who nodded at the Ninetales in front of it.
{Welcome to the group.} she said calmly, with all the experience of one who had been there before.
Kaika now bowed to the Bayleef, unsure of what to say but smiling in thanks nonetheless.
"This is Blackrazor." the boy continued, this time gesturing towards the Sneasel.
{What's up?} the Sneasel asked, nodding in acknowledgement.
{Erm...excuse me?} Kaika asked nervously, clearly unfamiliar with the dark type's way of speaking, but bowing to it as well.
{It's just his way to say 'hi'.} Pico said helpfully, chuckling at the Sneasel's expression of cool indiference.
"And this is-" the boy said at last, now gesturing towards the Flaaffy, although his sentence was cut short by the electric type as it took a stride forward.
{Jolt.} he said in a defensive tone, {And I'm all man.}
{Erm, right...} the Ninetales replied, bowing {Pleasure to meet you-}
{Yup, all man.} the Flaaffy repeated, seeming to be trying to convince himself of the statement more than anyone else {I'm an electric type.} he added {Yup, manly, virile type, electric, zap a grown man into paralysis like no-one's bussiness, absolutely nothing femmy about that.}
{Erm,} Kaika began uncertainly {what are you-?}
{Don't even start about the colour.} the Flaaffy interrupted once more, glaring sternly at the Ninetales {I ain't pink! I'm magenta! Yeah! Magenta, strong manly colour, absolutely nothing femmy about it. And anyway, it's not like you've got any room to talk, flame-boy!}
{Look!} Kaika began, now beginning to grow irritated with the electric type's attitude {What is your problem-?}
{Relax kid...} the Sneasel said, slowly rising into a standing position and flicking of a speck of dirt from his pelt before turning to watch Jolt, a malicious glint in his eyes, {He's obviously overcompensating for something...}
{Say what?!} the electric type replied, his fury building as he turned to face the Sneasel, {Are you picking a fight? I'm warning you...I may be on the smallish side but I can kick any butt here! You want a piece of me?!}
{Now would be a good time to step back...} Pico whispered, discreetly pulling Kaika away from the two as Blackrazor retorted.
{If I had a piece of your suggary-sweet persona...} he replied drawlingly {I'd probably be prancing gaily through the flower fields by next spring. I think I'll pass...}
{Sugary Sweet?!} Jolt shouted, electricity building up in his fleece as he brandished his fists at the Sneasel, {Say that again and I'll Thunderpunch you to kingdom come!}
{Oh I'm so scared...} the Sneasel replied in a sarcastic tone {That soft, fluffy fleece of yours is simply too intimidating...}
The dark type watched with complete calm as Jolt grew even more agitated, the colour of his Flaaffy face shifting from pink to a very dark shade of red. He looked just about ready to go through with his treath when an old lady suddenly burst out from the house, apparently awoken by the noise.
"Oh, are you up already dearie?" she asked, turning to adress the boy, "Oh you young whippersnappers...always on the go. Your pok?mon still look tired, though." she added, gesturing at Jolt who was heaving very deep breaths in his anger, Herb standing by him and attempting to calm him down while Blackrazor continued leering tauntingly at the Flaaffy and Pico and Kaika did their best to stay out of the situation. "Maybe you should take another rest?" the woman suggested "Yes, that would be a good idea."
"Erm, no thanks." the boy replied, shaking his head and raising his right hand to emphasise the sentence "I've already been resting here for almost a day now and my folks over at Slateport are waiting for me. I really need to get going..."
"Well, if you say so..." the woman replied in a slightly dissapointed voice, "There's no need to be shy about it." with that, she returned to her house, leaving the boy and his pok?mon outside.
"You do look a little tired, Jolt." the boy noted, seemingly oblivious to the conflict that had taken place "Come back for a while." he pulled out one of the pok?balls on his belt and returned the still furious electric type into it before it could raise its voice in protest.
{Walking...} Blackrazor said disdainfully {I think I'll pass...} he walked over to his trainer, promptly dissapearing into his own pok?ball as well.
"Well, anyone else want to travel in their pok?ball?" the boy asked, turning to face his remaining three pok?mon.
{No way!} Pico squeaked, fluttering about a bit more energetically {I ain't going into no stinking pok?ball unless it's absolutely necessary!}
{I'll stay outside too...} Herb replied, shaking her head firmly.
{I...guess I will stay outside as well...} Kaika said after a pause.
"Well, suit yourselves." the boy said, lifting up his backpack, a fairly nondescript brown one with various pockets for storing different items, properly onto his back and beginning to walk down the route towards the Fiery Path, but taking a turn in the other direction at the crossroads instead.
"Right you guys." he said, rummaging in his pack until he came across a pair of go-goggles and placed them on his head to shield him from the constant sandstorm, "We're going to have to shortcut through the desert if we want to make it. Are you sure you don't want to come in?"
Pico looked hesitant for a moment but then braced himself, shaking his head firmly in response. Herb didn't seem like she was about to budge anywhere either, standing steadfastly by his trainer's side, ready to follow. Kaika, although obviously not as confident as his fellows, seemed to succumb to peer pressure, nodding and following the others with slight trepidation.
{Don't worry...} Herb said soothingly, falling in step with the Ninetales {I'll shield you both as we go. The sandstorm won't hurt you as long as we stick together.}
{Thank you...miss Herb.} Kaika replied, smiling in gratitude once more.
{Miss Herb?} the Bayleef replied, chuckling in amusement {Oh there's no need to be formal Kaika, please, just call me Herb.}
{Yes Herb.} the Ninetales replied hastily, still sounding rather insecure.
"Come on guys." the boy said, waving to his pok?mon in an attempt to make them move a bit faster as he turned to face the roaring sandstorm that always seemed to prevail within the desert. "It's time to go."
Oh, and by the way; I'm using the {} notation to indicate pok?mon speech. Hope that's okay.
