Hello everybody! We're back again with a preview of the the 2.1 update (releasing March 10th)

➤ We're doing another batch of early route reworks! Say goodbye to the Wet Walkways, the Floral Rest, and the Jungle Path. In their stead we'll have 3 new maps with unique concepts. A new river delta map will be placed where the floral rest once was:
    Pokémon Tectonic

➤ Developer Divock has been hitting the ground running with custom animations for our new moves. He's finished over 10 so far, including an epic animation for Haerobic's signature move "Hare Heroics"!

➤ All Hisuian forms have been implemented, alongside new signature moves and abilities. How will you acquire them? You'll have to find "Origin Ore" while exploring Makya. [A new NPC in Grouz can transmute this ore into any of the 5 Hisuian base forms (seen below). You can also use the ore to evolve non-Hisuian pokemon into their unique Hisuian evolutions, if they're above a certain level threshold. For example, Stantler can now evolve into Wyrdeer if you use an Origin Ore on it above level 33.

For anyone who has completed most or all of a playthrough on 2.0, we'd really appreciate if you filled out our playtester survey. The information we get from this survey is invaluable for improving the game!

    Today's preview theme is "shiny"!

➤ We're making heavy progress on the miniature versions of the Regi Dungeons. Come 2.1, you'll be able to experience their aesthetics, get a small taste of their puzzles, and finally be able to capture the Regis themselves! Update 2.1 will also come with new signature moves and abilities for all 5 of the legendary golems. Here's a look at the shiniest Regi dungeon, the "Mirror Tundra.":
    Pokémon Tectonic

➤ A new NPC (found near the entrance to Prizca West) can take a Gleam Powder and a hefty fee to turn one of your Pokemon shiny! No longer will Gleam Powder's go unused because you already caught the Pokemon you'd want to make shiny!

➤ A new regional form is coming... well, two actually! Makyan Wurmple will be able to evolve into either a snowflake Beautifly, or a rocket-propelled Dustox!
    Pokémon Tectonic

We're still on schedule to release Pokemon Tectonic 2.1 on March 10th. We hope to see you there!

Here's a preview of some new features and changing coming to Pokémon Tectonic 2.2, releasing May 5th.

    Unique Tribal Bonuses
Each of the 22 different tribes will be the proud owner of a unique bonus! For example, Scavenger increases the efficacy of your gems and berries, while Stampede causes your Pokémon to take less damage on turns they're attacking. Accompanying this is a change that'll mean even the Pokémon on your team that don't fit into a tribe will still get any bonuses your overall team qualifies for. We've also reworked the bonuses screen to be much more clear about which bonuses you have or are near to qualifying for.
    Pokémon Tectonic

And made a splash that appears when bonuses activate!
    Pokémon Tectonic

    AI Improvements
    A smattering of them:
    • The AI will now account for its own abilities and items that have on-hit effects, as well as those of the player (but only after they activate at least once.) For example, after seeing your Ferrothorn's Iron Barbs activate, the AI will be less enthusiastic to hit it with physical moves (especially multi-hit ones!). Conversely, the AI will be more enthusiastic to use physical moves if it knows it can activate its own Poison Touch.
    • The AI should also now understand how Magic Bounce/Magic Shield interact with moves like Spikes which target a side rather than a specific Pokémon.
    • The AI should now be much less excited to switch into Pokémon that would take a lot of damage from hazards.

    Multiple Abilities/items at Once?!
We've completed a huge update to our codebase that means its now possible for Pokémon to have more than one ability or item at the same time. I'm really excited about this feature, but we're not going to use it lightly. We're definitely going to use it to make some Avatars and Curses more interesting! We're also going to make some signature abilities that enable holding multiple items under some conditions.
    Pokémon Tectonic

Last not but least, an Ice Princess will be joining us for 2.2!

its working perfectly fine for any other windows player i hear playing it, if you are getting the typical "windows is thinking this could be a virus" nonsense, its perfectly fine, you can freely run it without issue there as like i just stated myself and a good 5 or 6 other close friends of mine scattered across a few discord servers all run windows and play it without issue

2.2 is coming May 5th. Here's another update on what is going to be included!

    New Move Animations
We've added a bajillion new moves in Pokémon Tectonic, and most of them use animations that were meant for canon moves. We've made due using these animations despite many of them being....not so fitting. Divock, our resident move animator, is working hard to fix this problem! Click here to see an album of 8 of the moves getting a facelift in 2.2.

    Style Value Editor Changes
Editing style values is much more convenient than grinding EVs. Still, it can be made even more convenient! The Style Value Editing Screen has been tweaked so that you can see the name of which Pokemon you are modifying as well as see the "Effective HP" values the Pokémon will end up with. A "quick set" feature has also been added, where pressing your Action key (Z by default) will open a menu to select from some very common style value arrangements.
    Pokémon Tectonic

    New Pokéballs
We've added five new Poké Balls, 4 of which do things if they fail to capture the wild Pokémon:

    • Slice Ball: Hurts them for 1/4th of their max HP
    • Potion Ball: Heals them for 1/4th of their max HP
    • Leech Ball: Leeches them
    • Disable Ball: Disable their most recent move for 10 turns

We hope these balls add a strategic edge to certain situations! The fifth ball, however, eschews strategic usefulness entirely: The "Royal Ball" is half as strong as a regular Poké Ball, but has a very striking purple appearance! Catching a legendary Pokémon in one of those is a surefire way to flex on other trainers.

    New Regional Forms
Speaking of royal...presenting their majesties, Makyan Goldeen and Seaking! Design by Drawingbox and sprites by Jaggedthorn.

any chances we could see a nerf to thunder belly in the next update? its power combined with its risk feels a bit too steep if it were to be changed any i would say a downgrade to 150BP with only 50% recoil while still letting it do aoe damage should be more than sufficient, that way its still a strong signature move but not with a risk that makes it less of a death wish waiting to happen

We're a bit under a week away until 2.2 drops. Just how much content have we packed in!?

    A Blurb About Herbs
7 new "Herb" type items have been introduced. This is both because they will be cool on their own, but also so that we can design moves and abilities that interact with Herbs, much like how many already interact with Berries, Gems, and Clothing.
    • Black Herb: Counterpart to White Herb. When afflicted when negative stat changes, rather than healing them, the Black Herb is consumed to apply those stat changes to all opponents as well.
    • Energy Herb: Counterpart to Power Herb. When using a move that'd cause a "recharge" turn, like Hyper Beam, the Energy Herb will be consumed to skip that.
    • Agility Herb: When the holder is set to use a move, it consumes the Agility Herb at the beginning of the turn to double its Speed that turn.
    • Strength Herb: Empowers a physical attack by 30% once per battle.
    • Intellect Herb: Empowers a special attack by 30% once per battle.
    • Skill Herb: Guarantees that a move with less than 100% accuracy will hit once per battle
    • Luck Herb: Guarantees that a move with a random chance for an additional effect with activate once per battle

    Pause Menu Overhaul
We've overhauled the pause menu for better looks, better usability, and for the potential to make it look even better in the future (custom icons anyone?)
    Pokémon Tectonic

A Step In the Right Direction
Stat Stages are rather big, aren't they? Just a +1 boost to your Attack is enough to increase it by a whole 50%. MMO players weep at that efficiency. However, that's also their greatest drawback, since if we want to nerf or buff a move that applies a +1 boost to a stat, we don't have many options.

That's why we are replacing "stat stages" with "stat steps", which are half as effective. Does that mean we're nerfing every stat changing effect in the game? No. Most moves, items, and abilities will simply apply twice as many step changes as they did stage changes, so their actual effect is the same. Some things did get buffed or nerfed, though, with buffing being more common.

    Notable nerfs:
    • Moxie/Hubris/Dauntless: Only increase by 1 step.
    • These abilities have been the source of a lot of balance problems throughout the lifetime of Pokemon Tectonic. That said, this is a sizeable nerf, and might be too much. We'll be looking at buffing the pokemon that relied on these abilities for viability, or even replacing Moxie/Hubris on many of them with new abilities that are similar but more balanced than the originals. Stat Steps give us the tools to do that!
    • Dragon Dance, Lightning Dance, Quiver Dance, Shiver Dance: Only increase Speed by 1 step instead of 2
    • Compared to other set-up moves, these are the stand out performers. We've tried to manage their power by introducing more hate effects and priming the AI to play against them, but every effort to do so also leaves all other setup moves feeling worse too. So, we want to hit them in the Speed part, the aspect causing the most problems.

    Hunter in the Night
Introducing Makyan Carnivine! "It hunts other nocturnal predators, trapping them with its sticky tendrils. Its maniacal laugh is a common sound on autumn nights."

We're closing in now on the 2.2 deadline: This Friday. No time to waste! Here's the bulletin:

    NPC Makeovers
3 more placeholder sprites have been given the axe! We have the pleasure of introducing new sprites for our beloved Skyler, Imogene, and Candy.
    Pokémon Tectonic

    Worth Your Weight In Candy
Releasing Pokémon has never been fun. We can make it useful, then, can't we? The "Release" option in the PC has now been replaced by the "Candy Exchange" option. Activating this will release the Pokémon, as per before, but you'll also be reimbursed with EXP Candy totaling 80% of the experience which the Pokémon gained while under your ownership. Will most players take advantage of this feature? We hope not. But, for those maniacs who want to Nuzlocke in Pokémon Tectonic, we hope this feature will ease the pain from your most difficult deaths.

    Move Info Overhaul
For a long time now you've been able to look at information about moves both in battle and in the MasterDex. However, both were missing information, and both struggled to provide enough room for some of our most detailed move descriptions. That's why both of these displays have been fully revamped, so you can see important information like priority, PP total, and tags (e.g. Bite, Sound, Punch) as well as have much more room to learn about each move's unique effects. The move info display in a Pokémon's summary menu remains unchanged, but will be revamped later on.
    Pokémon Tectonic

Its a Totem, For Your Pocket!
Makya is really open. Sometimes, too open. When you're zipping all around the world to find Pokémon, items, or wherever the hell that one NPC ran off to, you start to really wish there were Avatar Totems literally everywhere. We haven't done that, of course. What we have done, though, is introduce the Pocket Totem, a new key item that is given out late into the main plot. You can use this item as your own portable Avatar Totem, allowing you to teleport instantly to any of the totems which you've found out in the world. If you have a save that's already past the point at which the Pocket Totem will be given, that save will automatically receive the item when first loaded up in 2.2.0.

"Seriously, another one?!" is what I'm hoping your reaction is to our fifth bulletin for 2.2. Its the final, I promise. There's not enough time for another one, anyways, since 2.2 releases tomorrow!

That's the Way the Canyon Crumbles
A new dungeon is coming: The Crumbling Canyon! Found underneath the Barren Crater, this dungeon is a tremendously ancient complex of tunnels carved out by an undying sandstorm. To complete the Crumbling Canyon you must dig through Makya's history, facing challenges unknown to the modern world.
    Pokémon Tectonic

    Timely Guidance
The Battle Guide is a compendium of knowledge both basic and advanced about the mechanics of Pokémon Tectonic. However, its been missing one important thing: Being available during battles. Bit of a miss for something called the *Battle* Guide. So now, during Trainer or Avatar battles, the "Ball" button will be replaced by a "Guide" button which simply opens the Battle Guide. We hope this makes learning about things like new statuses, weather reworks, and avatar mechanics a lot easier.

    Like: Readability
A small adjustment here to the Pokémon summary menu. The "TRAINER MEMO" page has been re-christened the "PERSONALITY" page. Some info has been removed: The map the Pokémon was found on and the real life date you acquired the Pokémon. This was to give more space for the Pokémon's personality traits, likes, and dislikes. The Pokémon's original acquisition level was also moved--given a new home on the first summary page (It takes the spot formerly held by the useless and buggy "Dex Number").
    Pokémon Tectonic

    Avatars Changes: Debuffs and Shields
Starting a few weeks ago, we began internal testing on significant changes to Avatars. Unfortunately, some of the largest changes are too experimental to be included in 2.2. Our Quality Assurance team will be putting our wild ideas through their paces while 2.3 is being developed. Regardless, 2.2 is still seeing some important changes.

Some of an Avatar's health bars will now be "shielded" until you unlock them. Shield health bars only take 25% of any incoming damage. The most vulnerable of the health bars will start the fight unshielded (acting as normal). Every time the Avatar uses a primeval move to move to the next phase of the fight, their current most vulnerable health bar will lose its shield. Shielded health bars are visually distinct from normal ones.
    Pokémon Tectonic

Another new thing will now happen when an Avatar moves to a new phase: They'll heal any of their status ailments and reset their lowered stat steps back to neutral. Crazy, no? Well, there's a catch. Before, Avatars only experienced half as much effect from stat changes. That's been removed. They've also lost their resistance to the stat debuffs from status conditions (e.g. burn reducing attack). In case you've never heard that Avatars did this, and are confused: This was never explained in-game.
