I just don't think there's any indication that Kanda really died, unlike Alma who's soul(s) left his body (you can see that)... I've always thought that that last panel can interpreted as Kanda "enjoying" his last moments with Alma...now that he probably understood that he is her. I find it odd why Allen thinks Kanda is dead... Even though all he did was shatter the Ark Gate he sent them through...
