  • Yeah, I drink alcohol on occasion, usually when there's a party going on.
Sometimes I prefer only drinking a bit of it so I am pretty drunk but can still remember the night, but...

    (Yeah, I'm underage. xD)

Dude it's all about vodka now. That's the stuff.

Have fun having a liver transplant when you're 30, kid. I'm only telling you this as a warning. Oh wait, you're a teenager. NEVERMIND. =V

    Do you drink alcohol?
    On a normal basis, no.

    If not, why not?
    I don't like to, I guess.

Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol? Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect?
When no harm is done, it isn't a bad thing. As long as someone knows when to stop, and doesn't fall under the effects, it doesn't seem bad to me.
I never liked it much in terms of taste, and the effect scares me to a point where, when I do try it, I do so in my room. But again, that is so very rare.

What would your opinion be on someone who gets drunk every night? If so, why?
Opinion... It isn't a good thing, because losing consciousness is not anything I like, so I believe most people wouldn't like the same either.

Because you like the taste, because you want to experience the effects? How often do you drink?
I drink so rarely, it doesn't even count. I only do it to experience, and to know if I like any variants. Once again, so rare that you can say that I don't drink at all.

What's your opinion on people that refuse to drink alcohol at all?
I'm totally fine with them. People are entitled to their opinions.
However, if it's for stupid reasons, or for reasons like religion or just the idea that it is bad, I suggest that the person try it at least once in their lifetime and get a personal experience and opinion on it, because it isn't drug.

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?
I drink alone, in my room where nobody is around me. I'm scared of what I could do if I lose consciousness, or lose control. Then again, I don't really drink.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?
I can't make up my mind about this. 21 seems like a high age for something like this. But looking at the madness people seem to cause sometimes, 18 seems too low then.

I don't think you should drink if you're that young. But then, I'm not your momma.

Don't drink pure vodka though. It doesn't taste good anywhere. Rum + Coke is one of the tastiest combinations there is. Heavenly.

It's in moderation, so it shouldn't cause any lasting damage.

Next time I'm out partying, I might try that combo for myself. Who knows, it might be really nice.

  • Now dude, if you really want tasty drinks, here's a good list. But I will say, you're pretty dang young. Careful what goes in.

Sprite & Vodka. (one or two shots of vodka with sprite mixers.
Hot Chocolate & Peppermint Schnapps (There's is something that just makes me love this.)
Rum and Eggnog and milk. (Sounds gross. Tastes amazing. Put VERY LITTLE RUM. Otherwise it will taste like crud. Like a capful.)
Banana Schnapps & Green Tea Ginger Ale (I put in a shooter of Schnaps with this stuff, and it was awesome.)
Rum & Coke (Your basic starter drink, like Sprite & Vodka. Shot or two of rum in a glass of Coke)

Try out some other interesting combos. But those are just the basic stuff. Don't go to twon dude, or do. Just be careful as I have said.

  • Do I drink?
I certainly do. I have a few beers a night after finishing work and around dinner time. Then of course there are the big party nights as well. Last night is a good example. I never realised how good absinthe jelly shots could be until then.

What do I think of people who don't drink?
Well, just going by some of the responses from non drinkers on here I only have one thing to say.
The difference between people who do drink and people who don't drink is, the people who do don't make a big fuss about those who don't.

The laws about drinking don't really bother me that much, I'm 22 anyway so the age thing makes no difference to me.
I would also like to point out there is no guarantee of ever being hungover either. I consumed more than I have in a long time. I won't say exactly how much, I don't particularly feel like being chastised about it on here by some non-drinkers, but it was a fair amount.
I got home from the clubs at about 5am. It's now 10:24. Ive been up, showered, doing the housework that I needed to do and everything and I feel absolutely fine. No sign of any sort of being sick.

Everything in moderation is alright, so they say.
You can't live your life by what is apparently good or bad for you. Every time I turn around something else causes you cancer or some other disease.
People need to just relax, be themselves and enjoy their life. It doesn't matter what you do, we all die sooner or later.

  • Do you drink alcohol?
No. I haven't had a drink of alcohol since I turned 21. And since I don't drink, I'll answer the questions that deal with non-drinkers.

    If not, why not?
Honestly, I just really haven't given a thought about deciding to drink. Maybe it's because my Mom hates drinkers because her family had a lot of drinkers who got their lives messed up. She nearly kicked my brother out of the house when she found a bottle of alcohol in his car, which was unopened.

Is it a bad thing to drink alcohol?
Yes and no. Some people can get away with drinking a lot, but there are timed when people drink too much and they cause nothing but trouble. Even if you got rid of it, people will still drink. It's a necessary evil in the world. It's all on how you handle it.

Is it because you dislike the taste, or the effect?
I never really gotten drunk before, so I don't know how I'll handle it. The taste, I kind of heard that different kinds of alcohol is it either tastes bitter or harsh or the equivalent of drinking urine. I have heard the latter most often. Maybe that's why I haven't drank a beer yet.

What would your opinion be on someone who gets drunk every night?
I have no problems with them. But you never know how they might act when intoxicated. I'm more worried about drinking and driving.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol?
We're better off with the laws about not being able to buy liquor until 21 deal. We had it for years and I know some people here at PC want it lowered to 21 so they can get drunk and cause accidents and kill people. 21 to drink, I always say. And to the person who wanted the stuff banned... we tried that before in the 1920's and it didn't work.

Do you think they're too strict, too lax?
It's all in who's enforcing it. I know a lot of places that sell it ask for I.D., while you may have others who don't give a crap, but what happens when a person of legal age buys some and gives it to minors who don't know any better?

    There, I'm done.

Haha, not even. You have to drink a lot more than "on occasion" to warrant a liver transplant.

Mind you, I agree that fourteen is too young to be drinking.

    It's 4am, I am drinking right now.

Effects. How often? Not often enough for me to consider it a problem.

    Alone.

It doesn't matter, nobody follows the laws here anyway. Most people are drinking by the age of 14.

The people that think alcohol is something made by the devil are the people that haven't tried it themselves or have seen loads of people doin' it wrong.

You need to calm down. Seriously.

    ~*~*~

    Do you drink alcohol?
    Usually every Friday and Saturday.

    If so, why?
I don't really have a reason I guess. I like the taste of beer and mixed drinks. It's fun to experience an altered state of mind sometimes too. I don't do it to ESCAPE MY HARD LIFE OR ANYTHING. Just an alternative method of relaxing.

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?

Sometimes it's a glass of wine with my mom. Most of the time it's at the bar with my friends. The gay community around here is rather small so everyone pretty much knows each other so it's usually one giant party at the bar. Other times it's up at my old college with my friends or my old apartment with my friends across town.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?

I think the drinking laws should be similar to European standards. At the most, the age limit should be 18. But as long as you're being careful and not binge drinking, there's little harm in doing it.

And I agree with what Vendak said:

The people that think alcohol is something made by the devil are the people that haven't tried it themselves or have seen loads of idiots doin' it wrong.

Before I got celiac disease I would have a beer here and there at a party, or a mixed drink ~during a girls night out~, and wine at our christmas/new years parties with my family and that was the extent of it. I was never a person who drank at every party and i've certainly never been drunk.

however, now I can't drink, sooo it doesn't really effect me. except when I get bored being the only sober person around. luckily not too many of my friends are heavy drinkers.

oh and I do have friends who legit get plastered every night and it can be annoying, especially when i'm the one getting the drunken 4am texts/calls about random crap WHEN I'M TRYING TO SLEEP BECAUSE I NEED TO BE UP AT 6AM FOR CLASS. but seriously, as someone who has a recovering alcoholic in the family, I really dislike use of it everyday. it can do more damage than just to your liver :/

  • Do you drink alcohol?
Yup. Not too often, but I do.

    If so, why?
Honestly, I just like the taste. The only time I was ever drunk was at an outdoor music festival when I drank too much beer but I was there with my family anyway (lol I'm so cool) and by the time we got back to our hotel at the end of the night it had pretty much worn off anyway. Otherwise, I get a bit tipsy if I haven't been eating while drinking but considering I'm used to being on painkillers fairly often, it never seems like a big deal at all. I just get a bit lightheaded, not even worth mentioning.

But I have no issues with people who refuse to drink. It's their choice and they have their reasons. I do get annoyed with the ones who get all "holier than thou" because I drink on occasion and they don't. But honestly, I moreso judge the people who drink to the point of blacking out, or being too drunk to function, or just not drinking responsibly. :/

To those that do drink alcohol, do you only do so in the company of others as a social thing, or do you usually drink alone?
I guess I mostly drink when the opportunity arrives either at home or with friends. But I'm not adverse to drinking on my own. Had a beer last night while playing video games and snacking. :P Usually I won't go out of my way to get alcohol though, so I typically only remember to drink when my friends are drinking or if there's a beer or fruity drink I like in the beer fridge at home.

What's your opinion on the laws about alcohol? Do you think they're too strict, too lax?
I think they're fine. Drinking law could be lowered to 18, but I think it's fairly fine in Ontario. I think it's ridiculous in the US though. :( People can make life-changing decisions like getting married at 18 but can't drink until 21? Lol okay then. I understand the need to deter people from drinking too early but by making the age later, I kind of feel people who really want to will drink anyway and by restricting it/making it harder to obtain, it's already kind of encouraging them to drink irresponsibly. Dunno if that's actually how it works though, just seems logical in my head. @_@

All of that said, aside from a quick sip of wine or beer from my parents (that I usually just gagged at anyway xD), I never had an alcoholic drink until I was 18 and my mom bought me some vodka coolers before I went to university just so I would know what alcohol and its effects were like, in case I was at a weird party or something. Drinking while underage never really appealed to me at all and I do agree that people shouldn't drink underage just because they're more inclined to be irresponsible.

...lol at kids in this thread who think drinking casually/on occasion results in RUINED LIFE 4EVER.

I'm a coeliac, and we can drink many different kinds of alcohol, like ciders, wine and most spirits.

    No.

I took a health class, I know how bad it can mess you up.
I'm also underage anyway, and I hate the taste. It's nasty.

They're not strict enough. Down here in Texas, the punishment for a DUI is minimal. It should be illegal because it can actually mess your life up more than marijuana can.

  • I drink socially, sure. But I've only gotten badly drunk once, and it was my first time too. I guess it was necessary to find my threshold. Since, I've learned to simply eat something if I feel tipsy without wanting to.

I have no problem with anyone refusing to drink alcohol. Anyone who would have bones about something that minute needs a hobby.

I admit, when I was underaged I thought the laws were obtuse. The legal age here is 18 and I felt nothing suddenly changes in your body that makes the way you respond to alcohol any different from when you were 17 or 16. Couldn't be bothered now, obviously.

Alcohol usually has loads of calories anyway, so drinking something like beer avidly isn't a good idea if you're watching your figure.

Alcohol itself has no calories as such (in the form of anything unhealthy), it's just that the contents of alcoholic drinks have lots of sugar, etc. As such, there are a range of "light" drinks from a sugar point-of-view. Even beer.
