"You're being Rude" "No, I'm being Sarcastic"

Sarcasm, whether it's online or in real life, is used in different ways and as a result taken in different ways as well. While some people may actually be rude in what they're saying, others use it to joke around with friends, family, and so on. However, sometimes family/friends/others take it the wrong way, considering it 'rude' or 'disrespectful' when they actually don't mean for it to be.

I myself use sarcasm to joke around with really good friends, whom I think wouldn't think of it as rude. However, there are times when I try to do so, but they take it the wrong way and thus I then feel that we're not as close as I thought we were. This might be because my sister and I are sarcastic with eachother all the time, and we're reaaally close.

Are you a sarcastic person? How do you use sarcasm. Are you one of those who tend to see sarcastic comments as 'rude', even if they may not be? What is your limit when it comes to people using sarcasm, and when you use it yourself. And lastly, are you able to identify sarcasm well?

(don't answer these question by question please kthnksbye)

I'm soooo sarcastic haha. I have to rein it in sometimes because not everyone appreciates it but my family was like that ever since I was little, teasing each other all the time sarcastically and such so it just comes out without even thinking. xD

I'm extremely sarcastic. I use it mostly to make jokes. I used to get misunderstood a lot when I was younger and used to make tasteless jokes, but these days I don't have many problems with it. Usually only people who are eavesdropping on conversations I'm having with friends are the only people who get the wrong impression. I usually refrain from being sarcastic until I get to know someone better or unless it would be really obvious I'm not serious.

I used to not understand sarcasm too well when I was younger and my friends had to explain things to me when they were being sarcastic. :( I don't use it all the time, but I do have a sarcastic side to me that only shows when I'm in a bad mood or I'm complaining about something. So most of the time, when I'm being sarcastic, I'm not in a happy mood.

Buuuut I get people who mistaken my tone of voice for sarcasm all the time. I speak kind of harshly so people will think I'm being sarcastic when I'm really not. :(

I am really good at noticing sarcasm, in real-life anyway. Online, I'm utterly lost if it's out of context. But in reality, it's pretty easy to tell with body language, tone of voice, etc.

I myself am very sarcastic. It's funny when people can't identify it and take me seriously, especially when it was pretty obvious that I'm joking around or something. When I'm sarcastic, I'm either pissed or joking. Usually the latter.

I'm sarcastic sometimes, yeah. Mostly, it happens when I'm about to comment about a condition, so it may seem rude, according to a few people. I can hardly tell if someone is being sarcastic or not, though...

I haaate it when they misunderstand you when you're using sarcasm, and then suddenly hold some grudge against you later on. It makes you feel bad, and also irritated at them.

I use sarcasm somewhat commonly. My cousin once thought I was ticked off and told me to calm down when I used it once. :V
And I can identify sarcasm. It's honestly not that hard, especially when you understand the situation and/or the person. On the internet, that's a little harder, though. (Obviously.)

I can't use sarcasm well, and when I do, people take me the wrong way. That's why I just say things straight.

I'm not particularly great at reigning sarcasm in when meeting new people... so they have a tendency to take everything I say completely seriously when I'm normally being sarcastic about 50% of the time. People who do know me quite fell have said they find it endearing, but new peeps tend to take a while to get accustomed to the way I talk.

In real like, yea I am kind of a sarcastic person, and that's what a lot of people don't like about me. Whether the person whose talking to me is new or just a friend, I don't really mean to be sarcastic, it just became a part of me.

I always use Sarcasm. That's how me and my friends are. We're all crazy like that :p. I use it like 91% of the time xDD

I'm really bad with sarcasm, but I want to use it whenever I'm speaking so bad. >:3

Although sometimes it works out. :'o

I am rather sarcastic if I am honest. If there is a day where I am not sarcastic at least once... then I must be asleep for the whole day.

Just apart of who I am.

I use sarcasm on occasion, but not very often. I'm more of a straightforward person I guess. It's used much more offline than online, since it's hard to tell sarcasm online. I am really awful about it actually. >_<

I don't mind it, even online, as long as I understand it's sarcastic. If I don't then I get frustrated when I don't pick it up and get called out on it.

I am very sarcastic but sometimes sarcasm just doesn't cut it and I have to tell em straight what I'm thinking.

Sarcasm can be rude if you take it to a certain point but just as it can be rude it can also be harmless and light-hearted.

Thanks.

I use sarcasm in three ways:

1.) If I am upset.
2.) If I want to emphasise how stupid something someone said was, in a mostly lighthearted sense. (It's always someone distant, like someone on TV that I don't know)
3.) As humour in harmless silly jokes (not teasing).

:3 That is in order of least common to most common.

I think with silly joking around it doesn't really matter if you're being sarcastic or not. It's just fun little jokes. :3
I don't really like hearing people use sarcasm in a serious sense. It tends to feel very condescending and like the person thinks they know more than me.

The one thing I just don't tolerate is when people put a question mark at the end of a statement to make it sound sarcastic and like it should be obvious. It just makes me feel like they think I'm an idiot. :/

Sarcasm isn't always rude, but when it's meant to be, it can be one of the rudest ways of being rude. :(
