Why do Pokemon always say their names?

This has never really made sence to me. In Red and Blue, Pokemon just sounded like real animals. But for some really stupid reason when the anime started they decided to make them say their names all the time. WHY?! Just WHY?! It sounds so STUPID! Do you know how annoying it is when all you can hear throughout pretty much the whole show is: "PIKA PIKA PIKA PIKA" and "CORPHISH CORPHISH CORPHISH COR" and whatever other retarded noises Pokemon make in the anime. Don't the guys who make the anime realise how ANNOYING it sounds?!

    Anyone agree with me?

I actually kind of like it...it helps me remember their names...and it's just different. :)

Cause I don't like it when I can't tell the difference between a cry and being constipated?
I see nothing wrong with it. I like it.

    Meowth doesnt. :P

    haha. Its fine with me

The answer to this lies in Extradimensional Biological Quantum Physics. According to the ancient Pokegreeks, ArZeus and AbsoChaos did that to most Pokemon, primarily the cute ones, because they were tired of other Pokemon and humans of forgetting their origin name. The rough ones never complained so they stayed with moans and roars. What i'm saying is, Pokemon sounds cuter with those wierd vocal corded Pokemon ^_^.

not all pokemon say their names

some of the stronger ones like Charizard and Gyrados don't say their name...but it doesn't bother me really dat much....

One reason why I stopped watching the anime in '02 was because of that. Either have the S2 cries or have them all speak English like Digimon. Now THAT would work; why - it'd sell.

I'd rather have that than them actually talking to me like people (Digimon creeped me out like that). So, I'll go with your theory. Heh.

you know, in the Japanese version, not all the Pokemon just drone on their full names monotonously. A grand majority of them only say parts of their name, and tend to add a very animalistic tone to it. Here's a video for example (a Spanish fansub was all I could find on Youtube). Probably one of the most noteable differences from the English version is Juptor/Grovyle, who says "juru" with a growly voice as opposed to saying "Grovyle" in a voice that's on level with a brain-damaged Muppet (which doesn't fit the character at all). It's also worth noting that cute mascot characters saying their name is a common trait in Japanese media, so it should really come as no surprise that Pokemon do the same (especially the very cute ones, like Pikachu).

The have to say something, and it would seem weird if all the Pokemon can talk like meowth.

    Pikachu: Hey Ash, what's up?

I agree it would be better if they just stick to their animalistic ways and not speak. There are like 493 pokemon now and it would be much easier if they just said their names. Besides, it would be too much like digimon. I'm also okay with the constant grunting and growling of some. Just imagine every pokemon having its own voice. That's why Mewtwo, Lucario, Meowth, and all those pokemon that can speak are unique.

Not all PKMN say their names though, and mainly those PKMNs are legendaries, but not all... I never heard the legendary birds and dogs to say their names. :D
How about Palkia and Dialga? Giratina? :D Ermm... :\ Mewtwo? xD

How about Houndour and Houndoom? They mainly sy 'grrrrrr....' and 'rrraaawrrr!' :P
I like PKMN say their names though. It's kinda cute. <3

Bah....this is the problem. It's making Pokemon too cute! :P

Its supposed to be unique, a LOT of people who don't like Pokemon will know that all Pikachu says is "Pikachu" and that is what they wanted to achieve, I suppose, to make it memerable.

Yeah, the Japanese version is usually better but they can sometimes have weird voice too (I thought Turtwig's was hilarious - forgotten his Japanese name) and I was watching the Japanese DP episode with Abra and I thought his voice was pretty bad, too.

In this case, the S2 cries, sometimes fragmented and picthed for emotion, would be better here.
