Why can't Nidorina or Nidoqueen breed?

Probably the biggest breeding mystery in Pokemon is that of Nidorina and Nidoqueen. They are the only non-baby and non-legendary Pokemon in the No Eggs group, and I am baffled as to why. Anyone want to share their theories?

Probably just becauce they decided to have them be that way, I guess... there are unique after all in that there are two Nidoran lines which are only one gender each and all... but anyways, this doesn't fit in the HGSS section as it is not HGSS specific (they're in other games after all =p) so going to move to Pokemon General Gaming (as it's a gaming mechanic I suppose and all).

well i think they can't breed cause they r both opposite genders...or rather they each hav an opposite gender counterpart.if they were to breed then only females would be born because they r considered different pokemon. if they were able to breed with ditto then it would make creating the different genders pointless... do u follow what i'm saying?

No, because Volbeat/Illumise breeding can yield either of those species depending on the gender, as can Nidoran (both genders) and Nidorino/Nidoking. It's just Nidorina and Nidoqueen that can't, and I have no idea why.

I suspect it might be some kind of bug carry-over from Gen 2 (even if it's no longer a bug, it's canon now), but I can't think what that bug might be, because even back then a Nidorino and (more importantly) a Nidoran female could produce either gender.

That's not true at all. Both Nidoran families have gender.
I meant in terms of this:
    Spoiler:

As you see, there is no colored gender thing, just a gender that is built into the name.

It could have been made because the creators didn't think about it in Gen. 3 and since Gen. 3 and 4 can trade between eachother (well, limited trading), it could cause problems.

Or some idiot might put a Nidorina and Nidorino in a Breeding Center and have some Ungendered Nido-thing.

Let's look at this a diffrent way.
Nidorian female has no belly plate.
When she evolves into nidorina her belly plate forms and starts to harden.
When she evolves again her "genitals" would be blocked off completely by this hard plate.
Nidorian male and nidorino don't have this hard plate and nidokings stops just above the crotch area.
Looking at breeding in a more realistic standard, the entire male line would have full functionality for breeding. But since nidorina and nidorina queen have that plate blocking off their parts only nidorian female would have that capability.
    Does that make any sense?

Actually, I think it's a reference to rhinos not giving offspring while kept in captivity...
    WHOOOOA, I just noticed...
Did you just... resurrect an 8 years old thread?

I was curious and found it. So yes. Yes I did.
That's also a strong possibility though.
I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to see a reply so soon.

It is based on the principle that when a female has gotten babies, she "evolves" to protect those babies. in some cases this means getting rid of some other bodily function like reproduction, because if they are pregnant and defending the previous babies, this could mean she can't properly defend those babies because she is pregnant and it causes damage to the unborn child.

    Along those lines or something.
