  • This is a semi-collaborative Pokemon guessing game, similar to Squirtlenator's original 20 Questions thread, but with enough differences and a long enough time to be remade and have a name change to fit the new style better!

Essentially, one person will choose a Pokemon, and everyone else is on a mission to guess it as fast as possible, only being able to ask one yes-or-no question at a time. Once the Pokemon is guessed, the person who guessed it(or someone else if they don't want to) will choose another Pokemon and continue the cycle!

    WHO'S THAT POKEMON?

    • Rules

      0. All general PokeCommunity rules apply. This might be obvious, but I'm making this rule zero because it is a very important reminder!!!
(This has always been a fun game with family and friends and I would love to keep playing it with you guys as well.)

      1. If you are the picker, never tell ANYONE the current chosen Pokemon! ANYONE!!!!
If I have good reason to believe that you have, then the scoring for that round will be null for any records!!
(Also, it ruins the fun of the game for everyone, so just don't-)

      2. At the end of the day, the current picker has discretion on question interpretation and answers.
These rules are meant to help guide the game and keep it fun, but if a picker misunderstands a question or thinks answering a question they technically shouldn't would be more interesting, then they can!

      3. Rounds end when the Pokemon is correctly guessed- no sooner than that or later than that, unless a picker does not respond for more than 48 hours.
In that case, anyone may choose a new Pokemon and start a new round.
Some stats will be tracked over time- shortest round, longest round, and most wins.
(So, you might want to go for a hard Pokemon and a long round, or an easy Pokemon and a short round!)

      4. Each guesser can only have one unanswered question at a time.
Wait for the picker to answer your last question before asking another!
This allows a balance of not being too slow, while also keeping questions manageable for pickers.
(There is also a trade-off for each question, since waiting for the picker to answer any current questions might make your next question unhelpful; and ALL questions are counted towards the total if they are answered, even if they don't help you!)

      5. For pickers, any new questions between your last answers and now must be answered.
If someone asks a question that has been answered before, it is up to you whether to answer it again.
If you do, it will be counted, and if not, it won't.
(For you troublemakers, that means you might want to answer questions again to go for long rounds!)
      6. In the case that an answer to a question is not generationally consistent (i.e., "Does it have a signature move?"), it is up to the picker whether or not they want to answer the question as-is or ask for more clarification.
(If no clarification is added on either end, it is best to assume that the question applies to the current generation.)

      7. Questions should not be number-related for the most part- no stats, Pokedex numbers, heights, weights, so on.
      However, some exceptions:
      Is a Pokemon is taller/shorter than average(4', 1.22m)?
      Is a Pokemon heaver/lighter than average?(125 lbs, 56.7kg)?
      Any generation-related questions.
(This is a guessing game, not a numbers game!)

      8. Unless otherwise stated, alternate forms other than those listed below are not allowed. The general criteria is no gimmick forms and type differences.
(yes I know Ultra Necrozma could be considered a gimmick form but oh well)
      Alternate Form Exceptions
      -Any Regional Forms
-Combat, Blaze, and Aqua Breed Paldean Tauros
-Normal, Sunny, Rainy, and Snowy Form Castform
-Plant, Sandy, and Trash Cloak Wormadam
-Normal, Heat, Wash, Frost, Fan, and Mow Rotom

-Teal, Wellspring, Hearthflame, and Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon

      -Any Paradox Pokemon
*these last two might be obvious, but I want to cover the bases. No confusion!
    • SUPER SPECIAL SUPER SPINS!
      redone May 8th, 2024
      currently working on this <3

Bored of guessing regular Pokemon over and over?

Why not add some silliness with a SUPER SPECIAL SUPER SPIN?
(Think of these as "gimmicks" for a single round- a modifier meant to break up regular games, while retaining the general structure of a round.)

To play a SPIN, all you have to do is be the picker, and announce which SPIN you'd like to play at the beginning of the round!

At the end of the round, the picker and the winning guesser will both receive a SPIN WIN!

These are meant to make the game more fun here and there- making every round a SPIN, while allowed, doesn't make them very SUPER SPECIAL- but if you want to, then go for it!

In the case of a rule conflict, any SPIN rules take priority.

SPIN responsibly, and more importantly, SPIN SILLY-LY!

("bonus points" for every time you make your messages SUPER SPECIAL! :D)

The pickers are tired of having their Pokemon guessed so quickly! They've decided to make it a little harder!

The picker MUST lie on one question, other than the first question or a specific guess.
If the Pokemon is guessed before the picker lies, they were CAUGHT! red-handed by the correct guesser!

Guessers may once each interrogate the picker on one answer, asking whether or not it is true. These will count towards the total question count.

If the false answer is found, then the picker is CAUGHT! red-handed by the correct guesser!

If a picker is CAUGHT! red-handed, then they receive no WIN! for this round, and the guesser who CAUGHT! them receives an extra WIN! instead.

However, if three incorrect specific guesses are made, the picker will receive an extra WIN!, and the eventual correct guesser will not receive a WIN! for the round.
      CATEGORY CONFUSION
      CATEGORY CONFUSION
The Pokemon in categories have gotten themselves all mixed up! Let's see if we can help them sort themselves out.
The chosen Pokemon must be from one of the categories listed in the Categories section!

As the categories have all be jumbled, questions regarding the categories are not helpful, and not allowed. (ex. Is it in X group?).

The correct guesser and the picker will each receive a WIN! at the end of the round.
      RIDICULOUS ROLE REVERSAL
      RIDICULOUS ROLE REVERSAL
Something's been all mixed up in the Who's That Pokemon? system- guessers are acting like pickers, and pickers are acting like guessers! This might take a round to fix….

For every nine questions asked, ALL guessers will receive an extra WIN!, up to 2.

For every three questions answered "Yes", the picker will receive an extra WIN!, up to 2.

Specific guesses do not count toward the total questions.

Questions that will not reduce the number of viable Pokemon are not allowed. (ex. Asking if the Pokemon is weak to something when its types have already been established)
      DOUBLE-DOWN DOOZY
      DOUBLE-DOWN DOOZY
The Who's That Pokemon? system has run out of questions to analyze! We need more questions to store for the future!

All guessers must ask two questions at a time; specific guesses are exempt from these rules.

Pickers only have to answer one of the two questions; the other question will be stored in the system for later and cannot be asked again! The unanswered question will not count towards the amount asked.

In an attempt to build questions up faster, pickers are encouraged to answer less helpful questions. Thus, for every 6 questions asked, pickers will receive an extra WIN!.

To help the systems' accuracy, ALL guessers will receive an extra WIN! if 6 questions are answered with a "Yes"!
Citra's Super Special Super Spin Silliness!!!!
Citra's Super Special Super Spin Silliness!!!!
Oh no! I may have slipped and accidentally activated all of the SUPER SPECIAL SUPER SPINS! at once! The only way to turn them off is to play a round with them!

The chosen Pokemon may be ANY Pokemon and ANY form, as long as it is used in the games by player or enemy!

All guessers must ask two questions at a time; specific guesses are exempt.

Pickers must answer both questions, and one of the answers must be a lie; specific guesses exempt.

For every six pairs questions asked, the picker will receive one extra WIN!, up to 3.

For every three pairs of questions answered "yes/yes" or "no/no", every guesser will receive one extra WIN!, up to 3.

      try it...if you dare!!!!

    • Question Guide
These are just some simple attributes about a Pokemon that you might ask about, but are by no means the only things you can ask!
      -Typing
      - Home region
      - Does it have alternate forms/is it an alternate form?
      - Evolution line
      - Signature move/ability
      - Home generation
      - Weaknesses/resistances/immunities
      - Does it have a gimmick form?(Megas, G-Maxs, Special Teras)
    • Game Example
Here's an example of how a very small and boring round might go, with Mew as the chosen Pokemon:

      Picker: Alright, I've chosen!
Guesser 1: Is it from Gen 4 or older?
      Picker: Yes!
Guesser 1: Is it from Gen 3?
Guesser 2: Is it from Gen 2 or 1?
Picker: No, it's not from gen 3. Yes, it's from gen 2 or 1.
Guesser 2: Is it a legendary or mythical Pokemon?
      Picker: Yes, it is!
Guesser 1: Is it a mythical?
      Picker: Yes!
      Guesser 2: Is it Mew?
Picker: Yes, that was the Pokemon!

Note: Here, Picker and Guesser 2 would be taken for the score. The round was 6 questions overall, which is probably shorter than any real game will be unless someone goes for a far shot and gets lucky. Also, hopefully you'll be more creative with your questions!

  • This seems like a pretty fun game idea! Though I will say to make the return time for a picker be 48 hours at least, in the event a person forgets or is busy with life for a day. That said:

Is it from a Gen older than 4?
I was already thinking the 24 was too short, but I wasn't sure. def gonna change it now

    No, it's 4 or newer!

It floats or flies and is dual typed... better check if it's part Flying type I guess.

Is it part Flying type ?

    Nope! Not Flying type!

  • Kinda thinking Psychic type now... though there are Pokemon that float/fly that aren't, like Golurk.

Was it introduced in a game prior to the Switch's Pokemon games?

  • Is it a Mythical?
    Uh oh. It is!

Kinda thinking Psychic type now... though there are Pokemon that float/fly that aren't, like Golurk.

Was it introduced in a game prior to the Switch's Pokemon games?
It was before the Switch games, yep!
(my only reminder so far that it's gen 4 or up, so 4, 5, 6, or 7 )

  • Let me guess. Is it Meloetta? :p
It is! (It's specifically Aria Forme, but a long with ReKoil's next question of Psychic that's basically it ;D)
A considerably more narrow pool, but there are still a couple options...
*stares at your avatar and wonders if Meloetta can fly/float...*

    Is it part Psychic type?

This was after Alex's guess, but since it would've been yes, it being Aria Forme is a given. I am going to count it towards the questions though >;3

I picked one I hoped would be pretty easy to get us a bit familiar with how it'd work, hope it did for y'all!

The winner for this round is Alex, after 10 questions! Up to you if you wanna pick or let someone else-
