Who is Ash's father anyway?

    I've noticed this in a site and it kept me thinking "who is Ash's Father?" they never show a flashback or a single picture of him.

    It goes like this:
    We know he is/was a Pokemon trainer, who reached Viridian City in four days. Supposedly, he thinks highly of Ash, and would be proud of his accomplishments (as we hear in Episode 2). After this, "Mr. Ketchum" is never heard of again (unless you believe that Giovanni is really Ash's father... making for a weird Star Wars cliche). Delia mentions "straightening her life out after meeting Ash's father" in Pokemon Live, but that stage production isn't really official. And besides, Ash's mom seems awfully attached to Professor Oak. Will the real Mr. Ketchum please stand up?

    Evil Cassidy writes: "I believed that Ash`s father`s Giovanni & that is rumored that Giovanni wanted Ash to become the next TR leader but failed when he & Delia broke up & Ash became a good guy!"

    Arukenimon writes: "I heard my best friend, Evil Cassidy, wrote that it's Giovanni but I belive it's Lance from Elite 4. But I dun think so it's true."

    Esther writes: "I think I found out something that might go against the Giovanni-is-Ash's-Father Deal. Remember in Mewtwo Returns, where Ash and Gio meet for (presumably) the first time? Well I noticed that there wasn't any recognition on either side, as others have pointed out as well. If Gio was keeping tabs on his "son", he would (hopefully) know what Ash looked like, so he would have recognized him, right? I would think so."


    Nekusagi writes: "Ash's Father: Hmm... reached Viridian in 4 days. Gee, wonder who the leader of Viridian City Gym is? Wouldnt be Giovanni, would it now? Considering most fanboys/girls believe Viridian to be OWNED practically by TR (how else would he operate it w.out being suspected of anything)....

    His dad is very proud of him.... Yeah, I'd be proud of my son too, if I knew he beat the stuffing out of my least favorite Agents everyday so I wouldn't have to. Saves time, yknow?

    And no, evil parentage is NOT a star wars cliche. It is an ancient archetype, in which the persona (hero) springs from the darkness (in this case, Gio) to eventually defeat it. Although personally I wouldn't mind seeing Ash join Team Rocket- talk about irony.

    Giovanni wants to see his son, right? So don't you think it'd make sense to take what Ash likes best to MAKE HIM COME BACK AND GET IT? Yep. Exactly. Dragonite said something to that effect.-

    Well, I've been thinking that too for so long. That issue is so like I dunno 2

    years or so but has not been answered yet. Yes, rumors are spreading that

    Giovanni is Ash's father but I don't believe a word of it. Probably in the future

    he might show up as the series goes on.
     
    Ash's father was only metion a few times in the begining of the sereis and never again. His dad isn't that important anyways. It has nothing to do with teh sereis and we will never hear or see of him again.

    I would like to see him but still. he not that really important to know.
     
    I remember a site Pokemonica, that had an early transcript/diary by Shudo, detailing Satoshi's father to a degree. Unfortunately unless you know Japanese writing, it wouldn't help you. Besides, Sho Pro found out and shut the site down. It was an English site, so it was a rather asinine shut down as it was for people who don't know Japanese but yeah.

    So there IS a document about the father, just no one knows what.
     
    I personally think that Giovanni as Ash's father is a little weird. Silver (the GSC rival) is officially Giovanni's son in Pokemon special, and there is a reference to that in the games as well with the team rocket member in FR/LG mentioning Giovanni having a son with red hair. If Ash is Giovanni's son, then that would mean that he and the GSC rival are at least half-brothers, which strikes me as a little odd. It would be interesting, but very strange nonetheless.

    I personally think that Ash's dad isn't really important to the storyline and was never really meant to be revealed. He's probably just some random guy who's out there somewhere. If he ever were to be revealed, though, something tells me it'd be toward the very end of the anime series.

    Did anyone ever think that maybe his father died before he was born or when he was a little kid?

    Its gonna be like the story line from Duel Masters where the main character's father comes out of nowhere... i suspect this will happen in pokemon soon
     
    Hmm well Ash's father is still covered in mystery just as chiru said if we do ever get to see him it probably won't be to the very end of the series
     
    I'm not sure who Ash's father could be, but to reply to a statement made earlier in the thread about the rival in the g/s/c games could be giovanni's son, however if anyone else noticed the other one in that game with red hair is Bill, even though its brown in the r/b/g/y and in fr/lg so maybe brown isn't his real hair colour?
     
    Um, the fact that Giovanni ever actually wooed a woman is what scares me the most. Ewww! XD

    Seriously though, I never believed that he was Ash's father. Other than Pokemon Live, which is most certainly nothing official, there really is no evidence to back it up. I don't even think that Giovanni wants Pikachu... has he ever actually expressed an interest in it? It always seems like Jessie, James, and Meowth are the ones to like it.

    I have always believed that Ash's father is just someone that is never around, someone we'll never get to see, and when the end of the show rolls around, we'll be left going, "Eh?" Just my opinion though. ^-^

    You bring up a good point. If Silver is Giovanni's son, how can he (Giovanni) be Ash's father? There's ways.

    I mean look at Fullmetal Alchemist. Edward's dad was cheating on his mother. Maybe it's the same with Ash's father. All I know is if they ever reveal who his dad is, whether or not it's Giovanni, there'll be a ton of emotion in it.
     
    thats a good question, the first time i ever watched pokemon, i thought: hmmmmm......who is ash's father neway? o well....he'll probably come on in 1 of the episodes sum time.....and still nobody knows..... do u think they ever will show his father? -_-

    I'm a firm believer in the theory that Professor Oak is Ash's biological father, since it's been made pretty obvious throughout the series that there's something going on between Oak and Delia.
     
    i do not agree that ash's father is oak(if it was ash would have an older sister with his son gary and gary never calls ash his uncle) or norman(there are rumors that ash's father is norman but thats 1000000000000000000000000....% not agreed, what stupid guy would come up with that?),some say its ho-oh(for GODS sake a pokemon?)others say he's adopted(dunno)but i feel that giovani is right ..i have seen cartoons copying other cartoons "may" was copied from ed,edd,n' eddy so later pokemon has copied starwars

    Exactly! I mean c'mon. Like more than half of the people on Earth dont know who their father is and dont even care at all who it could be. So why make a huge deal about someone else who is a cartoon character?

    I can unbderstand what you're saying. But I'm one of those people whom cries at night because they don't know who their father is... Words can severely hurt people...

    Back on topic:

    I have wondered whom Ash's dear old dayy is...heh, would've been wierd if it WERE Giovanni.
