[PokeCommunity.com] Which Came First, the Game or the Anime?
So obviously I know that the games came before the anime, but that isn't true for everyone that's a fan - it's very possible to run into the anime before you ever pick up a Gameboy. So what about you: Did you see the anime first, or play the games?

Personally, I can't remember what I did first but I remember the first couple episodes of Pokemon and my copy of Blue. However, judging by the fact that I've only owned a GBC and never the original and those came out after the first episode of Pokemon, I'm betting that I saw the anime first. :3

I had the cards first. My first Pokemon card was Sandshrew, and it will forever be my favoritest pokemon of all time.

I have to say I agree, though mine was with Pokemon Yellow, which was based on the anime. I don't remember watching any of the episodes, but I must have for my parents to have bought me a GBC and a copy of Yellow. Ahh, the good old Gameboy days...

I cant even remember. Ive grown up with Pokemon, my first game was Yellow when I was three. I have a bunch of old cards, I even remember buying that deck that game with the CD. I remember watching the Saturday morning cartoons, and I have a bunch of old VHS with episodes stored in my basement. I dont know what came first, but whatever it was, it define my life forever (Y) <3

I think the games, had red since i was really young. I can't really remember still...

It's hard to remember exactly. I do remember playing the games in school and speaking like the pokemon from the show (I always used to hear Koffing as "Coffee" and that's how I said it lol) but I'm fairly certain it was the games for me. They were real close together though.

I remember watching the show first before getting to the games. Back then, I thought the show came first, but now I know the games came before the show.

I remember my brother and I got a whole bunch of cards first. I fell in love with the Vulpix card, and began watching the anime. Not to long afterwards, my best friend loaned me his GBC and pokemon Silver, and I haven't looked back. Silver was my first game, and I will always have a place in my heart for Chikorita and Vulpix! And Charmander is just too cool to ignore!

Anime for me. When I didn't know much about Pokemon I first saw Pokemon on tv.
On Christmas, I picked up a Gameboy and played Pokemon FireRed, my very first game.
    Ah, good times.

I watched the charmander episode and that was my first ever exposure to Pokemon, then I got exposed to the games. I played with PKMN cards for a while but one day I just gave it all away to my friends (Now obviously regretting it because they were worth a lot and I could've left it as collectables).

Games came first, well first came the KFC toys that got us kids interested. We played through Red and Blue. I swear my family was the only in town actually playing Pokemon so our Walmart and Kmart had nothing Pokemon related, but the expensive Suncoast had the VHS tapes that were about $12 each back then for one episode. Everytime someone had a birthday we got one and we loved it being able to see our pixelated monsters on the screen and what they really look like. (Back then kiddies WB was on cable and not everyone had cable :x)

I think the first episode we ever seen (or maybe 2nd or 3rd depending on the VHS tape it's on) is where AJ is after his 100th win and somehow Ash's Pigetto didn't fare well against Sandshrew.

We all thought that was bull.

The games, believe me, if the anime was my first exposure to the franchise I would have never gotten into it. The anime would have turned me off to all things Pokemon if I hadn't discovered how awesome Pokemon Blue was first.

    ...I'm not sure. :(

    I remember I had Gold before I saw the first episode of Johto Journeys. Buuut I'm pretty sure I might've watched the anime before that. I'm still not entirely sure, so I'm tempted to say Gold, but idk why they would've got me Gold randomly had I not had some interest in Pokemon beforehand, so idk. actually... I remember I was into Pokemon by 2002-ish, but that's not really a good indicator. It's so complicated really, if only I had a better memory for when I first got into it ;__;

(Suddenly random flashbacks of my "Pokemon life" though :x)

I thought Pokemon Blue and Red came out during the end of September of 1998?

Anyways I watched the anime first on September 8th 1998, then towards the end of that same month, I got both Pokemon Red and Blue
