I bought this game to get back into Pokemon and, though it is still fun I feel there is something amiss. Am I missing something? This is the TPP Red Anniversary Edition.

As far as I know, there's no official game with that title that has been released, so it sounds like an illegitimate copy. I'm not sure what TPP stands for, but maybe Twitch Plays Pokemon? If so, it could be a release using some sort of hacked/altered rom used for the Twitch Plays Pokemon feed a couple of years ago, or something else along those lines.

If you're looking for authentic main-series Pokemon games, you'll probably want to go with either X/Y/OR/AS for 3DS, or the virtual console re-releases of Red, Blue, and Yellow on the 3DS eShop.

Yeah, in the science museum in Pewter city one of the NPCs said something about Twitch starting to play Pokemon in 2014. Its working fine and I'm enjoying it so I'll keep playing it for now.

I don't have a 3DS. I bought the color, primarily for nostalgia, but also because it was cheaper and I wanted to get into repairing an modifying vintage handhelds. Since I've had a GBC before that is what I started with. So, yeah...

In any case, this happened really fast, and I thought I had missed a bullet, but the game got really glitchy right around when I got to Cerulean City Keeps freezing on me. I tried three other games and all but Spider Man worked fine on it. I just got these games in the mail so I was trying them as well and I am not surprised that one did not work. I might try to fix it, but it just does not boot. In any case, I sucked it up and ordered a yellow Game Pak from eBay that specified a new save battery.

Is there a legit English green version? or are those all fakes to? I figured out that the Pink version is another fake, thank God not the hard way like the TPP. I'll keep the TPP around long enough to try and get some Pokemon off of it and then I'll sell it for parts on eBay and try to get some of my money back.

There is not a legit English green version, as far as I'm aware. There is a LeafGreen version, though that's for GBA. Hopefully you've found a working, legit game by now, but if not, if you want a first generation game, you want Red, Blue, or Yellow. The Yellow you ordered (with a new battery) should work fine.

There may not be a way to fix the TPP version you bought. It's possible that it just doesn't work properly once you hit Cerulean City and beyond. Maybe whoever made it wanted to attract people with the TPP name, but didn't bother to make sure it was stable past Mt. Moon or so because a lot of people would try the game out, see that it was fine for the first gym badge, and not realize there was a problem until it was too late to return the game or do anything about it. Or it could just be an unfortunate coincidence that it doesn't work. Either way, Red, Blue, and Yellow (or Gold, Silver, and Crystal, if you want to play gen II) are the way to go.

Pokemon TPP is a rom hack put into a cartridge made for a anniversary of Twitch Plays Pokemon. Here's a link to the reddit post: Reddit

Thanks for the replies guys. I did get the yellow and it works great. I also have purchased a copy of red and it is great as well. The TPP hack copy has become completely useless, even after removing and replacing the save battery.

"TPP Edition" or "TPP Version" hacks of Pokemon are essentially this:

    1) All pokemon from that game are catchable or obtainable without TRADING.
    2) All pokemon are slightly upgraded (whether it be stats, typing, etc.)
    3) All trainers are SLIGHTLY (and I mean SLIGHTLY) harder.
    4) All gym leaders are MUCH HARDER (not too much, but pretty difficult).
    5) Catching pokemon is a little harder (as the catch rate has been lowered slightly).
    6) Other small modifications to the game to "improve" it have been applied (faster text, etc)

Other than that, there are a few alternative various fan-made by people which add in more stuff, but otherwise that's the general idea.

These usually apply to every Pokemon game from GBA and older, as far as I know, there isn't a TPP NDS hack yet.
