What are the connections between XY and the original series?

Last month, I rewatched the original series. Now, I feel that XY is a whole new series with no connections to the past.

    Misty left Pokèmon years ago.
Brock left Pokèmon like 5 years ago.
Pikachu is no longer a fat mouse.
Team Rocket's original Pokèmon left the series too.
The dangerous wild Pokèmon of the past were changed to cute lovely Pokemon.
Ash's town is not important anymore.
Ash used to call Professor Oak. Now he doesn't.
Nurse Joy and officer Jeny had different designs in the past.
Ash's journey used to be more dangerous and harder than his current journey.
Don't forget the original clothes of Ash.

    So discuss...
If you think that XY is connected to the past, tell us why?
If you think that XY is not connected to the past, tell us why?

    Sorry for my bad English.

It has continuity to the past series as Ash remembered Dawn's Piplup in an episode.
Sorry but the past here is the original series not Diamond and Pearl. OK :)
The past = Kanto region, the orange islands and the Johto region.
Do you know an XY story that is related to the original series? Except Ash wanting to be a master.
Is XY different or similar to the original series?
Mention the connections between the two series?

    Next point:
I said that Ash's journey used to be more dangerous, right? Because of the

Dangerous wild pokèmon of the past: Beedrill, gyarados, vileplume, spearow, etc.

Dangerous events: the attack of the spearow, the sinking ship, the poisonous seaking, the attack of the tentacool, etc.

The current journey is very easy because of

The cute Pokèmon of the present: Tyrunt, Amaura, etc. They supposed to be dangerous dinosaurs.

The safe events of the present: a bag that contains a whole kitchen on it, Berries are present everywhere, etc

There are no real concrete connections. Before he went to Kalos, he remembered all of his friends and took a picture of all his pokemon in one picture other than squirtle and primeape.

You have to remember that he is far away from Kanto. This could be the reason he does not call Prof. Oak.

The pokemon are still dangerous. You have not seen all of them. And pokemon usually aren't dangerous anyway. Beedrill are still aggressive as well, as seen at the start Kalos and the Malamar are evil as hell, trying to destroy the world and mind controlling everyone.

Salamance and Garchomp went on a rampage. The Ice Cream Pokemon were aggressive as hell trying to get their friend/baby back.

The pokemon are still dangerous as they always have been. And he has been in some dangerous situations through the Kalos saga, more so than most other series.

    Spoiler:

And no you are very wrong with Amaura they were not intended to be dangerous, they lived far north of Kalos where they did not have any predators, so they are willing to trust anyone as long as they don't hurt the baby.

You seem to be making conclusion without watching every episode and skipping a lot like crazy.

Well I guess that because of the animation. In the original series:
I saw ash's clothes covered with dust many times. That why I believed that the situation was dangerous.
The current dangerous events don't give me any feeling of danger.
In the original series a thunderstorm is a real problem. In XY, the group search for the nearest Pokèmon center with no worries.

Honestly, having zero references at all to the original series (story references I mean, not just theme songs being remixed) is just stupid. Probably the closest thing we got to an actual reference to the original series was those preview scans for X, Y, and Z where one of them has an icon of Misty on it, and even that was a watermark for the Noticiero PokéClub. I get it, BW, an attempt at effectively remaking the original series, crashed and burned, but did they REALLY have to go to the exact opposite extreme of having zero references to the original series at all?

I think it's a bit too soon to judge XY for the lack of references. BW was essentially a reboot of the series but even that had an entire arc devoted to OS references (Charizard episodes), and the last episode of BW showed all of Ash's traveling companions and all of his Pokémon that were residing at Oak's lab, plus the special episode with Brock and Cilan. What these references have in common is that all of them happened close to the end of the series.

In pokemon anime aren't really connecton like in western version of anime that is divided in 18 seasons.
The 5 series in original version of anime have nothing to do and there aren't much connection between.

You're jaded if you think references to the original series would even be relevant to their target audience. Not to say it wouldn't work — they've built DP around the premise of the first series (and AG) before. Why would you expect they'd chase old stories now?

There have been plenty of instances of long-running shows that feature connections to prior seasons. NCIS is one, as is Arthur.

Not to mention, the target audience can get DVD boxsets or even watch reruns online. Yes, those exist, and I'm doubtful they'd even release boxsets of past seasons if they thought they'd be a financial bomb. They don't need to keep them out.

Besides, even DP at least featured SOME references to the original series. Don't forget they had the Misty Lure that was in Ash's possession, or Ash using his Johto Pokémon. Heck, one episode was even a redo/call-back to when he fought Lt. Surge, who appeared in flashbacks.

@Wobbu: They're actually very close to getting the final badge in Kalos, there's still no real hint at a new game beyond the title of the show being XY&Z and possibly Zygarde Core/Zygarde Cell/10%/100% now, and even if there were a new game coming out, we've got zero hint about there being a Battle Frontier-like facility in the works that would even act as a way to pass time for the new generations. And that's also ignoring the fact that there haven't been any hints at a new generation at all and the horrible ratings, box office receipts, and sales Pokémon is experiencing right now. We definitely can't say it's "far too early to tell" for this. If it was, I don't know before the Cliff Badge, you'd have a point, but right now, they're breezing through Kalos. I won't be surprised if between this December and January 2016 they actually get the final badge and are on their way to the league.
