4th Gen what are event pokemon?

I'm always hearing about them and reading about them but i never understand it. what are they? and the other special types, what ever they may be.

Event Pokemon are Pokemon given at events.
To be more specific - events run by Nintendo or shops are done in which Pokemon (such as Mew, or 10th Anniversary Pokemon) are given out to people who come. These Pokemon don't come from games, but are given by the organiser. Ones from Nintendo or games are considered true events - fan made events are ones done by your average person with a Hacking device of some sort. There's a whole bunch - but mostly in Japan or America.

Event pokemon are pokemon that have a new area. Darkrai, Shayman and Arceus are those ones. To get them I have no clue except to use a GameShark.

Event Pokemon are the Pokemon that are given out in Nintendo Events. Most of them take place in Japan and major cities of America(ex. Atlanta, New York City).

Celebi (Obtainable through Japanese Bonus Disc)
Jirachi (Obatainable through American Colosseum Bonus Disc)
Deoxys
Manaphy (Extra mission in Ranger)
Darkrai
Shaymin

Those are the exact opposite of event Pokemon, since they can be obtained ingame.

Event Pokemon are Pokemon given out at Nintendo events, simple enough. They don't have to be Legendary Pokemon, however- the PCNY Pokemon that knew Wish (such as Chansey and Shelgon), for example, were event Pokemon.
