Was Pokemon Battle Revolution really that bad?

Ok here's the deal. I'm trying to save up money for a used Nintendo Wii, yes I have more than enough for a new one but I don't wanna spend that much money and leave a giant hole in my account...seeing as I don't have a job as of the moment I'm trying to keep as tight-belted as I can.

There aren't alot of games that catch my interest, just the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Super Castlevania IV on the virtual console and Pokemon Battle Revolution.

But I've read many reviews and heard other things about PBR and I gotta ask, was that really that bad? I've been looking for a Stadium/Tournament style Pokemon game for the longest time and I heard PBR is just all battling but was it really as horrible as everyone says?

What exactly is it for those who played the game, what exactly made it not really as good?

It was rushed out very soon after Diamond and Pearl, resulting in the lack of a story mode as Colosseum and XD had, the omission of several features that were showcased in the games' trailer like attacks causing damage to the battle arena, and really inconsistent graphics between the new Gen IV Pokémon, not as good Gen III Pokémon and really blocky and low-quality graphics for Gen II Pokémon. While the online mode, which wasn't brilliant when it came out, I would imagine is almost devoid of people to play against these days, especially when you compare it to how many people play on better designed battle simulators for the PC or just via wi-fi play in Black and White.

Basically it was just a massive disappointment for anyone looking for a Pokémon game on the Wii as good as Colosseum and XD were on the Gamecube

Why the hell would you buy a Wii for Super Castlevania IV? Just buy a real Super Nintendo. You'd get it all much cheaper than a Wii and VC games.

Moving to Spin-Offs. And yes, PBR really is that bad.

Edit: Let me just add, it is playable and an okay game, however I would not make it one of your main reasons for buying a Wii, or you're wasting your money. Like Mega Shock said, you are better off getting the original SNES if your main reason is Castlevania IV. If you had other games in mind that are Wii exclusive though, then go ahead and get it. But PBR shouldn't be one of those reasons, imo.

Is really is pretty bad - very rushed and you can tell that it was a last minute botch job. It's still playable though, so if you were to get it I'd recommend getting a used/cheap copy. :)

I know, I know its a stupid idea. But I'm not really that big of a Castlevania fan, I'm really interested because of the AVGN's 4 part review on it. Since I heard that Super Castlevania IV was one of the best, I figured I'd try that one, and it seems like the quickest way.

Besides, where do you expect me to find a SNES AND the game?

I know, I'm very hesitant about it. But PBR and Castlevania IV aren't the only games, I've also said the new Legend of Zelda coming out in 2 months. But again, where exactly do you think can I find a SNES?

I'd skip PBR, it's really not that good. It had no storyline, so the game got boring fast. I wouldn't recommend wasting money on it tbh.

TBH I'd might just hold off until Xmas. Since I didn't reserve Legend of Zelda or anything I got time. Thanks.

Don't know if you still need/want an answer but, my advice would be just not to bother. I don't know about the Castlevania game, but I know that PBR on it's own isn't worth buying a Wii for, and, though I enjoy my Wii and also can't wait for Skyward Sword, it is likely to be one of, or the last, Zelda game released for the Wii. In E3 Nintendo announced the Wii U, so it makes sense to just hold off until it is released.

Of course, if you still want a Wii, I can heartily suggest Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess especially. Also, Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon: XD, since the Wii can use gamecube games.

Not only that, but WiiWare offers Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Zelda: Majora's Mask that you might like, along with the first 2D Zelda games.

WiiWare also has Pokémon Rumble and Pokémon My Ranch, both good for a little entertainment (and a Phione, and Mew, if you have around 1000 Pokémon).

And of course, there are those widely-played Mario games, and others, that will make sure the Wii's not a bad investment, just you'll likely not see many other huge titles released.

I think PBR is great for Wi-Fi battling, if you want to test out your team. Plus, it's on the big screen ^-^

I already said I wasn't gonna do it.

Well PBR was bad in certain ways. The bad things were 1. If you wanted Kanto Pokemon you had to choose the Girl Pass & if you wanted Sinnoh Pokemon you had to choose the Boy pass. 2. Not much of a story line. It's mainly for just battling you friends in "3D". The only good things were the graphic which are average now a days. So if you just want to battle your friends in "3D" thats fine but I wouldn't call this the best game...

other than playing on wifi to see your Pokemon in 3D, I dont think its worth getting since there really isn't a storymode towards it.

Considering the series has been steadily selling less and less ever since Pokémon Stadium 2 (sure, a million seller, but PBR is behind a lot of Nintendo's better games in terms of sales on the Wii), I'm starting to have my doubts as to whether Nintendo are even that interested in having more Stadium-esque games made.

Think about it. The two biggest things that PBR has going for it are:

    A) See your Pokémon battle in full 3D
    B) Battle online with your Wii, over a better system than on the DS

But the 3DS is more than capable of having a game with 3D battles and an online mode that's much nicer to use than on the DS, because the 3DS is designed for the system to be able to quickly and easily connect to the internet. Roll these dramatic updates into the main games and suddenly you've got a massive selling point.

The 3DS could give us a game like Colosseum that plays online like PBR. So what unique features are left for these games?

One of the reasons why it upset a lot of people was because that it lacked a story, it needed a better pokemon trainer creation system... and last but not least, the promising japanese trailer that led us to believe that pokemon battle revolution was going to have way better animations, obstacles being destroyed from moves, and fluidity camera angles... =(
