Venomoth Switched With Butterfree?

I haven't seen a discussion about this yet. If there was, I didn't know.

Just by looking at this may make you think that perhaps Venomoth and Butterfree switched evolution lines.

Some of you might be thinking though a major "flaw' in this is the fact that caterpillars don't become moths.

But some species like Tomato Hornworm Caterpillar becomes the Spinx Moth or Hawkmoth.

Also, this evolution line may ring a bell:


And like Venomoth, Dustox is a Poison Moth Pokemon.

Another interesting note can learn Psychic Attacks like Confusion and Psybeam.

So what do you think?

Does the possibility of a switched evolution line blow your mind?

There has been a thread about this already but here's my reasoning behind why I do not believe this is so.

There is a theory that when they were making Pokemon G&R they put the Pokemon in order of creation rather then dex order. This is supported by the fact that the first Pokemon in the hexadecimal line was Rhydon who was confirmed by the creators to have been the first Pokemon thought up.

All moths were once caterpillars. What kind of moths do you know of that weren't caterpillars in the beginning?

Magnemite seems to poke a huge, gaping hole in this theory, though perhaps Magnemite was derived from Magneton, rather then the other way around that most people seem to believe today! The mind boggles...

On the thread, seen this come up lots of times, and even noticed it a bit myself, but, I figured it was just one of those things like Deoxys and Staryu (which are both said to come from space, both have a crystalline core with can completely regenerate their bodies, and such, both are red, ext.)

But yeah, I like to think that Venomoth and Butterfree were accidentally switched. Or maybe they were switched on purpose...? Furthermore, I'd prefer if Venomoth had been blue instead. Too many purple lepidopterian Pokemon these days. What about blue instead? :)

Or even better:

Look! RBY/RBG! :D Either a green or yellow Caterpie would work. I think if Caterpie>Metapod>Venomoth had been the line rather than the ones we have today, they would complement each other nicely. Butterfree looks too elegant to have emerged from a Metapod state... :\

But isn't that kinda the point behind cocoons? Not aeshetically appeasing, but do the job? And Venonat is hardly "elegant", is it?

I seriously doubt they were switched.......

the thing with pokemon is that the creators are obviously going to use some of the same similarities between different pokemon and i actually like the fact that caterpie and metapod look like they could evolve in to venemoth and at the same time i'm glad they don't. the creators could have done it on purpose or maybe they didn't notice. and they're going to have some similarities because all five of them are insecst after all.

I dont think Venemoth resembles Caterpie/Metapod very well... Butterfree resembles them more.

Buuuuut Butterfree would make perfect sense evolving from Venonat. They are incredibly similar, their eyes and colour especially.

Maybe this is the creators trying to establish the sense of all Pokemon being related by a common ancestor. The Weedle line, since RBY, have always been considered a counterpart specie to the Caterpie line, and maybe having more bugs sharing similarities was also done to showcase this?

It could have easily ended up that way. :/ But we don't know. we have no confirmation.
