I'm trying to trade pokemon between fire red and emerald but it seems its not working. It says i cannot trade pokemon with another trainer at a far distance or something like that. I've completed Fire Red, doing the missions on the islands and everything but it still doesnt work. Do I need to complete anything in Emerald or am I doing something wrong.

    Please help!

Yeah, you need to have the National Dex before you can start trading between Fire Red and Leaf Green. All you need to do is beat the game and Professor Birch will upgrade your Pokedex as soon as you leave your house.

you also need to have catched 60 pokemons or he wont give you the national dex, me myself only had 40 pokes after the E4 and had to go around and catch like crazy to get to 60

Dude, he's talking about Emerald, not FR. You can have only your starter and he'll give you the dex!

    Well, suming up:

Requirements for Fire Red: -Get the National Dex (beat the league and talk to Oak after catching 60 pokémon)
-Get the Ruby and the Sapphire, and give them to Celio

Requirements for Emerald: -Get the National Dex (beat the league and talk to Birch)

Do you need NationalDex to trade to Ruby too?
i have "only" 170 of 200 pokemon, and you need 200 right...
Try not to hijack other people's threads, but you make a fair question so I will go ahead and answer.

NO. There is no restriction on Ruby/Sapphire. You can trade non-Hoenn Pokemon into RS just as soon as you get the ability to trade.

Also note that there is only a 60 Pokemon limit in Emerald in order to get the NATIONAL Pokedex. The HOENN Pokedex is 202, but in Emerald you only need the 200 (sans Jirachi and Deoxys) to get your Johto starter from Prof. Birch.

Note Part 2: That 60 limit includes evolutions, so your Swampert counts as three Pokemon.

Yep and pokemons you have traded and then back again too...

In Fire Red you also have to have gone to all the islands and talk to Celio and he opens up the option to trade with ruby and saphire and Emerald and you can also catch Mewtwo at Cerulean Cave after you do all that as well
but you need the national dex to go to the rest of the islands and to get the national dex I believe you need to have 60 pokemon as other people have stated ;)
