which start off pokemon would you recommend? i'm thinking of buying pokemon sapphire.

PS: does it have the classic pikachu?

I would recommend Torchic because of its unusual, rare, types and decent stats. It is good against the first couple gyms and is great against the Elite Four. The game has Pikachu, but you have to catch it in the Safari Zone.

Plus Blaziken is simply the coolest. :D

but in my opinion, though I simply adore blaziken, worship the ground he stands on, lays palm leaves in his path, bless his living space, etc., I'd ahve to say I've found Swampert to be more reliable. So if you want some one really cool and really powerful in general, go blaziken. If you want something that is pretty reliable under many situation, go swampert.

Torchic has the hardest time with the first gym and 5th gym, and really no advantage over any others until the Elite 4. Treecho is strong against the first gym, and really it's downhill from there (not of its fault though... just that grass type in general are crappy). Mudkip is strong against the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th (due to learning protect naturally) and 6th gym. Mudkip is probably easiest in-game wise.

However, it shouldn't matter because 2 word will make your starter "Pokemon-God" for ingame purposes: HIGH LEVEL. If you train (EV training or not), you WILL win.

No, if you can get Torchic to evolve and learn Double Kick, then the first Gym is easy. But yah, pick one if it is your favorite one. None are terrible pokemon. They have their strengths and weakenesses. And I said, you can get pikachu, just not as a starter.

im having a hard battle between trecko and mudkip...?! sceptile looks so c00l but swampert is more reliable. of coarse swampert does look good too and sceptile could easily beat swampert. but swampert can learn ice beam saving him of a couple turns. but leaf blade being times 4 weakness to swapert it wont last long. so in the end sceptile wins :confused:this is so hard!!! iside of venusaur, sceptile and swampert r my favorite starters!! can someone help me on this :D

Roxanne is easy regardless of who you start with; there are plenty of Grass?types who work very well, so you don't have to worry about having a Fire starter. Torchic, dude. Can't do without that Blaziken XD

I choose Torchic because it's cute (lol, not good reason) and because (here comes the good ol' reason!) Torchic evolves into Combusken. Combusken learns Double Kick and knocks out poor Roxanne. Then when you face Brawly use an old flying attack and take him down.

Meh. I just use Dustox against him. Psychic attack and serious defensive power against Fighting attacks? haha?

treeko is realy fast, mudkip is realy slow...

after careful thinking i choose trecko with mudkip VeRy cLoSe to trecko.in the charts i like them like this: :D
    :20: :10.00
    :18: :9.99 1/3
    :19: :6.57
    :chu: :4.83

Well, If you are a friend has another game, get mudkip/treeco, then trade with them, then restart the game, get the other one then trade back.

    Mudkip. makes the game easy and can learn Ice attacks makes the dragon dude (Drake?) a breeze. but then you have to deal with Steaven -_-;;

    Like I said: high level

a low level Torchic will have a hard time winning. But if you're high lvl enough, you'll be fine with anything ^-^

    Sceptile > Overheat + STAB ;p

I can beat the entire game using only Mudkip and crew. The only time I have trouble is the 2nd rival encounter, but Bide can handle that (though Marshtomp will lose most of its HP by the time bide kicks in, still useful).

Treecko really should have learned another powerful move on its own, like Crunch by leveling up as opposed to strictly egg move. That would make it much more useful, it stinks having only Leaf Blade as a powerful offensive move while Blaziken gets Double Kick/Sky Uppercut and Swampert learns Earthquake.

Treeko is the best starter, make it female so you can breed Crunch into the baby Pokemon, then wait until it learns Leaf Blade, then teach it the TMs Earthquake and Dragon Claw. Then you have the best moveset for Sceptile (assuming it is evolved :p)

    Good combination,
Im going to have to say Treeko, Cause Treeko was my starter, and It was and still is EXTREMMLY powerful! And I wouldnt say torchic. Cause if you get that near a. Mudkip is somewhat the worst if you evovle it. Beacause of its water, Ground element

    I like Mudkip :)
Swampert has the most balanced stats, is weak only to grass, can dole out great physical *and* special attacks, has good HP, Def and Sp. Def, and looks the coolest. He has cute fins and whiskers. And he's blue....

the trecko that came out of the egg wont have earthquake nor dragon claw. see u dont understand most of the important detail in egg moves. if trecko(or any other baby pkmn) cant learn the TM earthquake than it wont have it wen it hatched.well not even sceptile learns earthquake.well trecko wont learn dragon claw thru eggs either since it cant learn it thru TM nor egg moves either. torchic wont learn earthquake either. but blaziken can. mudkip wont learn earthquake bcuz it cant learn it thru lv. nor thru TM. every one knows swampert can.
see only baby pokemon like aron and ryhorn can learn it thru egg process bcuz they can learn thru TM or thru lv. but ull have to waste a TM teaching sceptile dragon claw and blaziken earthquake.
