[Question] Thoughts on Kieran?

    What's your opinion on the DLC character, Kieran? I don't know if I'm right on this but I've noticed some people are pretty divided when it comes to my boy, and I'm genuinely curious as to why some people don't like him. (I think it's because of his character arc, but I still want to know.)

    As you can tell from my username (Suguri is his Japanese name), I am a Kieran fan; I grew hyperfixated on him for some time after I finished the story for The Indigo Disk around December 2023. :P I found him relatable since I've dealt with the stuff he's gone through before, and I think Game Freak did a great job writing his character. and he's also very cute IMO (//w//) No other character has clicked with me like he did...wowzers!
     
    Goes with slightly negative. Never particularly liked jerk rivals. Appreciated them showing reasons why Kieran would act like that. Blames the plot somewhat on this. Wanted to tell Kieran the truth. Forces you to lie. Disliked the plot from then on. Dragged all the characters down with it.

    Seemed like an over-sized response as well. Barely met Kieran. Went on a months-long revenge arc over this. Also ignored what Ogerpon wanted and acted callously towards the other students. Earned no favors for that.
     
    Pretty much everything Devalue already said for me, although I'd say my feelings on him fall further below slightly negative.

    I hated the fact that the game makes the player lie (as I've said before), but his response to it is drastically over the line of reasonability, especially considering the circumstances of how him and the player first meet. They've known each other for like a single day before he goes all 'you were my best friend and you betrayed me... >.>' like chill lol. I get being upset at the player for taking Ogerpon away, but treating everyone besides his sister and the player like trash because of his overreaction made him extremely unlikeable for me and I honestly don't even consider him a 'rival'. Rivals are mutually chosen, he was just a butthurt child who had a grudge to me based on the way they wrote the story for him. You don't want to know my feelings on how he acted in the Area 0 crystal caves... >.> And I hope I wasn't too harsh. It's cool that some people like him too, it makes the effort the people working on the game put in worth it. :p
     
    I didn't like him. His sudden personality change was poorly handled and too cringe for my taste.

    The only storyline and character I actually liked was Arven's. Penny/Team Star was a mess. And well, Nemona was ok I guess, super basic, but keeping it simple was probably the right choice since she's basically a Goku-type character, a deeper story wouldn't have worked.
     
    Pretty much agree with everyone stating that his reaction was excessive. However, if the story was written differently, I would have appreciated seeing his character development going towards being the champion anyway.
    Though, Game Freak should have allowed us players to gift him Ogerpon. Imo bro deserved Ogerpon from the beginning. I like the felt frustration of "yeah you're the one who cares the most about something/someone, but that something/someone chooses someone else", it's relatable and life is like that tbh. However, the "villain arc" was handled quite poorly.
