Pokémon Presents 2025 reveals Pokémon Champions and more on Legends: Z-A

After a whole year, we have news about the next main title! Pokémon Champions is a new title under development and is a battle simulator focused title.
[PokeCommunity.com] The new Pokémon Presents is out!

(it's only been 1 year, but, y'know)

Pokémon Champions is fascinating.
It's giving Battle Revolution and Stadium vibes.
If this is a Stadium-style game that connects directly to Home instead of a specific generation, then I can see a lot of hours being sunk into this game.

  • Spin-off news: Plays none of that.
  • Scarlet/Violet news: Eh. Announced no interesting Tera Raids.
  • Champions: Looks like just online battles, no fancier than what already exists. Expects it to be Pokemon's battling platform to connect all the games, much like Home being the trading platform. Could be more, though. Zero interest if just online battles.
  • Legends Z-A: Hm. Takes one step closer to anime battles with things like attack reach, area of effect, and dodging with your Pokemon. Wants that in turn-based form, though, not real-time. Lowers interest a little. What is the goal in this game, also? Teased a promotional match, so beating some kind of Champion?

Is pleased to not see Generation 10 here. Counts Z-A as the November game, apparently. (Said late 2025. Fully expects November.)

I'm mainly interested in that Meowscarada raid starting tomorrow atm tbh.

For Z-A the way you approach and throw balls at a Pokemon looks a lot more rugged atm than it was in PLA. Kinda looked like there was some sort of lock on going on too. I miss a lot of Poke Ball throws in PLA but at least it's actually me throwing them lol
Was kinda hoping they'd show a new mega, but alas.

Well, after looking at those boring protagonist designs (and no news on clothes customizations), my interest in Z-A sank like a rock. Player trainer design plays a huge role in whether I'm going to enjoy, or even buy, a Pokemon game, petty as that may sound. And the Z-A designs don't cut it for me. So yeah, I'm probably gonna skip them.

How the hell do you go from Serena to... whatever they showed in the trailer?

I don't care about anything else from the trailer. Not even that new Pokemon battling game, since I lost interest in creating battle-worthy teams after 6th gen (and since I completely skipped both 7th and 9th gens, there's a LOT of mechanics, new moves and species, etc., about the current competitive scene that I'm unfamiliar with and don't care to learn about.)

I don't have high expectations for anything coming out of this franchise, but I had a glimmer of hope since Kalos was supposed to be the "fashionable" region. And of course, in Pokemon tradition, they completely mess that up. I suppose I was stupid for having any hope at all. I'm not at all surprised that nothing else in the trailer caught my interest, though. XD Gale of Darkness was the last spinoff I had any interest in.

I wish I didn't have such low expectations or opinion of this franchise. But when their last decent-quality game was, ironically, X/Y from over a decade ago, what do you expect?

I'm sorry, this has been bugging me all day but why on earth are there two starters from the same reigon this time around? I don't have a specific problem at all with it being the Johto ones (love Megainum and Feraligatr, while my least fav of the three, is aalright) but...why two from the same reigon? And to top it all off the starter with my all-time least fav (and, imho, most ugliest overall) final evo completes the line up, so that pretty much limits my decision to either of the two Johto ones only. Sorry for the rant, been holding this in all day since the live present vid, no idea what goes on at Gamefreak but what a really baffling decision.

Just not a good selection at all this time compared to Legends Arceus, and if they do get mega evos...well its gonna make me mighty unhappy seeing Emboar of all starters get one

Probably wanted to add new Megas and also not use any starters already featured at the start of Switch games. Leaves the following:
  • Generation 1: None (Megas for all)
  • Generation 2: Chikorita and Totodile. (Used Cyndaquil in Arceus.)
  • Generation 3: None (Megas for all)
  • Generation 4: None (In Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl)
  • Generation 5: Snivy and Tepig. (Used Oshawott in Arceus.)
  • Generation 6: Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. Expected at least one of these, to be fair. Evidently wanted to avoid actual Kalos Pokemon, similar to Arceus avoiding Sinnoh Pokemon.
  • Generation 7: Litten and Popplio. (Used Rowlet in Arceus.) Probably avoided Litten because of Incineroar already dominating.

Has not seen the remaining Generation 2 and 5 starters available from the start of the game since...June 2012, the release date of Black 2 / White 2. (2009 for Heartgold / Soulsilver.) Expects several Pokemon in the game chosen for similar reasons. Mentions Patrat as one such Pokemon not in any Switch game. Confirmed Furfrou (who belongs here). Bets on the elemental monkeys sneaking their way in too.

I think that there's still a good chance that there will be customization in Legends ZA. Except for ORAS, every mainline game since XY, including Legends Arceus, has had customization (even if a few games left something to be desired). This is the first bit of information about the game we've gotten at all since its announcement a year ago, they weren't going to give us everything all at once. And you would think that of all games, the one where we return to for the first time in 12 years to the region that was the first to have character customization, this would be the one to absolutely have it.

But if it ends up being that somehow Legends ZA doesn't, then we're getting in your Serena truck, driving to Game Freak HQ, and doing crime :coolrim:

I'm hyped for Pokemon Champions and Legends Z-A. Can't wait for either of them! Champions sounds like it could be a dream come true, especially after all Pokemon are supported. I hope they allow for a way to transfer Pokemon without completely resetting their moves, yet still uphold discontinued moves for balance reasons. As for Z-A, the new battle system seems interesting. I'm glad that the games take place after XY, which is what I was thinking they'd go for. Exploring the past fit well for Sinnoh, but different regions have different concepts worth exploring differently. I'll probably go with Chikorita for my starter.

I kinda like the idea of Pokémon Champions, but I don't pay for pokémon home... So I would have 0 pokemon to use if it's the only way to have pokemon for battling
There's one free box available in Pokemon Home for free users.

Should be possible. Said "Connect" between Home and Champions, versus Deposit, Withdraw, and Send for other games. Allows you to select what moves you have when transferring Pokemon into Home, if memory serves. Only changes them to level-up moves if you do transfer them between generation AND do nothing, correct? (Acknowledges that to be a hassle, though, particularly with a large number of Pokemon.)

I have exactly one thing to note that isn't related to PLZA… that is in regards to the new pack for Trading card game pocket. I still am not done with opening the space time decks… I really do think it's too soon for a new deck at least in my opinion.

As for PLZA, not bad for what was revealed thus far. That said, I'll echo the previous statement that the PLZA protagonists do not look good, but I would also add that for me, it's great that their designs aren't good because it means there probably would be less creepy fanart of them. However, I'm very sure we'll definitely get customization choices for the protagonists in the actual game.

I certainly did not expect the PLZA starters, like at all. Two from the same generation? But hey since my current favourite starter is amongst them, I'm fine with that. I'm interested to see what would be done with the final evos.

Staring at Pokémon Champions and thinking out loud:

"Please don't have MTX, please don't have MTX, please don't have MTX. . . "

I mean, I'd be okay with it being a membership based game with a limited free plan (similar to Pokémon HOME), but having membership and still offering MTX (micro transactions) would make them look like Jagex and RuneScape.

Either go premium and charge a one time fee, or become F2P with cosmetic only MTX (trainer customization, pokéball animations, battle arenas, all sorts of cool stuff you'd expect to be charged for).

If this is gonna replace Mainline Games as the VGC Game of choice (in favour of adding new and unique features, like PLAZ/PLA Battle System, or something completely new later down the line), then it would make sense to charge a one time fee and keep adding new gimmicks to it ever new generation.

Just my 2gp.

Oh there was a Presents? Huh. Didn't even notice.

And checking on what was revealed, I can understand why: pretty much a lot of nothingburger. Graphics haven't progressed or solved, no obvious Mega Flygon announcement to draw in the internet, world still looks empty.

The Kommo-o release trailer for Pokémon: Close Combat, which aired just about the same day, was noticeably more interesting (and it's a pretty fun fangame).
