2nd Gen The Magnet Train

The Magnet train is a cross-regional train that can take you to and from Goldrenrod City to Saffron City, and vice-versa, however you need a pass to get on it, and getting the pass requires you to do the Copycat Girl's sidequest.

Did you ever ride the magnet train? I never really did, honestly. I only did a few times to see the cute train cutscene in HG/SS. I've seen in Gen II as well, but it's not as cute.

I thought it was a neat, but nothing groundbreaking. It would've been cool to have as a part of your journey travelling by train to different previously inaccessible cities (which might become a reality in SwSh).

I rode the magnet train alot and it's a fast way to get through Johto to Kanto or vice versa.

Considering Johto is rather easy to traverse by foot and Goldenrod acts as a sort of "central hub," it was a well-placed train to help the player get from one region to another, straight to Kanto's own "central hub," Saffron. It's also a neat nod to the bullet trains of Japan. It does make me wonder, however, what the real "purpose" of the Magnet Train was. Was the Magnet Train (and the inability to Fly from one region to the other) included for "lore" purposes (as it would be "unrealistic" for a Pokémon to Fly that far)? Or was Flying between regions difficult to program, and thus the Magnet Train (and the S.S. Aqua) became a necessity?
