3rd Gen The Gen I Remakes

As you know, the Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green games are direct remakes of the original Pokemon Red, and Blue games.

[PokeCommunity.com] The Gen I Remakes

That being said, did you enjoy the general remakes that they did, for these games? What were some of the stuff that impressed you, or did not impress you? Would you prefer the original games over the Fire Red and Leaf Green games, or, would you happily stick to these games? What about the music; did you generally enjoy the remixes of the music from Gen I, to FRLG?

Any other thoughts? Feel free to share em! :3

I like using these games in Challenges, and I think the reason is that it's an easy game to just grind through without too much thought, but also looks pretty good on the eyes. For what it's worth, I do really enjoy the games. The best feature by far is the Vs Seeker. I wish it was in more games, but it works very well for this one, as it seems much easier to get under leveled than it was in the originals (I did a Water Monotype in Blue and had to do 0 grinding to finish it, but in my LeafGreen challenges I always end up grinding by the last Gym). The game does have some glaring flaws though. The main one is the complete lack of story enhancement. It's almost literally just lifted from the originals. The only real change in story is post game, where you get to go meet the future admin of Team Rocket. I have to admit, these games have impressive post game content compared to most Pokemon games. One thing I would have liked changed, but completely understand why it wasn't, was the limitation to the 151 Pokedex. The biggest loss to this imo is Crobat, who would make all the wild Zubat seem a lot more valuable. The lack of ghost, steel, dark, and dragon Pokemon in the game make it feel really bland in a lot of ways. Especially for Monotypes.

I did enjoy the remakes, I found Ruby & Sapphire to be the better of Gen III but FRLG were still good. I find them much more engaging than the originals for several reasons, and they're pretty stable to run on emulators which is good for challenges and what not. (:

As a child who was introduced to Pokemon from the beginning, these remakes were wonderful! I thought they did a great job of remaking some of the greatest games in the history of video games. I loved the new features they added without taking away from the originality of the older versions. The additions of the Sevii Islands was definitely my favorite feature though. If I had to rate these games I would give them a 8/10 or maybe even a 9. Very fun remakes!

I never played the originals, and while I think that FRLG is far from being my favorite Pokemon game, I still thought they were pretty solid remakes. Kanto looked really nice and I like how it didn't use RSE's graphic style (as they were both in Generation 3). Plus, the addition of the Sevii Islands seemed like a really great way to spice up something that was old and familiar.

Having played both the original and remake, hopefully I can contribute a fair amount to this thread. Music/BGM wise, nothing ever beats the original music on the Gameboy, it just has that certain vibe to it. One thing that I feel that they really did a nice job with were the graphics in general. Really pleasing on the eyes, gives and nice and cheery feel. I didn't get that same feeling when playing through RSE, in fact I didn't like the graphics at all. The sprites were definitely a league apart from those in the original version.

Also like the fact that in FRLG there was actually some post E4 plot in the form of the Sevii Islands, which was a nice touch and something that I really enjoyed. Overall, it was definitely a well executed and great remake on their part, very little to nitpick about.

As someone who grew up with the original games, when I first heard about FireRed and LeafGreen in an issue of Nintendo Power, I was quite hyped for them. And when I got FireRed back in Christmas of 2004 (dear god that's almost ten years I'm freaking old now), I found that my hype was not unfounded - FireRed was a great remake of Red.

First off, I really like the way the game looks. Taking full advantage of the Game Boy Advance color palette, it turns Kanto into a bright and colorful area. I mean, I find Hoenn from the same Generation in R/S/E to be a bit more visually appealing, but FR/LF does have a nice graphical style.

I always liked the music from the original games, and I find that the remakes have great remixes. Though, I will say that Lavender Town sounds creepier in the original games. That's just me though.

Gameplay is still as solid as ever and the additions from Ruby and Sapphire were rather welcome. Plus, I felt the addition of the Sevii items were pretty cool.
