The DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is criminal

Despite the fact that I'm eagerly waiting for the DLC because the games feel unfinished, it still feels like Game Freak is forcing us to pay for something that should have already been in the game. DLC should be bonus content to add more to a complete game, not having to pay more to complete an unfinished game at a later date. The DLC hinted at the other legendary Pokémon responsible for the Tera Type phenomenon, but we have to pay $35 to encounter it. Also, they give out Hisuian Zoroark as a bonus, but it would also be a Pokémon that you can transfer from Pokémon HOME when it comes compatible.

just saying you do not have to buy the second part and the first part separate
once you buy the dlc you will get the first part in fall and then the second part in winter

    my regards, clodsire

pay for something that should have already been in the game.

That summarizes what 'DLC' actually means in tons of games: chunks of content that should have been part of the game, but were held back so that developers could release a more rushed and unfinished game, and get players excited because after waiting a few months (and paying the additional price) they can play the missing stuff that completes the game.

But we're talking about the company that since the very beginning had the guts to sell two (or even three) versions of the same game, with just minor differences, as if they were two/three entirely separate games. Their policies were allways far from being customer-friendly.

Its crazy Nintendo thinks this game is worth 135 dollars and it still isn't complete.
(Adding on the 60 dollar game and 2 dlcs)

Add on the current game breaking bug when buying this dlc or connecting to Go.

Apparently the 30 is for both dlc.

But yeah, it's super overpriced. Given raids and newly added Pokémon will be compatible, and all the bugs with it, I may wait for them to release a cartridge like they did for SwSh's DLC

I'd rather pay 35 euros for a pair of DLC than have them come with a Pokemon Scarlet/Violet 2.0 with a handful of changes for a full 60 euros.

Idk how big the DLC area will be, but they're calling it a new region this time, with it's own name. Whereas the SwSh DLC was still part of Galar, rather than it's own region.

Side note: Videogames, including Pokemon, have never been cheap, honestly.
I still remember Red/Blue/Yellow being 90 guilders back when they originally released. I had to save up for quite a while to buy them myself as my parents refused to spend that kind of money on a videogame back then.

This is better than a third game but still feels really overpriced to me, we felt the exact same about SwSh's DLC even after playing it. There's also an issue that people who pre-order it are getting their saves deleted which is not helping the press for the DLC at all. I'm still curious what they'll include and will probably still get it after saving my money, but I'm just kind of disappointed to have to spend $30 to see it.

If it's a new region with a decent amount of new content though maybe it would justify the price tag. I am really curious where it will go regardless.

This is true but they - like many things - have outstripped the price of inflation significantly with the switch to the…er... Switch haha

When I first saw criticisms about the graphics I thought "what do you expect? It's Pokémon!" because all those other games don't have anything like the amount of unique living beings to model - approx. 600 in SwSh once DLC are included I think, all of which were available not only in battle but walking in IoA too. So despite moving to more powerful hardware and being playable on a TV, I never expected 8K resolution Pikachu fur. I don't think most of the fans did, but some critics seem to.
SV its even better because they launch with every single 'mon in the game in the overworld. But games really need to be shipped in a condition to be played, and like sadly a lot of studios out there, GF **** the bed. They appear to have actively made their game worse with the latest updates, and people who buy the DLC or use the new Go interactivity, or just continue playing as normal, are finding themselves with no save data. So there's absolutely no confidence that the DLC will not also be janky, hence an £80 / €$90 game seems very much overpriced.

I'm also frustrated that I'll have to wait so long if I want the DLC on an included cartridge, as physical media are far less likely to break than a console and are generally - unless you're swapping your games a LOT - a lot easier. That and despite SV checking for an internet connection at start-up and being ever more geared towards online play in general, they still don't utilise the cloud save feature, making all the bugs more devastating to players.

    I do think you're right - content-wise - about DLC > 3rd versions though!

Oh I fully agree with that. As you already stated that's not a problem with GF specifically either. I usually wait a month or two before playing a new game just so the most urgent stuff gets patched. 😅

I was thinking of pre-ordering the DLC, but it's a good thing I haven't yet I guess. I haven't even touched Go in like at least a year =P
What's this about playing normally and losing save data though? =o
I've mainly been in Shield doing shiny breeding, but I did play Violet for a bit recently to do the Iron Leaves/Walking Wake raids.

Yeah apparently the February update means its just possible to lose your save randomly, it may be the people citing Go connection / DLC pre-purchase are just trying to see a pattern where there isn't one.

Pretty alarming, the only quite from support I've seen is "use HOME"…which is a crappy service that seriously botched compatibility with BDSP and isn't available for SV yet!
I'm just going to pray I'm one of the majority of lucky ones and keep looking for my Timid Walking Wake to use my Lure Ball on.

Not sure about them always being expensive. Before the switch new games were 39.99 on release.
