The battle backgrounds

In every main series Pokémon game since Generation III, there have been different backgrounds when you're in battle (RBY and GSC had backgrounds but they were always simple white). Some battles may take place in grasslands, others in caves, others on water... And the legendary Pokémon of the game might get their own awesome battlefield just for themselves, which was particularly the case in Generation VI. And in that one, the Elite Four and Champion get visuals that go along well with the rooms they reside in. Have any particular battle backgrounds stood out to you as just looking really cool?

For me, if you ask me this question, Iris' in B2W2 will always come to mind, that one is just sick with those multicolor beams. And I can say the same about the entire Team Flare event late in XY, with Xerneas in an awesome rainbow field and Yveltal in a starry dimension, then Lysandre in a volcanic lava pit.

How about you? Which backgrounds leave you more awestruck in particular? Discuss.

Yes~! Iris' background in BW2 was really memorable. The other backgrounds that really stood out to me were Cynthia's in Platinum (mostly because of the intensity of the moment) and the Primal Groudon/Kyogre backgrounds in ORAS.

Battle backgrounds, especially the unique ones, go a long way toward making a battle seem so much better and/or important.

It's a really nice touch, but I wish the backgrounds can be more than eye candies (I'm aware that items can be obtained by using certain moves in XY, but I want more). For example, using Water-type moves in the sea should boost the said move. While using Rock-type moves in a rocky terrain should boost the accuracy of Rock moves?

Additionally, they should be available when battling with friends! Instead of this generic green room.~

I'm glad I'm not the only one that pays attention to the small details~

I do like the Champion's battle backgrounds, but I really like the nature/sea ones. Those always make it seem real that 'oh, we're in the sea' or 'we're actually in a forest, cool'. Little things like that really help keep you engaged in what's going on in the game.

I always love how the backgrounds showed which environment you were in, and OR/AS stepped it up even further with unique backgrounds for the likes of Cycling Road, Sea Mauville, New Mauville, Mt. Pyre, Magma/Aqua Hideout and such. Another of my faves was Champion Iris with her colourful scene in B2/W2.

I don't really pay too attention to backgrounds, but i really like the unique backgrounds themes, like the forest themes when we are in forests, caves themes and most importantly Seawater theme(So beautiful!) it made me motivate to play game.... ..and ..game... don't.. stop...haha.

Yeah, it was nice that ORAS added new backgrounds in areas like New Mauville and the Sky Pillar. I will say it got rather boring seeing that same black background with the gray floor in so many locations in Generation VI, so it was neat that they gave certain places some good flare to them.

Like some of us here, I don't pay much attention to battle backgrounds, either, to be honest. Though, I do kind of dislike those that have either an orange or yellow shade to it (such as the backgrounds we see when sun's starting to set), as I find them to be sort of... depressing, in a way!

I never really take much notice to the backgrounds, but occasionally they stand out to me when they're especially unique or colorful. The background at Mt. Chimney was amazing. Also, likewise to what a few others have said, I thought the background during the battle with Iris was very well done. Along with the music, it made the whole battle feel really intense :)

I never really paid much attention to the backgrounds, except in D/P/Pt, where the colours changed depending on time of day. Yes, I do realise that happens in the newer games, but D/P's had that whole..."discovering a new thing" feel to it.

If the Pokemon games had backgrounds like Earthbound does, though...well I'd pay a lot more attention to them. =)

I love that the backgrounds are getting better with each generation though I've only really appreciated the nature ones until now... I'm going to pay more attention to the Elite Four and stuff as to be honest if it hadn't been mentioned in this thread I wouldn't even recognised that they had unique ones!

Battle backgrounds never really caught my eye until I played the 5th Gen games. I think it's cool having little animations that move in the sidelines while you battle; it gives them a more livelier feel, whether it's from the dark wind blowing in the air or spotlights moving around the stage. I don't really favor a certain background over the others, but I like how diverse they are in the newer games, most notably with BW2 and ORAS.
