Let's say I transfer my Tangela from my Emerald/FR game to my Diamond. When it evolves, is it possible for it to have the ability "Leaf Guard"?

hard to say. i think that it'll end up keeping the same ability, though...

Well, someone traded me one with Leaf Guard as ability, the starnge thing is that it's profile says it came from Hoenn o_0

Edit: I meant, someone traded me a Tangrowth with Leaf Guard.

If a Pokemon is not fully evolved, is transfered fromt he third gen, and has gained a second new ability in the 4th Gen, their is a 50% chance that when it evolves, It'll get the second, newer ability. I'm currently planning to transfer alot of Softboiled Clefairy to my Pearl, saving, and then use Moon STone on them to see which ones gett Magic Guard. So in other words, It's perfectly legal to have a Softboiled Magic Guard Clefable.

One-Stage Pokemon, Like Miltank, are not so lucky. Thus Fire-Punching Scrappy Miltank is impossible to get.

K, thanks for the Help ^^

you will have to breed it to get the ability you want. clorophill is much better though because it rases speed.

You can just evolve it and chance it.

Chlorophyll and Leaf Guard can be equal. Even though Chlorophyll can raise speed during Sunny Day, you can still get Paralyzed and effectively lose that boost, while Leaf Guard would protect against all status conditions - including Sleep induced by Rest (meaning a full heal).

Chlorophyll gives Tangrowth an extra speed boost during a Sunny Day so it can use Solarbeam and Hidden Power to sweep.

It's really what you want - defense or offense.

well he nailed it right there...

personally I wouldn't care witch of the abilities you get (unless he is part of an EV trained team and all of your team is all phy. sweepers then go with defensive, but if they are all walls then go with offensive.)

I have a Blaziken transfered from my Ruby that's from Kanto, that's where the Egg hatched, it's nothing to be scared about, your Pokemon will keep it's information from where the Egg hatched originally usually, so they must have bred it on Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald... I think if the egg is bred on the game it keeps where it was originally "spawned" when it hatches and gets transfered... I can't confirm that any time soon, but I know that the Torchic hatched in Kanto and I transfered it from my Ruby game.

I know it -_-( I have almost all the pkmn games). I just wanted to know it it was possible to get a Tangrowth with Leaf Guard even if it comes from Hoenn...

true, fair point ensign. but chlorophyll doubles its base speed. if it gets paralyzed it will cut its base speed by 50%. its still much better than leaf guard if your up against a fire type.
