Starter Pokemon Tier List!

found this from somewhere, and i wanted this community's takes on it!

everyone knows about tier lists at this point right? rank stuff on tiers based on how much you like/hate them? it's been all the rage for a while, so why not do it for something Pokemon related? for now let's do something basic, like starter Pokemon hehe. i'm sure everyone has their personal opinons on this.

then share your images and discuss opinons! images might be a tad big enough to need spoilers, though i'm not entirely sure on that so i'll just recommend everyone to use spoilers anyway. if you wanna downscale your photos to not need it then be my guest as well!

i'll get the ball rolling hehe. i got a lot of guys on the B tier because i'm mostly indifferent towards them. and ofc my opinion on my top starters of all time hasn't changed at all.

Not taking into account how good/strong/useful they are because in that sense it's pretty obvious that those with Megas and/or superb hidden abilities would win, I'm just judging by design.

So I did mine taking the entire line into account with C being "average". They are also in order in each tier, for example, Torchic is my all time favorite so it's first.

So far: I think Bulbasaur is the top starter on average!

Yeah, Samurott ruins the entire line for me, plus, I like Serperior and Emboar so much more that I would never consider using it 😬

tbh totodile can fit into the "pretty cool" slot depending on the day and my mood, but it's usually that or indifference. cyndaquil can easily be swapped with charmander now that i think about it.

Yeah this might annoy some people xD Take C as the standard for 'average' and also this goes for the whole line (but realistically I like all of the starters, just some much more than others).

There is no other starter for me than Totodile, his lil cute face is just so perfect :3 Feraligatr is also just such a cool beast.

Yes I like the whole of the Sobble, Chespin and Litten lines. Idc how weird Drizzile is, Sobble is adorable and no one can tell me a secret agent pokemon with finger guns and a sniper town is the most ridiculous and coolest thing ever. I love cats so Litten was just the perfect start for me, Incineroar is also badass af and Torracat too :3.

Bulbasaur is the best of the OG starters without contest too, just ahhhh he's so happy and cool :3 Chimchar also is my original starter and I've loved Infernape ever since but Torterra is also super cool.

Brionne is the ugliest starter Pokemon so far, Chikorita is more boring than an irl conversation with me, the Fennekin line weirds me out and yes I do think Charizard is severly overrated.

To round things off, Cyndaquil line would be higher but idk I wish there design had more and modern Typhlosion is just an eyesore. Froakie line would also be higher but I have an irrational hatred of Ash-Greninja and it just ruins the Pokemon for me (I still love it though).

All in all I love any and all starters, just some of them I have personal reason to like/dislike.

was a little tough to place some. I love Chespin a ton for example, but really don't like Quilladin and Chesnaught. decided to put it at the top anyway since I really loved the first form in the anime. my least favorite starter line altogether is probably Grookey's.

Seeing someone like Chikorita and Bayleef so much makes me happy, since often they're pretty low on people's lists. Chikorita is too cute!!

For me I think its not the fact I don't think Chikorita and Bayleef aren't cute, I think they're really adorable. Idk they just don't give me the same sorta excitement of using that the others do (I also just find Meganium pretty goofy).

I remember the first time trying to use the line in HG/SS I gave up halfway through. That being said my most recent playthrough was with Meganium and I was pretty impressed at the end, it also just might be the Johto level slog to me. I can feel myself warning up to them though, they would probably be dead bottom if you asked me a year ago so we'll see :3

I always really liked Bayleef and Chikorita and I consider them to be some of the cutest and best designed Pokemon ever, I also like Meganium but I do wish that they kept a "leaf on head" design for Meganium as well instead of going with those antennae things.

Chikorita line also isn't as useless in battle as a lot of people think and it can be used very effectively if you know how to play to it's strengths. Chikorita line isn't meant to be used like most other starters to just mindlessly attack with your most powerful moves, instead you have to have a strategy and think more when using this starter line and instead of only attacking you also have to know how to use status and support moves. The unique battle style that the Chikorita line requires to be used effectively is also one of the reasons why I like it so much since I like a little more strategy in my battles instead of just using the strongest moves available, this is also the reason why I like Bulbasaur and Snivy lines a lot too because they also promote a more strategic approach to battles just like Chikorita line.

Grass types tend to be a bit more on the defensive/support side, and I always found that to be effective and fun in its own right! So I def agree here 👍

I've never even played Sw/Sh but I put Scorbunny towards the top because its design is pretty cute.

Birbs are king.

If we're NOT ignoring evolutions then disregard this - Piplup is the only one that remains in the top tier, and several get bumped down for going from quadruped to biped. Anything with Fighting as a secondary type gets put right to the bottom.
