What Is a sprite?
First of all, a sprite is an image of a character in the game, well for the pokemon games, its both, trainers and pokemons. When you sprite two characters together, it is called, sprite, splice or fusion. Spriting is Pixel Art.
The 'Rules' of spriting.
You must follow the 'rules'of spriting. If not, it means you are not progressing, and getting more experience.
1 Do NOT copyflip unless the other pokemon's body is different. For example, do not copy one of charizard's wings, and flip it and put it on the other side of the other's sprite.
2 Do NOT save as .jpg format, even if someone is going to kill you, do NOT save as .jpg, because it ruins the sprite's quality.
3 Do NOT sprite sprites with different styles. For Example, It means do NOT mix pokemon sprite with mario ones, that's very wrong.
4 Sprites are very small, and for the love of God, do not resize them, I repeat, DO NOT RESIZE THEM. If you want to work with them, just zoom in.
5 When Using paint, do not sprite using the bucket tool, the only things you need, are the 1 Pixel Pencil and the Eraser Tool. And for the love of Arceus, resize the white frame so it fits the sprite.
6 Recolor the whole sprite till it has one color scheme. It won't look good if it had both colors of the pokemons.
7 If you find yourself stuck because you want to add a part, and it doesn't fit, just try scratching it.

This is a great recoloring tutorial. You can just skip putting the palettes, just do it directly from a pokemon to another, just watch and you will see what I mean:

Well That's everything for now, I hope this gets stickied.
In my opinion it is very helpful.
I know there is another thread like this one, but I think this one is simple.
