Southpaw movie is based on the story of a boxer, Billy Hope who lived in New York with his wife Maureen and daughter Leila. Billy is world Heavyweight Champion and one day during the world heavyweight champion match he injured and his wife convinced him to retire from boxing but Billy doesn't want to retire at this stage of the life. One day in the charity event Billy is taunted by upcoming boxer, Miguel "Magic" Escobar, leading to a brawl in which Maureen is accidentally shot and killed by Miguel's brother Hector, who flees. After the death of his wife Billy goes to dispersion and starts abusing Alcohol and drugs. From that behavior Billy lost his World Heavyweight Champion title and also he loses the Custody of his daughter Leila.
As he friend referral Billy gets the job in Gym that is owed by seasonal boxer Titus Tick and lately Titus become the Billy's coach. For the help of Billy's former manager Jordan Mains he arranges a fight between Billy and Miguel for world championship match. For the Tick advice Billy is able to remain calm and keep Miguel at bay until the fight is over. At the end Billy is declared as winner by a split-decision and he and he got the custody of Leila and she forgives his past mistakes and they embrace
