    Where is this bad boy?

Probably catching every legendary in the anime i bet.

    post your thoughts

He probably has a Sandslash by now and maybe he is now in charge of an official Kanto gym?

I'm not so sure yet. The only gym he could be in charge of is the Viridian Gym, since Sandslash is a ground type. Giovanni's still probably the gym leader there.

Technically, no. Agatha's acting as the temporary Gym Leader until they find a new one.

One of these gen's, they should have a main character go through the Kanto gyms again, and AJ should be one of the awesome Gym Leaders. owo

    He's with your mom.

I mean. . He went back to the drawing board. Like all the other characters of the day.

Although he tried his hardest to become a Gym Leader, his training methods became harsher and harsher as a result of his becoming more and more focused on his dream. The Nurse Joy from the Electabuzz and Scyther episode denied his petition to become an official leader.

He tried to recover from this development, but then found that his Rattata had contracted rabies. Releasing them back into the wild, he then had to release his Butterfree around the same time Ash did, and then discovered that his Beedrill had run away in the middle of the night. Sandshrew, his only remaining Pokémon, was slowly becoming disillusioned with its trainer. After being forced into a cage match with a Victreebel, Sandshrew had had enough, and attacked AJ with Scratch before heading back out into the wild to rediscover its heritage.

Following this, AJ fell into a spiral of alcohol and depression, and died in a gutter shortly after he was observed drunkenly ordering a fire hydrant to use Water Gun.

....or he could just be out on a journey like so many of the other trainers Ash and co. meet, but that's not as much fun, is it?

    .
Must be because of Jessie, James, and Meowth destroyed the gym. Whatever happened to Giovanni anyway?

Lol, that's likely. All characters of the day appeared just once back then. I'm glad the writers treat the current ones slightly better.

He fell into a hole... a plothole of some sort.
Seriously, back then, the writers didn't expect anyone to remember a character after a while who only appeared in one episode.
He could just be another trainer on a journey, and the world is too huge for people to coincidentally meet up all the time.

Ash sent Pikachu to kill him in his sleep...or He got a life and actually won somthing

I like to believe that 50% of trainers who go on quests give up or fail.

    20% of trainers die.

20% actually make it far enough to compete in regional tournaments, but alas, they too fail.

10% actually make names for themselves.

AJ goes in the 50% that fails, along with 90% of COTDs IMO

    Yeah, more or less.

It's hard to be a pokemon master, even if you are skilled. Pokemon's always has been about luck.

I think that when he heard that there was more regions with more pokemon and even more pokemon trainers, he gave up and started a new life in the Sevii Islands operating a Team Rocket HQ with only his Sandshrew who eventually became a Sandslash.

It makes sense, I did see a Team Rocket Grunt with a Sandslash.

He heard that the world was going to end, due to a legendary going crazy, so he went out into the wild and trained to fight whatever legendary it was. He'd make trips into town only to research the legends, and he was training while Ash was going through the Battle Frontier. Even now, he's still training, and has no idea that said legend was already calmed down.

Either that or he fell into a plothole, like >Feelings< said. That's likely as well.

He fell into the black hole that all characters of the Day falls into
