I'm thinking of training a leavanny with leaf blade and swords dance, and i can't decide what item to give it. i really want to use a silk scarf to increase the power of swords dance, thus making leaf blade that much more powerful, but i'm not sure if silk scarf would have any effect on swords dance, and if it does, would it be better than just using a miracle seed? Not that it makes much of a difference, the other moves are protect and grass whistle, i'm going for a sword fighter theme, where protect is the shield, and leaf blade is, of course, the sword. swords dance for a little extra flare, and grass whistle for some personality. just imagine all that plus an awesome leaf cape and "helmet", and to top it all off, a silk scarf flowing in the wind, but only if it actually does something.

I believe Silk Scarf only applies to attacking moves; Silk Scarf would be ineffective to Swords Dance. So, you should pick Miracle Seed over Silk Scarf. :3

I think Swords Dance will still only raise your Attack by two stages, even with Silk Scarf. Those items "raise the power", which is a term exclusive to moves that deal damage.

As the others have said, Silk Scarf will have no effect on Swords Dance and will render your item useless. It only boosts the power of Normal Typed moves such as Return, Double Edge, Fake Out, etc. Miracle Seed would definitely be the way to go here. That said, if you can get an item such as Life Orb, your damage output will be even greater and would also boost the power of your other moves(like X-Scizzor) or whatever you choose to run. Good luck!

That would be really cool if Silk Scarf did that, or they invented a new item that did that.

Like the others informed, type-boosting items like the Silk Scarf don't apply to non-attacking moves. In this case, you'd rather want the Miracle Seed to boost the STAB-powered Leaf Blade.
