Shiny Rayquaza 5-Star Tera Raid Solo Strategies

Announced a Tera Raid with shiny Rayquaza. Will be Tera: Dragon. Happens quite a while from now. Runs from December 20 through January 5. Suspects this to be the final Tera Raid event. Believes they cycled through all the starters, minus the Paldean ones.

What are you planning to try?
_____________

Expects this one to be intended for multiplayer, much like the Mewtwo event. May be near impossible solo. Hopes not, though. Edit: Only 5-star. May not be too bad, although likely not a pushover.

Only has one ability: Air Lock. Stops weather. No big issue there.

Becomes tough to plan around when talking about moves. Has 150 base Attack and Special Attack, plus a wide movepool. Considers a Dragon move and a Flying move to be a safe bet. Worries about a physical set more than a special set, given multiple physical-boosting moves (Dragon Dance, Bulk Up, Swords Dance), but not special-boosting moves other than Meteor Beam. Stands a decent chance of having Iron Head to deal with Fairies as well.

Would not be surprised by an opening Dragon Ascent + debuff clear and/or a Tera Shield.

Ideas:
  • Arceus (Normal) with Tera: Fairy and a Shell Bell: Retains a means to heal at the cost of damage. Takes the same damage from super-effective Iron Head as Arceus (Fairy) versus normal effective Dragon Claw as Arceus (Normal), so no easier setup at the start. (Could lay down Misty Terrain for a little less damage.) Gets Acid Spray and multiple boosting moves.

  • Diancie: Only viable if Iron Head / Gyro Ball is not there. Resists Flying.

  • Primarina: Takes Iron Head neutrally (until Terastallizing). Fares best against a special-heavy Rayquaza.

  • Tinkaton: Also takes Iron Head neutrally until Terastallizing. Notably has Skitter Smack to lower any Special surprises.

  • Magearna: Another Steel/Fairy with good defenses.

  • Avalugg: Probably not viable, given the likelihood of a special move. Only takes Iron Head a little worse than Magearna (29-34.4% versus 24.2-28.5%, before EVs and nature). Suffers from being slower, unfortunately. Might get Dragon Clawed instead, if lucky.

May be a good raid to consider Stellar Tera, also. Forgets about that most of the time.

Edit: 5-star raid, not 7-star.

Not terribly worried if it's just a 5-Star raid.

Own Tempo Tinkaton might be good? Immune to Dragon-type moves while buffing up and Steel can resist Extreme Speed.

Unaware Clefable could possibly work too with Draining Kiss and Calm Mind spam.

Unaware Dondozo could be good of not a specially attacking Rayquaza.

With it being a 5 star raid I'm just gonna see if Scream Tail can get a win on it =P
It's got boosting moves for Attack, Defense, Sp. Attack, Sp. Defense and access to Stored Power, with a nice immunity to the double Dragon STAB.

Released the raid. Reports on it not being difficult.

Moves: Dragon Pulse, Hurricane, Earthquake, and Extreme Speed.
Ability: Air Lock
Nature: +Attack / -Special Defense

Leads the raid with Dragon Ascent. Clears your buffs about when the Tera Shield goes up. Removes its debuffs about when the Tera Shield goes down, as well as Draco Meteor + Dragon Dance.

Won with Sylveon. Started 7-star Charizard Tera Raids with Sylveon. Felt fitting to use it for (presumably) the last raid event. Did not have an Intimidate Pokemon on the team. (Mentions Bellibolt with Light Screen, though.)

Short version: Fake Tears x2. Blast away. Used one Fake Tears after it cleared its debuffs. Continued blasting until the win. Ended with about half the time left. Held a Shell Bell too, of course.

Magearna is so good that it feels like a regular 5-Star raid. :wynaut-laugh:

Magearna
Nature: Hardy
Ablitiy: Soul-Heart
Tera: Fairy
Item: Covert Cloak
EV's: 252 SpA, 252 Def, 4 HP
- Dazzling Gleam
- Iron Defense
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss

Just use Draining Kiss, it's really that easy.

I got it on my second try with Sword Doggo. Won it extremely easily with a lucky 6X Play Rough crit that literally cut it's healthbar in half near the start of the fight lol.

Got 2 pretty easy wins first try.

First went in with Scream Tail on my Violet game.
Modest, 252 Sp. Attack and 120 Defense and 138 Defense EV's. Holding Booster Energy.
Moves:
-Stored Power
-Bulk Up
-Calm Mind
-Fake Tears

Figured I'd not have enough time to fully set up before the buff clear, turned out to be correct.
Used Bulk Up turn 1 and then 2 Fake Tears. My allies at that point brought it down enough for it to bring up the Tera Shield and do the buff clear.

3 x Bulk up and 4 x Calm Mind followed and then I used Stored Power to check the damage. Not that great due to the Tera shield.
2 more Calm Mind to max Sp. Attack. Then 3 or 4 Stored Powers to kill Rayquaza off.

Never had to heal even once. Scream Tail's tankyness is probably overkill for this raid. Would've tried a more offensive orientated build had it failed, but it didn't.
Had about 33% of time remaining at the end. Never used my Tera due to not wanting to lose the Dragon immunity.

Spoiler:

Went to Scarlet after and tried with Flutter Mane. 252 EV's into Sp. Attack and Defense due to how bad it's Defense is. Modest nature, holding the Shell Bell.
Moves:
-Moonblast
-Shadow Ball
-Fake Tears
-Calm Mind.

Calm Mind followed by 2 Fake Tears and then a Moonblast that did roughly half it's HP.
It puts up the barriers then.

2 x Calm Mind, followed by a Heal cheer due to confusion from Hurricane. Still had good HP at this point, another Calm Mind would've been preferable for better shell bell heals.
Moonblast to see how much I heal with Shell Bell. Not enough.
Heal Cheer again due to low HP and attacks not healing enough.
Moonblast again and Flutter Mane would've died once here had Hurricane not missed this turn.

I then get to Tera Fairy into Moonblast at last and finally get good heals from the Shell Bell.
Heal Cheer due to confusion form Hurricane again.
2 x Moonblast to finish it off.

Had about 25% of time remaining. Flutter Mane is a bit too frail Defensively I think, but had a couple lucky breaks... as well as unlucky ones.
