Somewhere in Johnto, there is a river called Lake of Rage where a red gyarados residesIm not sure simply put a gen2 tag is appropriate because Im talking about G/S remake as well.

So do you keep and use the shiny gyarados, simply defeat it or just put it on the PC boxes? I actually dont remember if I keep them on my team and just shelf it in the PC

I usually catch it, but I don't use it most of the time either. Like to try to use some degree of different Pokemon each playthrough of a Pokemon game

i don't use the shiny gyara often with my johto playthroughs. idk, gyarados isn't really my type of pokemon (though it is awesomely designed). I always get that Lapras in that one cave

i usually catch it just to make up for the times as a kid that i was too dumb to just save in front of it so that i could try again if i messed up lol. i have used it on numerous occasions, though. in both the originals and remakes. idk i know some people don't care for the free shiny nowadays, but i always thought it was a neat way to introduce the concept. it's a great shiny, too.

I catch it and I keep it on the box. But I may take the consideration of it's use on HG/SS where here, it's much better.

Usually i'd catch it and use it at first, but lately i only catch it to add another one in my Pokedex and then store it in the PC 😅

I always captured the Shiny Gyarados, although I only used it as an HM slave for certain situations since it could learn Whirlpool and Waterfall. I never had one as a permanent team member, though.

I always look forward to the Lake of Rage and catching the red Gyarados, I think it is one of the coolest plots of the Johto region games. I sure did snag him with wonder in my eyes, and add him to my team when I first played Pokemon Gold. he was a strong and unforgettable part of my team, right there with me when I fought the Elite Four.

The red Gyarados also on my team again in Pokemon soul silver. He was quite fun and colorful to have walking behind me in the overworld. He was at my side when we took on Red.

When I played Crystal on the virtual console I picked Totodile as my starter. In Gold I chose Cyndaquil, and Soul Silver I used Chikorita. Since I had a strong, reliable Feraligatr on my team I didn't really didn't have a way to incorporate Gyarados long-term, but I still wanted to catch him. I consider him a Pokemon well worth transferring over to Sun and Moon. He also still got to see some action on the VC because I liked this Pokemon, and wanted to see him win a few battles. I used him to defeat Team Rocket, my rationale being that he was a Gyarados out for revenge against them. He was able to enjoy a break, chilling at daycare, where he became the respected father of a line of shiny pokemon. In Gen 2, shiny parents have an increased chance of passing it on to the child.

The red Gyarados is a special pokemon. Why not take him home with you? At least go surfing on him. I could only see myself knocking it out and not catching it if I was doing a monotype or a challenge with rules that would prohibit this pokemon.
