3rd Gen Secret Bases ~

Hoenn's Secret Bases ♪
[PokeCommunity.com] Secret Bases ~

Who here remembers the secret bases from Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald? Most routes in the Hoenn region feature several areas which can be converted into a Secret Base, with small indents in walls being able to be carved out into a cave, tall trees being able to drop down vines, and clumps of grass being able to be moved. Ah, but you'd need to have the TM43 - Secret Power.

If we mixed records with other Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald game cartridges, Secret Bases will copy over between them (even those from other players who have previously mixed records). Inside of Secret Bases that do not belong to the player, an NPC can be found to represent the person that took that Secret Base as their own!

when i replay RSE nowadays i usually don't bother making a base bc i mean who am i going to mix records with in 2020 lbr lol but my old old old ass emerald file, that mixed records w my like 04 file from sapphire, still has my original base in it. pretty cool. i haven't like been IN there to check it out in a while but from what i remember, i think i had all the starter dolls and a matching print rug with them sitting on it (like torchic on the fire rug, etc) and it was a layout just like the screenshot used in the first post. it's in that big tree on uhhh route whatever that you have to surf up to past meteor falls where the jigglypuff are. and you could make a base on one side or the other of the tree and my best friend from way back then made his base on the other half of the same tree. it was sweet...so i still have access to those bases after all this time. i have some of my sister's old bases too, i actually battled her a while back when i was playing emerald to work on my dex lol.

anyway yeah i really loved secret bases as a kid and they're still fun to put effort into tbh if i'm trying to get the Full Experience when replaying, but it's hard to do so when you can't mix records anymore. i mean i could mix records w my other games i suppose haha. i think they're super neat though, but as much as i like them, i don't remember their comeback in ORAS being very eventful aside from easy grinding w blissey bases but i might be misremembering, i didn't play too much of ORAS when it was still current since i was in my last years of school.

I was absolutely addicted to secret bases. Had one copy of Ruby and one of Sapphire, Sapphire was my first main but then I switched to Ruby being my primary game and Sapphire as the game I restarted constantly to replay and make new bases. I'd then mix records of the bases back to my main and battle the trainers daily. childhoooddd ; ; Wish I could remember how I decorated all of them!

aaa the long forgotten memories of designing secret bases. i can't even remember where mine was anymore, but i do recall decking it out with nothing but plushies! made me feel like i had real pokemon friends and they'd visit my house and all that.

i sincerely wish they'd put that feature back in future games. being able to go all Animal Crossing on Pokemon was real neato.

I remember mixing records with my friends and visiting their secret bases back in middle school. I miss that and wish I had my original Ruby cartridge and save file so I could still visit them. (I was really hoping that some of those friends would share their Super Secret Base QR codes so we could relive some of that nostalgia, but none of them got ORAS... T_T)

Not sure how my original secret base looked, but my favorite decoration was always the Sand Ornament.

I liked it in Ruby and Sapphire, but remember little - I would just build a fun hideout and then inevitably swap to a new one before long. Since I did not know anyone else who played the games and was slow to adapt to the internet age, I did not experience anything beyond that.

Breaking the thread a little to expand to the remakes, I created a Gym for every type using the Secret Base mechanic, choosing the location, decoration and guest trainers to fit thematically. I still have their QR codes somewhere, though I never ended up sharing them. It was that project that caused me to start looking at the competitive side of the games for the first time, in order to make those gyms strong, after a decade and a half playing entirely casually.

Oh man. I missed out xD I had no idea we could have mixed records for the secret bases to be more in depth lol! I used to love having a secret base though. I'd make one near wherever I was training Pokemon at. The only items I remember having were the Pokemon dolls. I don't remember how I decorated them other than the dolls.

It was a cool feature, especially when you mix up records with other players!
I remember that I used to put my achievements won in the battle tower and at pokemon contest.

I like how the Secret Bases where basically an evolution of the gen 2 gimmick that allowed you to decorate your room. It was a lot of fun encountering new places on all kinds of routes even with differing looks depending on the terrain (mounts, trees, ...). It bothered me a little that parts of the larger bases were cut off and needed aplank to access. But apart from that it was an enjoyable activity that sadly got scrapped afterwards (excepting the remakes, of course).

I love secret bases!! I really appreciated the room decoration features in Gen II so when I finally got to play Ruby and Sapphire I was delighted that I could do it again in a different layout!

I do wish there were more decorations and that you could change the shape or size of the rooms more easily, but i mostly just collected dolls, rugs, and posters :>

DPPT's underground secret bases were a little better, except for the boulder removal aspect being kind of a pain in the rear. The traps were fun, even if I didn't have anyone to set them for.
