    hey people

    what's a good moveset for a sceptile???

    here's what I got

    Sceptile (female)
    Lv.100
    -Mild-
    Crunch
    Attract
    Leaf Blade
    Dragon Claw

I know toxic is a very common move given to sceptile
but well, I don't like to have too many pokemon with the same move
and I already have one that can use Toxic on my team.
I need some help, so like help me please.

does anyone know if it can learn Dragon Dance as an egg move?
if it can I'll rebreed 'til I have a nature that boosts attack power and change
    it's moves around.

I'll just brag about my Sceptile now ;p

    Sceptile- [speed + / sp.atk or atk -] @ leftovers
EV: Speed max, then however you want
    -leech seed
    -substitute
    -protect/offensive move
    -offensive move

*Offensive move should be either both physical or both special, with stats supporting that category*

Sceptile cannot really sweep that well with a sp.attack like that. It's just not high enough to do a very good job at it. Defense is just not that great at all (and being grass type doesn't help). It's not the type for an all out sweeper.

What you should be hoping for is to use leech seed, (hopefully) survive an attack, and then let leech seed do all the offense/healing. Keeping stalling with substitute (leftovers + leech seed will heal plenty. Add in protect if you want to be safe and you'll be hard to beat) until the opponent is weak enough for you to OHKO.

Just have to watch out for encore, or attacks that hit multiple times that can break your sub. Eggy and Ludicolo can screw this set over majorly though because leech seed fails on grass type (or I'm just unlucky and leech seed never hits any of these 2)

Lets look at Sceptile's base stats:

    HP: 70
    Attack: 85
    Defense: 65
    Sp. Attack: 105
    Sp. Defense: 85
    Speed: 120

Frostweaver, with 65 and 85 as Defense and Sp. Defense, Sceptile will most likely get killed after one or two turn. Don't forget that Substitute doesn't last forever... And 105 Sp. Attack isn't enough for you? How much then?

    Sceptile@Scope Lens
    Leaf Blade
    Leech Seed
    Dragon Claw
HP Water (Toxic would be better but eh...)

Subsitute breaks on one turn, but leftovers+leech seed gives you the enough hp to substitute again. Does it matter to continously use substitute if you are using your opponent's hp to make the sub, not yours? ^_^

You're right how Sceptile will die after 2 turns, but all you need is to survive for one turn. Pull off leech seed, then take the hit. Use protect, and let leech seed+leftovers do the amazing healing work for you. Sub the next turn, dropping hp again only to be healed again. Repeat cycle and you gain hp even if you use sub once every 2 turn. As long as Sceptile isn't hit by STAB, you will survive (well i dumped stats in SP.def and it works very well so far)

105 sp.attack is nice, but not enough to sweep... even a 700 sp.attack alakazam is not enough to OHKO at times. Sceptile cannot survive long, and must rely on fast sp.attacks to OHKO. But if you cannot OHKO (and can't self heal), then why bother? Plus there are so many special sponges out there. Leaf Blade is the only STAB, and too many things out there are resistant to it.

So I take it putting Rock Tomb or some other Rock/Ground attack on a Sceptile vs. fire pokemon would just be suicide?! Should you just cede the point that Sceptile cannot stand up to those that Grass is weak to?(fire, poison, ice, bug and flying)

If Toxic is in your Sceptile MS, do you lead off with it? Then what (in your experience)? I have to admit that I am only recently seeing the power of status-affecting moves.......

It all depends on your Sceptiles' moveset, and the way you distribute your EV. Really as long as the attack isn't STAB, a 260 def will let you live against arcanine aerial ace, or sp.def of 260 will survive ice beam from Milotic/Suicune (if the attack comes from Slaking, an ubar or anything with SUPERIOR stats then maybe not. These are the things that you can only learn by battling more, learning from your experiences).

I'll have to see your entire moveset to decide.

(And don't put rock tomb on Sceptile... Rock tomb is inaccurate, and Sceptile has no attack power to be using a non-STAB move like this.)
