I was thinking the other day about Dialga. Why is its signature move SO crappy? Then I got to thinking of ways to improve it when I came across: What if Dialga actually did something with time... What if Roar of Time was a more powerful Roost, specifically for Dialga? Only, since Dialga rules over all time, the move would restore Dialga's HP to full. Thoughts?

Actually, its not all that weak.
150 is the atk of the roar of time

•At level 50, with a helpful nature and 31 IVs, and 252 EVs, he has a max special atk stat of 222 [at level 100 it'd be 438. Its not the best of the best, but hey its still way above average]
•Lets say his opponent has a nice average special defense of
    120
    •Dont forget stab.

    [(2*50+10)/250 * 222/120 * 150 + 2] * 1.5 = 178 damage.
I think thats a nice chunk. 178/2 is 89, so assuming you will use a awakening the next turn, its 89 per turn. Give it a chesto berry to make two consecutive turns of 178.
Though a blissey could easily survive this bombardment, Pokemon that have their strengths in offense and speed will often succumb to the damage and faint.

It depends on how you use it. If you have crappy s.atk and are facing a blissey, then you may want to use a different move.

Though, if your thinking in terms of "fluff", then yeah it makes sense

But who gives a competitively used pokemon Hyper Beam? It's the same attack, only Dialga receives STAB for this one. I would've rather had a 100 Pwr/100 Acc attack with no added bonuses as it eliminates the need to recharge as that free turn could win or lose the battle. That, or the recovery move I mentioned above as it would really bring out the "slow tank" that Dialga is.

Competitive, I agree, it sucks. Big time. The free turn is a death sentence for you.
In game is much different though. You're given the option to switch your Pokémon when you KO, meaning you can afford the risk of that recharge turn, by just recalling Dialga.
I'd like to see an improvement on it, but probably not recovery, as Dialgas bulky enough all ready xD.

I never really understood it either, Spacial Rend was an awesome move, but Roar of Time never matched up to it. I thought they should have made the two Legends a bit more equal in terms of moves, like Ho-Oh/Lugia and Kyogre/Groudon.

Kyogre isn't equal to Groudon and Ho-Oh isn't equal to Lugia.

    Roar of time.. let's see.

    150 + STAB = 225
    225 + Adamant Orb = 280
Equal to the power of two STAB Draco Meteors at once.
And Draco Meteor does more damage over two turns so Roar of Time isn't with your time.

Draco Meteor sharply lowers the user's Sp.Att not raise it.

Modest Dialga (Maximum special attack) Draco Meteor VS Specially Defensive Skarmory : 49.4% - 58.4%
Modest Dialga (Same) -2 Draco Meteor VS Specially Defensive Skarmory : 24.9% - 29.3%

Same Dialga's Roar of Time VS Specially Defensive Skarmory: 53% - 62.6%

Roll minimum damage on both ones and it's outdamaged.

    Dialga:
    252 SpA EVs, Modest nature

    Skarmory:
252 Sp.def EVs, 252 HP EVs, Impish Nature

I just have a Darkrai with 252 s.atk, and when stats sart getting this high, it doesn't matter if you use rot or sr, cus you ko everything.

Really? Oh, I'm just saying tha in game Darkrai ko's everything so I don't bother with Dialga,
however, in he VGC I'd use Dialga over Darkrai.

Yeah, because Pokemon BANNED FROM COMPETITIVE BATTLING BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO STRONG are totally OHKOing EVERYTHING ingame, which doesn't even have EV training or perfect IVs and such. It's no smarts using something too strong ingame and call it "OHKO everything"

Me? I only put my Giratina out of PC so it'd be registered in the hall of fame. Nothing more.

Roar of time has helped me win a lot of battles, if you give the right item to Dialga, and you EV train it the right way, it could be really useful.

    unbiased Analysis

Special rend: The high critical hit ratio makes the 90 s. atk into 180 s.atk, which occurs 12.5% of the time. so ((90*87.5%)+(180*12.5%))/100% = 101.5 dmg. It has an accuracy of 95%, so 101.5*.95= 96.18 per turn.

Roar of time: The critical hit ratio makes the 150 s. atk into 225 s. atk, which occurs 6.25% of the time. so ((150*92.75%)+(225*6.25%))/100% = 153.18 damage. 153.18/2 for the "recharge" turn is 76.59 per turn. It has an accuracy of 90%, so 76.59*.90=68.93 per turn.

becuase both Pokemon have equal base sp.atk, and both receive a STAB benefit from it, the comparison is accurate
    .

An unbiased answer, as is the following info.

Remember that dialga has resistance to 11 types, and is unaffected by one. He is weak to two types, which are fairly common (ground and fighting).

Palkia is resistant to only 3 types, and is weak to one uncommon type (dragon).

I'm still not happy with the attack, but after reading this post, I see indeed that the legendaries are quite balanced out, as are their attacks. Thank you, sir. :)

Quite a noobish question bu I need to know, what does STAB mean? What is it?

Same Type Attack Boost I think it was
It's when you use an attack that is the same type as the pokemon doing it. So an example is darkrai using dark pulse or pikachu using thunderbolt.

STAB stands for Same Type Attack Bonus. It gives a pokemon using a move of the same typing a 50% boost. This means a Flamethrower used by Charizard will be every bit as powerful as a Fire Blast used by a non-fire type pokemon.
