Can someome recommend me a good set of moves for my Salamence?
Mine is Calm nature and has EVs for defense and special defense...
The moves my Salamence currently has:
Flamethrower
Dragon Claw
Steel Wing
Double-Edge
just by looking, steel wing must go... that's one of those moves where you never use at all, along with Iron tail (ok fine I admit only pidgeot is the one desperate enough to use steel wing)
And... why a tanking setup for a natural Pokemon born to sweep with such a movepool that's designed to sweep? But either way, just decide if it's a physical or special sweeper, and use the standard (standards are standards for a reason) moveset. You can take a bit of both if you want a mix sweeper.
I like to train the stats the the pokemon has lower, so that I can make sure that if I can't sweep out the opponent's pokemon first, I can have a chance to survive and make a second attack.... well, I need a good set for Salamence either ways, so can someone help me change some of the moves to get a better set?
err... but a defensive Salamence will certainly get you nowhere... you're STILL OHKO by ice beam regardless due to relatively low hp (for a Salamence) and the ugly x4 weakness.
A good set depends on the role you want your salamence to be, and along with what's the rest of the team.
My Salamence has very high HP, well I don't know quite a lot, but it is at level 74 and has 274 hp.... and I'm making sure that Salamence doesn't go against pokemon with ice moves, although my Salamence endured an Ice Beam of a nearly same level pokemon :P
a Salamence with no hp EV is still in 300s but that's relatively low for a Salamence who can reach 370s I believe... somewhere around there. And not everything will be as easy to make sure, or else I'll also have 100% winning record. You never know if there's a weird one out there (such as ice beaming Absol that OHKO my own salamence >>; )
still need to know what role you want your salamence to play
I don't know much about team roles and that, but I just like Pokemon that are very powerful and with very balanced stats.... another thing, I always take into account the defense and special defense of a pokemon, they are something like my favorite stats
much of it depends on the rest of your team. Salamence is usually the speedy beefcake that runs out, smacks a couple, and then promptly turns around and push up daisies (aka faints). Outside of that, its ugly weakness and average defense doesn't allow it to do too much. =/

flamethrower on Salamance is almost a MUST (anti-Skarm and ice), though FB (fire blast) may be better (if flamethrower won't OHKO Skarm). I'm not quite sure where Hydro Pump would help, though i don't c where it would hurt, either.
Heh, don't give us the 'nothing can beat me'. Salamance still has plenty of weaknesses and most if not all fully evolved Water or Ice types using Ice Beam can OHKO. I'd like to see your Salamance take on my Jynx from G/S (admittedly I can't use him yet, I'll have to reacquire him when I get FR/LG).
Don't forget, Dragon types are also weak to dragon. Have a Kingdra using Dragon Claw for example, and you again get in trouble...and no Ice weakness as well.
High stats does not guarantee you'll 'always win'. Just remember that...
Glock probably means he can beat anything that's in-game. And anything that's in-game has the IQ equal to that of a goldfish...maybe even lower. He obviously has never played another decent human player before. My Snorunt could beat that Salamence with such a horrible moveset.
Yeah. I mean, I could probably take 6 Sunkern (Pokemon with the lowest base stat score total, a mere 30 in each stat) and take on the entire game with them.
As for human players, that's a whole different matter :-)
not to mention that the Salamence got illegal movesets XD
Salamence using Fire blast does not gurantee a OHKO on Skarmory... it depends on EV. Flamethrower is very unlikely to OHKO (rarely possible if you max sp.atk and Skarm has no sp.def). Then again, to everyone else around me Skarmory is not the slighest problem in the world >>;
Skarmory is okay. I just use it for spiking but ti had saved my butt once. It killed off an entire team of oobers while all my toher Pokemon were dead.
Salamene@Whatever, its gonna die anyways... Dragon Dance (A must have!) Brick Break (Weakness killer!) Dragon Claw/Thunderbolt (Brick Break takes care of Ice. STAB! Or take out annoying Water types packing Ice Beam.) Aerial Ace (STAB!)
