    R.I.P. Dexter?

If there's been a thread like this already, forgive me. [/sorry]

Does anyone else remember Ash's old Pokedex? It used to… have a personality, and a name. Not to mention Ash used to talk to it, and pull it out whenever he could. A Pokedex is still used in the anime, but there's no more wit to it. And the woman's mechanical voice sort of took over, although I don't know why, since the main Pokemon professors are still male. (Excluding Prof. Ivy).

I believe the latest episode it spoke back to Ash was in "Dues and Don'ts" way back in the Master Quest season. I might be wrong though. And of course in the first episode, when it actually called Ash, "A stupid trainer."

The pokedex was once used as a sort of comic relief to the series… when Team Rocket wasn't around. But now it seems like a sort of forgotten device. So why did they decide to scrap it? Thoughts?

From what I could remember, it was only in the first episode that the Pokedex was making such wry remarks. It didn't made such comments afterwads.
By the end of Master Quest the Pokedex was used in the same manner as it is used now in DP. The only difference is that the Pokedex now has a women's voice.

It's true the Pokédex didn't leave such remarks after the first episode, and now it just gives basic information. I really think that the writers made it like that to bring comedy relief in the first episode.

Yeah, I don't remember the PokéDex being used for any kind of relief after the first episode either. Perhaps it made a smart comment every 50 episodes or so but nothing much.

In my opinion, it was never anything more than a device used to record Pokémon.

Lolz, the good old days. "STupid Trainers" I cracked up.

But Dexter isn't really gone. just a woman this time, round

It had to have a sex change. Eric Stuart originally voiced it, then Rachael Lillis, which makes for some fun irony.

That's it -- Team Rocket monkeyed around with it.

I miss the REAL Dexter. And since when does a pokedex need theme music!?

Yeah, the Pokedex Theme is 4Kids dub music that they used right from the start. It ended up ruining scenes where, something dangerous was happening, and then the Pokedex Theme came in...I admit, I actually like the theme, but it wasn't used very well in some scenes. Like a lot of dub music. But it sounds pleasant enough, anyway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKzqP4-0Z6M
