6th Gen Questions about Soft Reset for Shinies

Hello! I hope you are all having a wonderful day!

I have decided to restart my Alpha Sapphire game on the 21/08/2016 and I have been SR'ing for my shiny starter (Treecko) ever since. This is the first time I have used this method to obtain a shiny and I have reached 2045 (so far). I have made a few errors and am wondering if they affect the shiny chain or ratio.

During my resets, I have accidentally chosen Torchic instead of Treecko. Does this affect the rates?

This has taken 8 days and at the end of each day I turn off my DS fully before doing more resets the following day. Does this affect the rates?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

From what I've read, neither effect the shiny rates. It should be ok for you to turn off you DS for it to charge before continuing soft resetting.

Nope, nothing affects the rates negatively. It's not a countdown or anything. However, if you want a shiny Treecko, it's probably easier to use the Masuda Method for it. Except if you really want a shiny Treecko as your started that badly. I usually only use soft resetting for legendaries.

Also, just a tip for soft resetting (if you're not doing this already). Strap a rubber band around your 3DS so the L and R buttons are already being pressed down by it. Then you only have to press start yourself, so it's easier to soft reset while doing something else.

Like Dracowyn said, it's not a countdown so nothing you could do would negatively affect the chance of getting a shiny. Resetting isn't considered chaining so your rate will stay the same with the only exception being if you obtained the Shiny Charm, but since you're aiming for your starter you will have no way of getting it before receiving your Treecko. This is why it may take a very, very long time. But if you insist on your starter being shiny (rather than breeding for it later), then I wish you the best of success!

Soft resetting is just resetting the game without turning your 3ds off, so nothing will affect it. The only way it would be affected is if the torchic was shiny.
