Is there really a correct way to say each pokemon name? I mean, some names are easy to pronounce, such as zubat. But i have heard different deoxys pronounciations, such as
    DEE-OCKSIS, or DEE-OCKSEES.

So how do you pronounce pokemon names?

    i say deee-ocksis :p i've never heard anyone say dee-ox-sees

but yeah some poeple say other poke names differently. like maaa-chop or maw-chop

Deoxys(Dee-Ox-Sees) name is derived from the full name for DNA: DeoxyriboNucleacAcic(Dee-Oxy-Rib-On-New-Clee-Oc-Acid), thus meaning that it will be pronounced similarly to the word its name is derived from.

Okay, this happens all the time in my life with pokemon. It makes me really frustrated. For instance, I've always pronounced Arceus as "ARRR-CEE-US" but in the movie they pronounce it "ARC-EEUS." Then recently, I was watching third generation episodes where they pronounce Milotic "MY-LOW-TIC" where I've always pronounced it "MI-LOT-ICK."
so I don't know if i'm just dumb or the english dub is messed up.

I always have been pronouncing Milotic as "Mee-loh-tic" instead of "My-loh-tic."

    Altaria has always confused me.
I originally called it 'Al-tear-ia' because thats what they called it in an episode of the anime. Altaria then appeared in another episode where they called it 'Al-tar-ia'. I generally call it that too now, but I still don't know which is the correct pronounciation.

My friend says To-ge-pie while I say to-ge-pee for Togepi.
I say Grou-don and another friend says Gruu-don for Groundon.
I know there are a few more but I can't remember. I just think as long as you know what they are saying, it doesn't matter.

    Some disputes that I pronounce:

    Groudon: Grow-don
    Kyogre: Kai-oh-grr
    Milotic: Mill-o-tick
Arceus: Ar-kay-us [Because "Arc" is "Ark" and besides, it sounds the godliest]
    Deoxys: Dee-ox-eez
    Sceptile: Skep-tile [as in, "skeptical"]
Rayquaza: Ray-kwa-zah [not Ray-kway-za, that's retarded, the name is oriental]
    Raikou: Rai-kow [not Rai-koo]
Gardevoir: I don't actually know how to pronounce that one, so I just say "guard-eh-voar". I am probably wrong.

Silly generation three and their hard to pronounce names!

Any Pokemon in generation 4 onwards I'll pronounce however I like, because I stopped watching the anime and don't care how they're supposed to be pronounced. In generations 1 and 2 I get real worked up if someone doesn't say a name right. Like "EEKINS". AAAAHHHHHHH. SAY IT RIGHT.

Cherrim should be chair-imm. Like cherry without the Y. Same with Cherubi: chair-ruby. Not "chuh-rim" and "chuh-ruby". No. Go away, anime, you suck. :(

Aside from those two and Arceus (should be Are-see-us, not are-kay-us ><), I don't think I take any issue with actual pronunciations. If I'm pronouncing something wrong, I tend to fix my pronunciation when I hear the real one and then I forget what I used to say, haha.

When I was little, playing Red / Blue on my gameboy, I called Ratatta "Rat-ah-tat"
    B|

Thinking back on my younger pronunciations makes me weep.

    Raikou: Rai-kow [not Rai-koo]

See, this makes me rage. Seems to me that's clearly not a native english way to pronounce "ou".
I HATE foreign pronunciations. I'm OCD about pronouncing things. I just want a pattern, and for the language I speak to be simple enough I don't have to think before I use a word in my sentence. Foreign pronunciations ruin that for me, because I have to individually remember that this word is french, and that one is chinese.

Yeah that one is a tricky one.

I've always said it like "mill o' tic".

And Scizor. Is it "Siz-or" or is it "Sai-zor"?

With most of the pronunciations, I usually follow the way they're said in the anime because, for me, that's how they should be said. Most of the time, at first glance, I get it right so I have no worries. However, as I am from the UK, and we say things a bit differently, I do tend to pronounce some names wrong.

As for Deoxys, I pronounce it as "dee-ox-is".

    Here's what I say:
    Groudon: Gr-ow-don
    Kyogre: Kai-oh-gerr
    Milotic: Mile-o-tick
    Arceus: Ar-see-us
    Deoxys: Dee-ox-iss
    Sceptile: Sep-tile
    Rayquaza: Ray-kwa-zah
    Raikou: Rai-koo
    Gardevoir: Guard-ih-vw-are
    Suicune: Swee-coon
    Typhlosion: Tai-flow-sion (as in vision)
    Chinchou: Chin-chow
Xatu: Za-two (I used to say Ex-ah-two, till I realised it was stupid)
    Grovyle: Grow-vile

Right, that's all the complicated ones I can think of.

    Here's how i pronounce things

XATU - KS-atoo (still not sure)
    RATATA - used to pronounce Rat-a-tat-a. Now i know it's Rat-a-ta
    DIALGA - Dee-all-ga
    ARCEUS - Ar-KEE-us
    MILOTIC - MILE-O-TICK
    RAIKOU - Rye-KU

I had always pronounced Riolu "rai-oh-loo," when it's supposed to be pronounced "ree-oh-loo."

I also pronounced Totodile "too-too-dile," and Geodude "gai-gaid," when I was little.

I don't like how the anime pronounces the names sometimes, like Am-fuh-ros.

Can someone please clarify this, my friend says Kwog-sire where as I say Kwag-sire. Which one, if either, is it?

sorry if I don't know how to write pronunciation guides

The OP about Deoxys reminds me of how I used to pronounce it: doh-EX-ee-us (That was when I was younger and so I guess some letters mixed up)

    Some others:
    Altaria: al-TAHR-ee-uh
    Raikou: ry-KOO (I can't get used to saying ry-KOW)
    Arceus: AR-soos

    Some I interchange like Gallade: GAL-aid; GAUL-aid

I used to pronounce Kyogre - Kyo-Greh XD I had no idea until I hear friends and others say Kyo-Gur and I was like...why are you saying it like that? -___-
