Here is where you can discuss a Misty/Jessie clash of epic proportions in "Princess vs. Princess."

    My review to come forthwith.

(The original airdate was 9/4/99, but I apparently overshot on the airdate. Blame sensory overload with the computer rental. My apologies on its belated ness.)

Ah yes, I remember that episode. Misty actually did well in that episode. In fact, this epsode was also what contributed most to my absolute loyalty to her, not just the battle, but another factor which I'll get to in a moment.

The only thing I hated about the episode was the Fiorello Fangirls. In fact, they were one of my first exposures to the Female Anime Stereotype. My mom taught me that this was such a horrible stereotype (how the Fiorello Fangirls acted, I mean.). My mom basically said she didn't like how women were portrayed in this episode (IE, being loud, whiney, and obnoxious, among others). When I asked if Misty acted like this in the episode (appropriately with the part with her asking to borrow Ash and Brock's pokemon), she said she wasn't like them at all. I might mention the part about encountering Love Hina later on with a similar opinion from my mom, and my first encounter with May and me realizing how she's just like them, but I digress.

In fact, it's because of the fact that Misty never acted like them at all that made me the Gray Fox to her Big Boss (sorry, Metal Gear reference), in other words, it made me absolutely loyal to her. In fact, loyal enough to not only desire her return, but to make it happen.

While I was definitely loyal to Misty prior to the episode, if it weren't for this episode, it would not have been as powerful.

It's also worth noting that this was technically the first Pokemon Contest in the series.

yea i remember that episode 2 it was good yea was the episode that got me liking misty more

I've been meaning to ask you this for a while weedle: Who's Fiorello? Is he someone from a really old movie like Casablanca or something?

Anyway, I remember this episode quite well. Well, only the beginning until the actual tournament started. The tournament escapes me at the moment but I'm sure that Misty wins and sends her dolls to Cerulean. Part of me really wished that Jesie would win only because I was fond of Team Rocket back then. Not too much now though. Anyway, I really liked this episode when I was young so it brings back some memories.

Fiorello, AKA Fiorello Cappucino, is the movie star who is co-hosting the contest in this episode. In fact, one of the prizes was to have a picture taken with him (and cue the nightmarish squeals.)

Oh, that fellow that I forgot existed because he was insignificant. What a terrible name he has though.

I was actually just thinking about this episode. Its one of my favorites. Misty so far has been the only girl to compete with Jessie when it comes to being a Diva! Though, Harley came close! XD

Aw, I felt bad for Jessie in this episode. I love Team Rocket, and I kinda wished she could have won at least this. xD I always love when they make Meowth battle, because you always seem to forget that he's actually a Pokemon, just because he can talk. Not that he's any good, or anything. :P Pretty good episode, and the Jessie/James shipper in me was happy with James and Meowth "being" the dolls for Jessie at the end. xD

I knew you'd be the first to comment, as it's your episode. Heh. And why shouldn't it, as it was a great spotlight on Misty's true strengths.

The fangirls didn't irritate me, as they did with you, but they didn't help the episode. I think James' girly "Aren't I the coolest girl" in Battle Abroad the St. Anne deflected that for me. So, I just defer to that and mock them, instead. Heh.

Anyway, I did like the episode for the Team Rocket aspect. It was impressive and enthralling to see Lickitung actually almost win. Of course, with such a powerhouse, the writers would never use it again until late Kanto/OI. Fools.

In this episode Jessie proved that she is more fierce than the other girls I think. I wish she could have won the dolls. :(

Huzzah for Misty actually proving she's the best female character of the series.

This episode also marked the birth of that Pokemon we all forgot.

Lickitung was nearly invincible in this episode and then all of a sudden it can't do anything after this.

Lickitung wasn't actually "born" in this episode. It was caught, Which I'm assuming you meant.

Haha, James had a pretty funny part in this episode. Misty kicked ass, she showed shades of being a great balanced trainer. If she had a balanced team, I could picture her going to the Pokemon League.

James: What choice do you have, all you have is Arbok
Jesse: *smirking* Thats not exactly accurate
James: *looks back up and sees his Weezing with Jesse* Jesse please no don't take Weezing!

Haha, that gave me a pretty good laugh, James has had quite a few of those moments.
