I'll add whichever wins onto my team. I need one of them...

Vote on which is better: Gengar or Alakazam.

A general question really, one that more so fits in Pokémon General than here in HG/SS considering most comparisons are done there between two or more Pokémon. So...

    /moved

In my opinion though I prefer Gengar > Alakazam. Overall because of its looks, stats, and move pool.
Though, Alakazam puts up a decent fight in the choice, I just prefer Gengar between the two.

Well I have a haunter, and I'm going to evolve it into a gengar at some point when I remember to trade it to my boyfriend's Diamond. So I would go with gengar if I were you, only because they're so cool looking and can learn: hypnosis, dream eater, nightmare, and shadow ball. That's the move set I'm hoping to get eventually. Alakazam just has defense like a little wuss honestly.

I honestly think Alakazam is the better choice since it can learn more epic moves like energy ball.. etc

Gengar because you can trap your opponent with hypnosis, nightmare and dream eater, keep sending them to sleep, use nightmare then use dream eater, oh and use X accuracy too. On the off chance gengar does get damaged send em to sleep and use dream eater to gain health back, i wiped out my friends team of Ubers just doing this trick with one Gengar.

I pick Alakazam, just because I have always liked it better than Gengar. I know Gengar's great and battle and all, but eh...oh well.

Alakazam or more like Abra has always been a personal favorite of mine. It makes for such a cute little fox... thing. Also it's one of the more memorable Pokemon for me. It's one of the first Pokemon that really stood out when I was younger. So I'll have to say that Alakazam is the better of the two. I have nothing against Gengar. It's just that I don't care for it that much anymore.

I've never raised a Ghost Type Pokemon on my team, Alakazam I've always raised, so I'm going to go with Gengar. Gengar has resistance to a lot of types and better defensive stats. Thanks for your opinions guys!

    Alakazam > Gengar

Each gen makes Gengar better (2=Shadow Ball, 3=Levitate, 4=Att/S.Att split) and its not fair. I voted Alakazam because I always liked him better then Gengar, he was even my favorite for a time. Even though I don't really use him anymore, part of me roots for him even today. Here's hoping he gets Aura Sphere and a useful ability in the fifth gen.

Gengar is just so epically awesome in both design and abilities that no one can't love him. :D

Gengar, because ghost phantom thingy>... psychic fox? What's Alakazam supposed to be, anyways?

    …I'll post my opinion anyways.

Gengar. They are both similar, with both having recovering moves. They have poor physical stats and HP, but they are fast and have great special stats. However, Gengar is ghost type, so that automatically makes him immune to fighting and normal attacks, which is nice because the majority of them are physical. It also has hypnosis, which is great(when it works), and dream eater which is its recovering move. It has no STAB and can't be used anywhere like recover can sadly, but 100 attack and 100 accuracy shouldn't be looked away so fast when it has a sleeping move already. It can also walk into spikes and toxic spikes without caring, but if this is in-game it doesn't matter much.

    Ummmm Gengar...no contest...

    I mean...think about it...

Gengar is a staple in OU teams.

Alakazam is in the NU bracket, IIRC.
