    Poll #4

Welcome to the fourth Pokémon Anime poll, where characters from the series are pitted against each other in a voting war with results decided on by you.

The current poll is between two of Ash's XY rivals, Sawyer and Alain.

Here are some possible topics to consider when replying:

    • Although the XY saga is still airing, who did you feel had better character development and story episodes so far?
    • Whose personality do you like more?
    • Whose team do you like more?
    • Is there anything you wish the writers of the anime would do with these two characters? Maybe you have episode ideas in mind for them?
    • Who did you feel had better/more interesting battles against Ash?

    1) Alain had the better development by far. We know why he's interested in Mega Stones and why he's fighting Mega Pokemon. Sawyer seemed to want to follow in Ash's footsteps (I've got my problems with Ash in this anime).

    2) Probably Alain? We didn't really see enough of Sawyer with him being introduced so late into the anime, whereas Alain had a mini-series dedicated to himself and his origins.

    3) Sawyer's team. It's well rounded and incorporates a lot of styles and strategy, with each one getting a win or draw. My one criticism of it is that it seems to have been built in mind to counter Ash's team. Alain's team only really has Charizard and Metagross as standout stars (which Pikachu dealt with to show off Pikachu's progress). Bisharp was pulled out of nowhere and while it was extremely strong and looked awesome, it was also a DEM to quickly get rid of two of Ash's Pokemon.

    4) I would have liked to see a backstory for Sawyer more, although I've enjoyed the student/master relationship he had with Ash and those two overtaking one another.

    5) Sawyer by far. Not only did Ash have a double battle which we don't see enough off, there was a contrast between using your brain and using your intuition in battle.

I voted Sawyer, despite flip flopping, mainly because Sawyer had a reason to enter the league, Alain didn't. Not salty about Ash losing because the writers would have made him lose to whoever they wanted - but Alain just wanted to battle Ash. He didn't need to enter a league (and didn't really care about any opponent until he faced Ash).

Sawyer's partner was Sceptile, which was my favorite Pokemon ever. I know that doesn't have to do with anything, but I feel like we could see Sawyer grow a lot throughout the season. Alain started off strong... ended strong... there was no doubt in our minds that he would be Ash's final match. Though we knew Sawyer wouldn't get to the top with Ash and Alain around, this is only because of plot armor, really; that's how I see it.

We saw his whole journey, though I wish he would have won more than he did. I hope he comes back buuut I know it's not going to happen. I want to see more of him.

    1. Alain definitely won character development between the two. I loved his role in the Mega Specials and how much emotion he showed when Marrin was hurt and when he got angry at her and made her storm off and Charizard looked at him. He had an amazing character in the whole this, even we he met Ash.

    2. Alain. He showed emotion when it was needed. He was protecting his friend and he teamed up with Steven. Sawyer, I just didn't like. I didn't like his voice actor. I didn't like his art and I didn't like how he was following in Ash's footsteps in the trailer, but literally had nothing in common and he cried before he even lost his battle against Ash. I would have preferred Max to have returned. I think that is what they were going for, but it fell completely flat. Who knows, Sawyer may have originally supposed to have been Max.

    3. Alain's. He had a pokemon from every region other than Kalos, but Mega Charizard kinda pushed that. He also had more pokemon from Unova, which I loved. His team was just amazing. I loved that he had all of those pokemon and that he got the Beldum that everyone got in the games. Although Sawyer has Sceptile, my favorite Hoenn Pokemon, the rest of his team was just meh. And it only contains Kalos and Hoenn Pokemon. Having one pokemon of each region with Alain won it for me.

    4. I definitely want Alain to come back and rebattle Ash in the future. I wish there had been a rematch between them after the Flare Arc, but doesn't seem like that will happen. I don't really care about Sawyer. I originally liked him, but I'd rather Tierno come back before him.

    5. Again, Alain. Even though Ash lost to him every single time. They were on equal playing field. I hated the fact that Sawyer started crying before he had even lost his battle. He thought he was superior to Ash in every way, even though he lost every single time against Ash, but once and that was because Ash fainted and couldn't control Ash-Greninja. Sawyer also ruined Serena's chance at getting a Hoenn Starter which would have followed the trend of the game female getting a same starter as Ash.
