    Pokemon Weathered Ruby v2.0

It's been about three years since originally publishing this patch, and after returning to it for a bit, I decided to follow through and thoroughly clean up the hack. I've added information to the comprehensive game document (including adding an encounter location list), so make sure to give it a look.

To close the books on this project:

Weathered Ruby is an enhancement of the base Ruby experience that seeks to add a rewarding amount of difficulty without compromising replay value. I've intended to create a game with diverse encounters from the first three generations, with Gym leaders as the focus, who I wished to hold a similar difficulty to a souls boss—something difficult that relies more on in-game knowledge than anything else. With nearly 80 Pokemon evolutionary lines featuring revamped learnsets and base stats, there is plenty to learn. However, the tweaks are sensible and should blend in very well with what role you'd expect from the Pokemon! Gone is the narrow linear paths of the original Ruby, with the game now pushing you to explore itself out of necessity. It is still Ruby at it's very core.
There are aesthetic/dialouge tweaks. Mostly to help the Magma plot make any sense at all (lol), and to make the rival more confident with their new teams.

Hundreds of hours put into these tweaks. I suggest looking at the documents to see the tweaks to learnsets and base stats, however, it may be more rewarding for a casual first playthrough to encounter the Gym leaders without prior knowledge. Just make sure you stock up on items before you lose all your souls money!

Depending on any rules you impose on yourself and how you play with gained in-game knowledge, the game is truly only as difficult as you want it to be. It is not a Kaizo-esque experience. R/S was my first generation as a late 90's kid. All I wanted to create was the game I wished those games to be as an adult, rather than the painfully easy shell of nostalgia that they became with time. I will be playing this hack whenever I feel the need for that itch. It's gotta be that feeling fuels the love of retro Pokemon more than anything else.

IMPORTANT: In the 3 years since publishing, the only issues I have been told with the patch have always been solved by ensuring you are patching a clean VERSION 1.0 Pokemon Ruby ROM. Again, installation will only work with a clean Pokemon Ruby
*1.0* ROM file! 1.1 and 1.2 WILL NOT work!

HOTFIX: There are now two patches available. Try installing both on separate ROM files if you are having trouble. A common 1.0 ROM base from a large/reputable source was not fully plug and play. If your starter is not level 7, the patch was not fully compatible. This is confirmed fixed with the new patch after a few hours of testing at x5 speed. Thanks for being understanding and please re-patch your files if you are having trouble!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pokemon Weathered Ruby is an enhancement hack of the original Ruby release featuring entirely revamped trainers along with rebalanced stats/learnsets for many of the original 386 Pokemon. The hack can be played through casually, but it has also been curated for a rather difficult, yet streamlined, Nuzlocke experience. Attached below along with the Lunar IPS Patch is an in-depth 33 page document (along with a 40 page document containing original dev notes) explaining all the changes made to this hack, and it serves predominantly as a guide to all the changes made to Pokemon and key trainers throughout the hack. Make sure you also read the "Sample List of Changes" tab below (if you'd like).

I hope this hack can serve as both an excellent introduction for new players looking to try a difficult romhack, and as a challenging experience for more experienced players and/or nuzlockers. This hack was made over the past 10 months, and looking to find the perfect balance of difficulty was the main goal of the project. I think the fact that this hack is as well based on the shorter (relative to the other games in Gen III) Ruby vanilla game allows it to provide a very short and sweet experience, and it served as a good first foray for me into the romhacking scene. For those who would be interested in an expansion of this romhack's core foundation (same stat changes, etc.), I am working already here and there on a direct sequel: Pokemon Weathered Red, based on the FireRed rombase. It is already about 40% complete, and should release sometime in early Q2 2022.

Ok Im going to try it after inclement emerald, may be next week. Thank you. Can you upload mediafire version in gbahaks? Please.

I'd like to run the game in my boy gba in my android, but I dont konw if this is the correct format.

I donwload the file from gbahacks but it does not have the changes from last release.

Hi, are you patching on a 1.0 Ruby release? That is most likely your problem. I did not share any files of this game outside of this posting (although I am indifferent to it). If you are having trouble patching I'm sure there are some resources on here to help.

Ty but Im not sure... I tried by many ways... dowloading ruby rom and the patch, patching with an app the ruby rom with the patch but even though starters are lvl.5... may be later I find a patched rom. Btw I read the docs, nice work.

I think Illumise is kinda useful if you use Encore correctly. As for the other two, I didn't bother with a couple bottom tier Pokemon for this romhack I didn't really think the changes I tried on them were good, so for better or worst I left them alone. I think in retrospect the only Pokemon I forgot that I wanted to change was Dunsparce lol. Don't plan on changing anything for this atm, working on something else... In the new hack I'm working on I actually do have some changes on Luvdisc though, along with a myriad of others left unchanged or underwhelming in this hack. I have to get around to posting it in the Progressing section eventually for early feedback.

Also, that second FireRed romhack direct sequel to this is dead in the water atm I was able to get to Koga - Blaine. may post a patch if I can find the most recent file from those sessions. it's been since like, early 2022 since I've edited the file.

I put a lot of work into that games overworld though so I may power through and try to finish it in the midnight hours. Time will tell.

Version 2.0 has been posted after I finally found some time to invest to finishing up the final touches! All changes listed above!

Bump: Had to hotfix the patch. One person reached out saying the patch was only slightly compatible with the file they got from a very reputable and common source. This is despite both files being seemingly identical v1.0 Ruby AXV files when opened in the editor. However, this was thankfully an easy fix and has been playtested through Mossdeep city at x5 speed with a LVL 100 Gengar (lol). It works. I apologize if anyone had any issues patching, please ensure you've got the correct update. This is weird because the original patch was confirmed to work as Weathered Ruby 1.0 was distributed online and I have never shared anything myself other than the IPS files.

Edit: For reference, you should see a Sableye in the Birch cutscene and receive a level 7 starter!
