pokemon vs dragonball

    hello,

    just want to know what you think, are there similarities in the two?

    what about characters, are some of them alike?
     
    Pokemon is very different from Dragonball. Comparing the two of them is like comparing Chemistry to a rock. The only similarity is that both of them has anime. And super powers. But besides that, the two is very different.
     
    What Zeffy said, you can't really compare Pokemon and Dragon Ball because of the massive amounts of differences.
     
    Aside from fighting and super powers nothing. This isn't even like comparing Apples to Oranges. More like an Apple to a Bar of Soap or something totally unrelated.
     
    YEA, Dragon Balls is way better, duh. it has bald guys and short guys and other things 2
     
    Bald guys and short guys? What about bald short guys? It's got at least two of those...

    The dragon ball series was the stereotype of animes for the longest time: If the protagonist couldn't beat his enemy, all he had to do was say "I was holding back my power. You only saw me at 50%." followed by 10 minutes of grunting and posing and bulging muscles. The battle would sway dramatically in favor of the protagonist until the antagonist made the same claim about holding back and followed a similar formula.

    Since the 80's, anime's have moved away from that kind of writing. Pokemon doesn't follow those same boring stereotypical plots. There really is no comparison...although I do believe Ash's squirtle was based loosely on Krillin.
     
    I assume he is alluding to Nappa, Piccolo, Tien, Krillen, Roshi, and Chiaotzu(unless you count the single hair on his head). Or he just got done watching Bald this Way so he is pretty psyched about that.

    I don't think Goku admits outside of facing Fat Buu that he was holding back power. When he fought Vegeta(first time) he was going at it fully power, when he fought Cell he admitted beforehand Cell was stronger, and then when he handed it to Gohan he though Goku wasn't giving it his all(which I guess that could be debatable but he said he was). Seems more like Frieza if anyone that does that. Sounds more like something Younger Toguro from Yu Yu Hakusho would do. And yes I agree the powering up is kind of ridiculous. And the battles sway to build dramatic effective and prolong the battle. Which I guess that wanted to have more episodes for whatever reason(which they went away from when they made Kai).

    That being said are we talking about the anime vs. anime or the franchises as a whole? Because like with the whole franchises the animes are completely different genres geared toward completely different audiences. A more feasible comparison would be with Digimon or Yu-Gi-Oh.
