I want to make a psychic/metal deck surrounding priamirly on the metagross psychic and steel versions and compete this year with that deck.

i want my 2 heavy hitters in this deck to be psychic metagross from unlimited and metal metagross from undaunted.

now the tournament rules state that you cant have more than 4 copies of the same card in your deck (save energies) of the same name according to the english translation.

eventhough both the unlimited and undaunted versions of metagross are clearly labled 'metagross' they are in fact two entirely different cards (i.e pokemon type, attacks, and the fact that they are from different sets.) These questions also arise for the metagross stage 1 and basic pokemon (i.e. beldum and metang from both the unlimited and undaunted sets)

ohh and also im planning to run both the psychic and metal sets at 4-2-2. so really my main concern for this are the beldums. am i allowed to have 8 beldums in my deck, being 2 sets of 4. thats 4 psychic unlimited beldum and 4 metal undaunted beldum.

I've already shelled out the money to create this deck for tournament use. is it officially legal?

any help would be great thanks!!!!

You cannot have more than 4 total cards of the same name. Type and set do not matter. You can only have combinations of each type that add up to 4 total. And what do you mean by "Unlimited"? 'Cause you cannot use any cards at official tournaments if they fall under the unlimited format, which is now all cards in all sets printed before Majestic Dawn, unless a card was reprinted that is currently legal in Modified. Do you perchance mean they're from the "Unleashed" expansion set?

oh geeze my bad i did mean unleashed. thanks! shoot i was really counting on that loop hole lol. thanks for the information :)

one last question on this topic from me, do you think its over kill to run my metagross line 4-4-4?

Yes, you don't need 4-4-4 of anything, in any deck, period. You should have four basic, two stage 1, and three stage 2 (4-2-3). Augment the line with things like rare candy, luxury ball, bebe's search, and pokemon communication; these things can be used to help your line that can also be used with other things if needed. For example, running an extra stage 2 can only provide you with that stage 2; running a bebe's search instead can provide you with that stage 2 OR any other card you may need at the time.

^^Explain Speedrill and Vileplume-teched decks or decks that were built in the time of rocklock. Basically, everything from Majestic Dawn, Legends Awakened, Stormfront, and any Platinum or HGSS set is legal. Oh, and Rumble ^.^

I don't know what rocklock is, and I personally never played a beedrill deck but I suppose decks that specifically require four of a kind on the bench to work would be an exception to that; but that's clearly not the case for metagross. I'm not sure why a vileplume deck would require 4-4-4.

No Metagross needs 4-4-4. The included 2-2-1 works perfectly in the Nightfall deck. But for my custom decks, if I use 3 stages(which I usually do) I do 3-2-1 or 4-3-2. I just don't have more evolutions than basics. I don't know.

Modified's too fast of a format to run lines that way anymore... unless you're short on Rare Candy and Pokemon-fetching cards like Bebe's Search, Pokemon Communication, or Pokemon Collector.
